While they loitered and waited for Vixeni, Aprife took the opportunity to poke around here, there, wherever as long as he was within eyesight. It wouldn't look good to stray, though he wondered if Trusci would care all that much. Luxara wouldn't, or shouldn't—she knew what they were here for.
"Alright, Arie," he agreed, easily playing into the friend routine with a smile. He was always smiling, but details. After a short walk, there was another door, open and tantalizing.
"We should check it out. Might be something useful."

"Make way then!" No threat? No problem! Trusci marched headlong into the vacant room. Listen, she was a journalist, and that meant she had a nose for good scoops, and having a good nose meant she could find anything worthwhile. Case in point?
"Ohhh..." It... seemed like maybe it had some sort of film on it? Her eyes gleamed. "Check this out! I'm callin' finders keepers." It was mostly a joke; she wouldn't offer the spoils for inspection otherwise... probably.

Vulpin laughed through their teeth, moving over to whisper to the other young troll. "Darling," They addressed Trusci, "If you want to call finders keepers, don't tell anyone you found something." They flashed the yellowblood a smile, gold canines glinting. "It's the team's spoils now." They added, plucking the film out of her hands and stowing it away.
"I think we've bled this room dry," they said. "Let's keep moving before any daywalkers catch up."

Ardais stared after Vixeni for a moment, feeling a twinge of...something. Some sort of something. But she wasn't sure what. She filed it away for now. "Yeah," she piped up, trying not to project too much enthusiasm, "good job, team." Video footage, but not something they could swipe at this point. Oh well. They could probably find an excuse to break off for a moment eventually and get something good.
"Let's keep up the good work, yeah? Maybe I'll find us another good hallway. Though, when you're ready to punch in some rotty skulls, no such thing as a bad one, right? This way." She casually gestured towards the next atrium.
"Anyone spots anything, give a good holler."

Like Luxara, Aprife was all eyes on the film, watching where Vixeni inevitably stowed it on their person. If Trusci didn't go after it again, he knew whereabout it was, at least. What it was and whether or not it was actually important could be dealt with later. When you were desperate for supplies and intel, everything was on the list of things to snag.
Besides, he wasn't quite sure how much he believed in Vixeni's for the team attitude. He didn't trust trolls. He should know, he was one.
"Let's check this room out," he said, gesturing through a half-open door that looked pretty damn non-functional.

Squeezing through the half-open door found the rest of the room about as well put together as one might expect. Whatever had broken the entrance, whether it was time and decay or something else entirely, had done a number on the place. It was falling apart.
Digging through the drawer of a nearby desk, he managed to find something that might be of use.
"Not bad, I guess," he said, holding up his find for all to see as he came back out through the door.

"Hey," a solid yet controlled pat on Aprife's shoulder. "Guess you're our lucky room charm or something. Keep it up, boss." Might have to coordinate so she'd get a shot at checking a room out eventually. Not that it really mattered, but two people getting stuff...now Luxara kind of wanted to, too.
But she wasn't going to dwell. More important stuff going on! "If that's all there was, let's move out." Vixeni was some defacto leader, but that didn't mean they had to say the obvious, right? And she did keep getting to take point anyway, so.
"This way down here looks new. See what it's got, hop out if any daywalkers, yeah?"

Making her way down, she soon caught sight of something. "Oh hey! Bombs's luck rubbed off on me." Ardais slipped over to the closed door. But she didn't touch it. "Now, if it's closed, it's probably for a reason, and we don't have a key, so..." She pawed around and found a panel nearby. "Ah-ha. Yeah, it's totally bugged. Hold on."
Not bothering to explain how in the hell she could disable a door despite being an upstanding citizen, and with such ease at that, she took care of the alarm. "Cool. Still locked. But at last it won't flip out on us. Uhhh, let's see what else we can do, here."

Nothing else was going to open it, far as she could tell, so she prepared her shoulder and took a couple of steps back. Luxara could take a hit, and maybe enough force on this thing could...
She rammed into it, though it wasn't the most marvelous experience to hit a door that continued to stand like a brick wall. "s**t!" That would definitely leave a bruise. But nothing stirred in the meantime. Had that going for her, anyway.
Ardais stepped away again and looked at Aprife. "Hey retiree, you think you can take down one last door before you claim your pension?"

knocking down the door, -5hp
"You alright?" The trademark smile slipped into something more like a grimace as Aprife rubbed his shoulder despite doing nothing but watching Luxara ram the door. In fact, he added a sigh for good measure.
"You're asking a lot," he told her, looking between their teammates at the same time. The size difference between himself and everyone else was pretty stark, though. "But alright. It'll give me a chance to relive my youth."
Careful of his horns, Aprife gave the door a good jolt with his shoulder. It groaned before popping open with a shrill, metallic squeal.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here. The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a Decomposing Bellicose Zombie Gerbil Pack!
Dice 1 1. ... Enraged... (-1 to all attacks) 2. ... Jawless... (+1 on accuracy rolls) 3. ... Putrid... (-1 on all accuracy rolls) 4. ... Decomposing ... (+1 on all attacks)
Dice 2 1. ... Skeletal... (-5 miniboss HP) 2. ... Bellicose... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn) 3. ... Armoured... MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 30/30 If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg. If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg. If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg. If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg. If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg. If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room, you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached. Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!
If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:
If this is your first or second mini-boss fight look below:
If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp. If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp. If this is your third mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:
1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.* 2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit. 3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit. 4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.* If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team. Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Yikes. What were gerbils doing up here? And they looked awful. They smelled awful. Vulpin wanted to deal with this as fast as possible. Withdrawing their knives, they took a couple steps closer into the pack, slicing through with ease.
"Weak little things." They commented, taking another swing. They crumbled under their blade, falling to rot. Vulpin took a step away from the carnage to breath. Yuck.
Hollllly s**t. Luxara couldn't help but laugh as she was swarmed. Absolutely ridiculous. "Zombie space gerbils? Seriously?" So this is what happens when they died of natural causes. Note to self: make sure her gerbils were properly eaten so they wouldn't just become this kind of ludicrous mess. Luxara let a few get away with some nibbles, but kicked them off.
Okay. Time to get serious. She reloaded, stepped to the side, lined up her shot. "This is gonna be a breeze."

She circled around, turning her tracker on. Everything up here came in masses, but, hollow enough heads. Line them up properly, one bolt could down a bunch in a row. Luxara waited for that moment again...and fired. One, two. Afterwards, she exhaled and kicked some of the tiny, limp bodies to the side.
"Nasty stuff, huh?"

"Lovely! Beautiful!" Vulpin clapped slowly for the greenblood. That really was some wonderful handiwork. "I'm taking notes for whatever abominations we face next, ahaha!" They let out a strange laugh, and turned to the rest of the crew on their heels.
"Great work, everyone! Let's keep that attention up going forward. If this fight is any indication, I don't think we'll have any trouble making it through this ship!" They pressed their hands together and tilted their shoulder in a coy expression.
