1 - The ceiling beyond this door will drop down on the first troll who enters, dealing 1d6 damage!
Sarcel held, her muscles tense.
"What is it?" She leaned forward to inspect the door, her brow furrowing. It seemed... fine. Ordinary. Normal? Perhaps her recruits were getting cold feet? She didn't know Buffel well enough to make that call. Nahori maybe. Probably. "I'll go in first. Be ready."
Holding her breath, she opened the door. Despite the reservations Buffel had put in the back of her mind, she entered it fearlessly, except....

"s**t!" The ceiling came down on her in a flurry of debris, teach her to doubt her subordinates again. She was already backed out of the room, but not without the cost of a now sore ankle. "I'm sorry for doubting you." She spoke quickly, hushed, but genuinely humbled.
There wouldn't be much time to recover though. Something was moving already...

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a Skeletal Disemboweled Zombie Gerbil Pack!
Dice 1
1. ... Shambling... (+1 on accuracy rolls) 2. ... Grotesque... (-1 to all attacks) 3. ... Rotting... (+1 to all attacks) 4. ... Skeletal... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)
Dice 2
1. ... Armoured... (only 3 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item) 2. ... Oozing... (-1 to weapon attacks that deal less than 6 damage) 3. ... Disemboweled... (-5 miniboss HP) 4. ... Swift... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)
If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!
If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:
If this is your first mini-boss fight look below:
If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:
You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.
If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:
You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.
If this is your second mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:
1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*
2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*
If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!
It wasn't just something moving, but a lot of somethings. They stopped Nahori dead in her tracks, her worried are you okay catching in her throat. Sarcel didn't seem terribly injured, but the fact they had to fight more monsters right now only added insult to injury.
"Gerbils..." she muttered. Or what was left of them. Her bloodpusher twinged for the poor, rotted things. She did love animals.
It felt bad to attack them, but they were scuttling towards the group with obvious ill intent. How bad would it look if she refused to do anything? To protect their Lieutenant and to protect her teammate, too, Nahori had to do something... She took a swing, cringing at the way her weapon cut through their bone.

The undead varmints scuttled forward, a deep, unyielding hunger in their eyes. Buffel moved to the side of the group, hoping to get a clear shot. He fired wild into the horde, but picking off one at a time did little to slow them down. As they advanced further, they began to reach the gunslinger's feet. Frustrated, he began scooping them with his prosthetic, tossing them back with all his might. one latched onto his pointer finger with it's teeth, gnawing absently on the muzzle of his finger-gun. Buffel smirked.
"Look alive!" Which wasn't hard, because they were a lot more alive than the skeletal creatures coming at them. Were those gerbils? Those were totally gerbils. Why did they have gerbils up here in space, of all places.
Whatever, ask questions later, not now.
Thankfully in the age old question of 'what was more effective, shotguns or gerbils', the answer was undoubtedly shotguns, and between Nahori slicing through their age-old remains, Buffel's good aim and her own tenacity, the threat was as good as gone.
"Good job!" Her heart swelled proudly, "Caviap, you handled your blade nicely. Obille, nice marksmanship. Is everyone alright? I'd like to press on if no one's hurt." The group looked fine though, at least to her eyes.

4 - You advance through the ship ...
"I'm... okay," she said, her breathing slowing again, "Ready to keep going... And... thank you, sir..." Both Sarcel and Buffel had appeared relatively calm, at least on the outside where Nahori could see. She envied them for that. She shouldn't, there wasn't time for envy, but she did.
"This way... maybe?"

Nahori restores +1 HP to herself using discipline perk
As they walked, Nahori tried to gather her courage. Sarcel's praise echoed in her thinkpan and she used it as a means to lift herself up. It always did mean a lot when others took the time to acknowledge how hard she tried.

Buffel appreciated the compliment, but nice marksmanship it was not. Not by his standards. Still, knowing it would be rude to ignore, he replied, ”Much obliged Lieutenant. Hopefully my shots only get tighter from here.”
He also wanted to keep hull breaching to a minimum. It was already compromised but adding one more hole to the mix was reckless without reason. He papped Nahori lightly on the shoulder.
”You were somethin' else against those varmints yerself! ” He hoped his words would put her at ease, but he could understand nerves in this scenario completely. Following her directions, he stopped suddenly as he heard a familiar shambling in the darkness ahead...
"There's only three!" At least, from what she could discern. "Caviap, Obille, try to take on one each! Don't be afraid to fall back if you need support!" She slammed two bullets into the chamber of her shotgun. "Make every swing count! They aren't as fast as we are, use that to your advantage!"

all daywalkers dead! still take 1 dmg for the round
There was a slight tense when Buffel's hand met her shoulder, if only briefly, but once she realized it was a friendly pat, she visibly settled. If there was one thing Nahori appreciated it, it was physical comfort—hugs, arm pats, head pats, whatever, she'd take it. She actually managed to give him a smile.
Of course, they were still on a busted up ship in the middle of space and the undead weren't about to let her have her moment undisturbed.
"Yes, sir..!" she said, louder than usual. Despite being nervous, she went for the closest daywalker, managing to knock it over into the others. They all went toppling like dominoes and didn't get back up.

The screen flickers with a message...

”See, that's what I mean! Three in one, yer our MVP with that thing in yer mitts!”
Buffel gave another gentle pap to the shoulder as he stepped over them, the hefty space boot weighing down on their zombie chests. The corridor seemed vacant, and the gunslinger took the time to read the log he'd grabbed earlier. Seems it was right at the moment when allegiance to Regina had been declared. The yellowblood wasn't a history buff by any means, but seeing such a significant moment in time, encapsulated in one message, was somethin' else. He wished it was a more positive moment.
Sarcel seemed to be blinking rapidly. "Well. Yes then. Good job Caviap, you seem to have detained the threat all on your own." Buffel had stepped on the bodies for good measure, and Sarcel did the same.
"There seems to be an open corridor up ahead. I'll take a look inside first, alright you two?"
She stepped inside, fists curled and posture ready for a fight.
