He listened in silence, not wanting to interrupt, though a large part of Nash actually did want to interrupt and say something that was probably horrendously offensive about Lawrence ******** using Melvin's dead girlfriend to manipulate him.
It was probably pointless now. It was a long time ago, and Nash was not a sentimental creature by nature in any sense of the word unless it involved someone nameless. But he liked Melvin, and he liked hanging with him, and he loathed Lawrence, which made the indignation very real, in spite of his stubborn refusal of all things sentimental.
Nash let out a sigh. <******** insane. I would say I can't believe it, except it's too shitty and ******** up to be anything but real."
Another breeze drifted past. Nash folded his arms across his chest, frowning at the headstone, but out of thought more than anything else. "But it still sucks. I'm sorry, man."

"It's....been a year since we broke up. I just, though you should know from me instead of Twitter or some half-lies from Lawrence. Seems sooner or later stuff just bubbles up to social media, and I - just really don't like that part of the story being dragged up. I don' like how I was back then, the choices I made, and how I handled everything."
He rose up, noticing Nash covering his chest and took off his coat to set it over his shoulders. "I haven't gone with anyone else here. Thank you."
Gesturing for them to head out, he moved his arm back around Nash. "Sorry you got involved with such a ******** up person." He joked, though there was a hint of seriousness in it.

Nash had to grudgingly admit that it was better to hear it from Melvin, rather than Twitter. There was never any intention to get into s**t with Lawrence over such a stupid social media website, of all things, but, well, it happened, because Nash was stubborn and Lawrence was a pain in the a**.
The coat around his shoulders was surprising, Nash giving Melvin a quick glance, but he didn't fight it, nor did he fight the arm around his waist. Instead he gave a snort, maybe of amusement, but maybe of something else.
"I'm pretty sure that on the scale of <******** up-ness, we're all on there somewhere," he muttered. "Maybe you didn't handle it great back then, I dunno, but...it is what it is now. You guys aren't together anymore, and you're moving on, so I'd say you're not doing too badly."

"Thanks to you. You've been putting up with a lot of unnecessary bullshit lately. I really appreciate it. I just....kinda wish I could take you away from it sometime." He said, adjusting his glasses a moment before looking over at Nash.
"If...you want to go out sometime on leave."

Nash raised his eyebrows. There was an instinctive unpleasant feeling twisting in his gut; a reaction to the concept of sentiment, of affection, of the lingering uncertainty of whether or not Melvin was just being friendly, or if he was actually asking him on an actual date.
He wasn't sure how he felt about the latter, so he went with the former out of sheer stubbornness, because he did enjoy being around Melvin, and well. It would be nice to get away from this place and away from Lawrence and the frustration and the bitter resentment of having everything twisted and blackened and decayed.
It felt a little weird to kiss in front of the grave of one's dead ex-girlfriend, but Nash did so anyway, leaning to press his cold mouth to Melvin's before drawing back again.
"Get away from here? Hell yes."

He wrapped bith arms about him, pulling him to squeeze him tightly and affectionately as he returned the kiss. "Great. I always wanted to take you out."
Reachibg for Nash's hand, he held it as he went to lead them back the way they came back towards the dorms.

There it was again - that not quite understanding of whether or not Melvin was asking him on a date or if he was just saying these things. Nash allowed his hand to be taken, his stomach tripping unpleasantly, silent as they made their way back down towards the dormitories.
Don't think about it.
After a few minutes, as they came towards the back door of the building, Nash said, "Thanks for telling me about all that s**t, by the way. You know - Rin and Lawrence and all that."

He released his hand once they approached the door.
"I thought it best you knew and for Lawr not to spin things around. Rumors and lies and miscommunication has done a number of fights for me in the past. If you are going to get pulled into the bullshit, might as wrll give you a bigger picture."
He paused. "Just....can you not bring up Lawr being Rin on Twitter or anyone. Lawr and Rodney know though. I don't want other people to know that. I know a lot of them see me as an idiot for having been with Lawr or even as a victim. It's not a good feeling and - I just don't want everyone to know how easily I was tricked or ask why I still stayed after I found out he was lying. I don't think they would get it and it gets exhausting explaining myself."
He attempted a smile. "But you can ask me whatever. You're not some stranger who doesn't care aside from burning someone for fun."

He had seen only too well the sort of s**t that people on Twitter got up to - himself included. Nash reached out and rested a hand on the door handle to the dormitory building, but didn't turn it to open, instead looking sideways at Melvin, lips pressed together.
He did appreciate being told, even if it wasn't what he had expected. Nash let out a breath.
"Right. I won't," he said, and then, "I won't put that s**t anywhere for anyone else to see, it's not their business."
Not that he hadn't ******** up that side of things on more than one occassion, but still. Nash gave a small snort and pushed open the door, stepping with his back against it to hold it open so Melvin could step inside first.
"Well. At least you got out of most of that s**t now, even if some of it is still floating around."

"Float around. Flying around. Tweeting around. It's something I can't erase and I'm working to fess up to the mistakes. Just trying to pull myself from that grave and get to looking at something or other to distract myself. The house. Atlantis is doing a pretty good job in giving me work." He didn't bother glancing at Babel as the fish flew into the hallway and ahead of them.
"Just don't want people doing the same thing they do with Lawr and stamping a big DOOMED CRIMINAL symbol on my forehead before I even meet anyone else on this island."

He did have a point. Melvin's past seemed to decide to want to rise up and smack him in the face every time something happened. Nash pushed the door shut behind Melvin and fell back into step beside him as they made their way down the main hall of the dormitories.
"People are shitbags," said Nash, which was perfectly true. "They see one thing and assume the worst. It's different when you're actually a doomed criminal, but you just had a relationship, that's different."
Not that he was the expert in these things, but whatever. Nash let out a breath, hands in his pockets. Babel bounced through the air, sleek and gold in front of them.
"For what it's worth, I think you're doing fine."

"Thanks. It means a lot from you." He paused as he looked up the steps. Melvin lived on the higher floors with an upgraded room. Nash lived below him.
What would happen once he had a house?
It's not like that. It will just be you. He'll have to walk all the way to towns.
A long walk. Even walking to the bar to the dorms was dangerous at night.
The feeling sobered him up pretty quickly.
"If you - knew what mess you were getting into. What with Lawr and Rodney... I mean - I guess what I'm saying is, do you regret it? That night up there - if it meant all this hassle?" He said, stopping on the steps to look at Nash.

Nash glanced up at the steps, then at Melvin, belatedly realizing that either he was going up with Melvin to his room, or he could just keep walking back to his own room on the current floor. Melvin was standing a step or two above him, which meant that he was taller, Nash's foot still propped on the first step.
Did he regret it?
The answer felt more complicated than it should have been, which annoyed him. He wouldn't have gotten tangled up in s**t if he knew Lawrence was around, but then again, Melvin was a decent guy and fun in bed, and that definitely counted for something, especially with all he'd been through.
"I wish that a*****e wasn't around," said Nash, not needing to clarify who he meant. "But....nah. I don't regret it. I don't believe in regrets, anyway."

He paused still, looking at Nash. "Must be nice." It was a nice way of thinking, but Melvin wasn't sure that way of living could be easily adopted. Too often he had too many regrets, and while he didn't want any, he couldn't avoid them.
"I don't regret going up to the roof." He said, smiling. "Want a hot bath in my room?" He offered, knowing how a nice bath could improve a long, shitty day.

His lips quirked, just a little.
"Sometimes," said Nash lightly. Sometimes he thought it might be better if he actually did believe in having regrets, but that was something he wasn't going to consider anytime soon. It was what it was; now he just had to learn to live with it all.
One of Nash's brows rose.
"Well, if you're offering, sure," he answered, sounding a touch amused. "I forgot you full hunters have your own bathrooms and s**t."
