He was just about to answer her when she suddenly attacked...or at least moved to attack. Rhys flinched anyway, and then blinked at the tap, feeling his shield heal up a fairly decent ********," he muttered, smirking as he got up and dusted himself off. "Thought you were gonna swing at my head that time, holy s**t."
Zephira was laughing, all hysterical fashion, of course, but he did his best to smile through his irritation at his weapon. "And I was gonna say I'll try. You've always wiped the floor with me whenever we spar, so I mean..." The brunette shrugged and took a few steps back, stretching out a little before standing, sword up with its runes aglow as he focused on Joy.
The familiar crackling sound curled his lips up into a satisfied little smirk; even Zephira finally settled when she sensed his focus, and he felt her smile for the first time in a long while. "Ready?" he called from where he stood. As soon as he asked, though, he dashed toward her, slashing in an upward, diagonal motion across the Moon's chest. As soon as his blade struck her shield he felt the static shock of a blowback carry up his arm, resonating through his entire body within seconds and depleting his shield once more.
The Mist came to a dizzying stop, eyes barely open as he processed the pain. FEAR shield or not, he most definitely felt that.

Joy braced herself for impact, grinning like a mad fool all the while. The strike hurt but it ought to have, given that it was a Charge attack. The moon trainee would not have been embarrassed to admit she saw stars and bright lights when Rhys struck. Or how she sailed backwards, landing flat on her back with a loud thud.
She forced herself to sit up, and breathing hard, she rose onto to visibly unsteady feet. "N-now that's what I'm talking about," Joy laughed, blood roaring in her ears, and her eyes wild and crazed. It felt good to be clinging to the very edges of her weapon's strength.
She heard the ginosaji's reedy voice encourage her to keep going, to feed him more FEAR no matter the cost. Wasn't that was he bonded with her for after all? She breathed in deep, and dashed at Rhys, coming out swinging.

Rhys watched her from where he stood, a little worried given that she looked extra wobbly...but when she came at him that worry lessened quite a bit. Even more so when he saw the look in her eyes; what he felt then, that was a different worry, and in fact was maybe a little more something he was curious about. If he could remember to maybe ask when they weren't in the middle of a spar.
"I tried," he said through a grin, doing what he could to counter her attack and lashing his blade out when he thought he saw an opening.

"And that's all we can ask, p're," the intermediate Moon grinned. Her counter was clear indication that her shield was on its last legs but she wasn't going to let that stop her from finishing this spar.

"Yeah," he managed, gritting his teeth as the blade of her shovel nicked his shoulder again. The counter left her wide open though, so he struck her with the flat of his blade this time--they were both just about done so he didn't see a real need to do a whole lot more. He didn't want to hurt her, anyway, wards up or not.
