A False Patient
"Your name is?" Tadeos asked as he looked at the patient that was walking into the clinic that he was working in today alongside his teacher, Forthus. The man said that he needed some more time working hand in hand with the patients, learning to take down notes on their conditions, which meant experiencing what being a doctor was really like. The up side being that Doctor Forthus was in the clinic today, he could help out if it was something urgent, and that allowed Tadeos to really get into the role he was training for.
The Lightning girl that walked in gazed up at him with bright purple eyes, seeming as though she was studying him closely, before she said in a sweet manner, "My name is Lissa." Once she'd introduced herself she lifted her hands up to cover a cough, one that sounded a bit rough if you asked Tadeos.
Motioning to her to sit down on one of the nearby chairs he set to work with the usual questions, wanting to get a feel for her current condition, "Alright, Lissa. How about you sit down here and tell me about that cough. How long have you had it? And is the only symptom you have?"
"Ahh... how long? Let's see... a couple of days now." She said, moving to sit down on the seat that was motioned to by the big man, settling in comfortably, before crossing her legs. As she was asked about other symptoms she seemed to think about it then said, "Ahh... my throat hurts I suppose? Umm... and I sneeze sometimes. I also can't really seem to... umm... sleep?"
Tadeos had started to write down what she was saying when he gave a little pause, glancing her way. Was it just him or did she seemed to be thinking on things a lot? As though she wasn't really certain about her own symptoms. No, no, that wouldn't make any sense. Why would she come in to get looked after if she didn't actually have those symptoms? Giving a nod he said, "A few days then? All of those symptoms have been for a couple of days now? Have they gotten worse over time would you say?"
She cocked her head to one side, seeming to think about it again, then after a moment nodded, "Yes! A couple of days. All of it. Umm... maybe the cough and stuff is what is making me not sleep? I think? Well... I guess that's your job to figure out?" She gave him a smile, then shifted so that her hands were clasped in her lap as she watched him, studying him again.
She seemed to be doing that a lot, huh? Starring at him like that. Lifting a hand up he rubbed it against his chin before he asked, "Do I have something on my face?" He wasn't so lucky to grown a beard yet so he had to assume something was on his face, why else would she be starring at him like that? Was it because he was so young? Did she not trust him to accurately take down the notes about her symptoms? He hoped that it wasn't that. He'd much prefer that he somehow had something stuck to his face instead. It was better then someone not having confidence in him when it came to so simple a task as taking notes.
The girl gave a shake of her head and said, "No, no! It's nothing like that. I was just thinking that you're pretty handsome for a doctor's assistant. She said that you were." The moment the words were out of the girl's mouth she instantly lifted her hands up to cover her mouth, eyes wide, before she said, "Ahh... I mean... that is... ahhh..." She seemed to be at a loss for how to cover for what she'd said so Lissa went quiet instead, cheeks colored.
Tadeos starred at the girl that was sitting there in front of him for a long, drawn out moment, before he he sighed. Closing the book he was taking down notes in he said, "Alright, so either you can admit the truth, that my sister Tyr sent you here to bother me... or I can find you the most bitter medicine possible for that cold of yours."
Giving a squeak the girl jumped up to her feet, waving her hands rapidly in front of her, before she said, "Sorry, sorry! She said that she had a handsome doctor in training as a brother and that you were looking for a girlfriend! I didn't mean to bother you at work." It had just been the best way to catch him according to her source.
"I'm not looking for a girlfriend. Thank you for stopping by. I you actually get sick please return to us for treatment." Tadeos said between clenched teeth, trying to remain cool, calm, and collected as a doctor should, even an aggravated one such as himself. As a doctor he should be calm in any situation, even one in which his patient was faking it because they thought he was looking for a date. As though he'd pick someone from among his patients.
Lissa nodded, rushing over toward the door, and went back out the way she came. After a moment she peeked back in and said, "I have a twin brother if you'd be more interested in him?" Her answer was Tadeos merely pointing at the door, telling her which way he felt she should go. It was something that had her nodding rapidly before she vanished once more through the door. For good this time.
After a moment of waiting to make sure she wasn't coming back he gave a sigh, removing the page of notes that he'd taken. The page was crumpled up and tossed into a nearby trashcan before he set to cleaning up the clinic a bit. Best that he made sure everything was set up and ready just in case a real patient showed up. Once he got home he'd also have to talk to Tyr about sending random people to his job for blind date attempts... It was bad enough when she did that on their down time but worse when she sent them after him at work. It really was embarrassing he thought to himself, cheeks coloring ever so slightly as he worked.
He looked from side to side around the area, then sighed in relief. He was glad to see that Doctor Forthus hadn't seen what had happened. The man might have gotten upset thinking that Tadeos was using his clinic for hook ups. Just the thought of it was just too much for him to even want to consider. The man was being really kind, letting him work and learn here when his family wasn't even from this line of work. The guy could very well send him back to farm work if he thought that Tadeos was messing around after all. A thought that made his stomach flip flop inside of him. Not something he could risk so he'd have to beg Tyr to pick a better spot for her next attempt at finding him a bride he thought to himself as he turned to greet the next person that came through the door.
Here was to hoping this one was a legit patient he thought to himself as he set to work.

A Quiet Moment
Tadeos looked at the letter in his hand, reading it over, before looking at the packages on the table. It seemed as though their father had figured out that the last gifts that he'd sent had been sent on the wrong date. He was apologizing for being late, though technically they'd been closer to early then late, but Tadeos found that he didn't really care one way or the other. The man was at least trying, right? Of course he knew his sister would see it that way but she was far more aggressive in nature then Tadeos was these days. He'd been doing his best to try to walk the line even though it could be tough, especially when it came to some people that still wanted to take him on.
The problem being Tadeos's sheer size. He was a bigger guy despite just being a prentice and that made him a good target when it came to fighting. He'd only been too happy to take on all comers too until just recently when he'd decided to turn things around to become a doctor instead of a fighter. Tyr was still walking the same line though, wanting to be a fighter, and while he worried about her he knew she had the skills for it. He could balance out her fighting nature by taking care of any wounds she got with the skills that he was learning from Doctor Forthus. At least he could help her out in that way since he couldn't stand at her side in a fight anymore.
That was probably the one thing that he would miss about the random fights that he used to get in, the fact that he was fighting side by side with Tyr. It was yet another thing that the two of them had shared. It was alright, he was just changing the manner in which he helped her with her fights was all. Here was to hoping that he could keep her in one piece... and in this instance keep their father in one piece. He'd rather they actually find some sort of peace in their family. At least until their parents found out that the two of them weren't planning on following in their of their footsteps despite it being tradition for them to do so in Belrea.
Following separate paths, their own paths, was a strange thing to do but he really felt as though he'd found his calling. He could only assume that his sister felt the same with her own path. Telling them was something that he was still putting off though, at least until he was able to figure out exactly how he wanted to go about letting them know. He felt that waiting until he actually made progress with his training might be the best way to go about things. He didn't want them to think that what he was doing was just on a whim. If he actually proved himself he felt that it would be easier convincing his mother to let him continue onward on the path to becoming a doctor. That was his plan at least. Here was to hoping it actually worked out.
Walking over into the house he set the two gifts on the table, giving them a long look, before he tucked the letter away. He would keep the letter and hand off the new present to Tyr later. He wondered what her gift might be but he supposed so long as it wasn't another stuffed animal that she might like it better? The box seemed smaller so it might be. As for his own present, well he'd figure it out later. He'd open the present up alongside his sister, same as they always did when the presents from their father appeared at random intervals. He didn't know what was inside but he was sure that it would keep for a while longer, until Tyr got back from whatever it was she was spending her day on. He hoped that it was training with her teacher as opposed to another all out brawl, but one never knew with her. No matter what she was doing he loved her, he'd just rather she focus on her training if at all possible.
"I should get to work on getting dinner going." He preferred to do the cooking, especially if he could and leave the clean up to Tyr. With that he headed for the kitchen to get to work while he waited for his sister to get home.

Growth Solo: Caught Med Handed!
(( Tadeos is on his own at the clinic while the doctor is away checking on a patient. His stitching practice is interrupted as another patient arrives, one of the last one that he was expecting. A chat with the patient helps to cement his desire going forward even if it's not the path that he should take according to tradition. It also gives him a bit more in the way of initiative to tell his mother about his plans sooner then later. ))
Tadeos was sitting in the office of Doctor Forthus, currently working on practicing his stitches on a piece of leather that he'd bought recently at the marketplace. It was something that he wanted to perfect because stitches were something that stayed in place for a while meaning that a person had to look at the for a while. He didn't want to leave behind stitches that were messy when a person was stuck with them for a while. Once he'd done a few rows of them he paused, looking them over, and ran a finger along them. They looked good, neat even, though it kind of made him wonder if they might be too pretty for some of those that he worked with. Especially the farmers that tended to be the most numerous of the patients that they had here. Still, it was better to have them be too pretty then too messy, right? That was what he felt at least but he could always ask Doctor Forthus when he got back.
The man had to go out to check on a patient who wasn't able to get in easily these days. Nothing bad that needed to be worried about but instead it was due to her being so heavily pregnant. She was in her final month and given she was carrying twins she was just too big to get around. The doctor had even mentioned that there was a chance that they would be going to her house to help her deliver because it would be easier on her. It was actually something that terrified him on many levels. He had met with her on a few occasions, had fun talking with her even during her mood swings, but the idea of helping her give birth was scary. Still, knowing he wouldn't be alone was a helpful thing. He was pretty sure that he'd have a heart attack if he had to take care of a woman in labor on his own.
There was a ding from a bell above the clinic door that drew his attention and he pushed up to his feet, "Good afternoon! How can I help... you..." He trailed off, starring at the one that was standing there in the doorway. He blinked slowly before he swallowed hard, "Ahh... hello there, father..." Geez, this was rather awkward, wasn't it?
Grithis starred at his son, a bit confused as to why his son was greeting him in the doctor's office. He opened his mouth, about to ask, before he shook his head, "Ahh, we can talk about this later. Right now I am needing a bit of help, Tadeos. Is the doctor in?" He asked, lifting up his hand that he was clutching with the other one, motioning to his fingers which were looking a bit off, as well as swollen and the wrong the colors.
Seeing the man's messed up hand was enough to get Tadeos moving, hurrying along to gather up various supplies, "Come with me, sit here, and try to relax and breath." The most important thing was keeping a patient calm, though his father really wasn't the sort to get too worked up, was he? He didn't think that he'd ever seen the man in that sort of mood. Of course there was a lot that he didn't see from the man since he was so rarely around. Regardless of his feelings about that sort of thing though he wouldn't let it throw him off his game. Injuries like the one that his father had, they were simple ones, the sort that he actually had training for, so he could deal with them.
After he got the supplies he needed he came to sit down across from his father, reaching out to take the man's hand in his own in a careful manner, looking it over, before he said, "It doesn't seem as though you need stitches, that's good... though I am good at them. Now you do have some broken fingers and I am going to need to set those. It's going to hurt but it has to be done." He warned him this before he set to work doing just that, putting the fingers back into place, earning a grunt with each one from Grithis. It was something that made him wince just a bit each time as well, not really enjoying the man's pain in the same way his more grumpy sister might.
Once it was done he then saw about putting splints in place for each finger then wrapped them all together so they wouldn't be able to move, "They will need to stay like that for a while. Don't do anything strenuous." Odd to give him that advice when he really didn't know what it was that his father did for a living. He was a part of the Academy, he knew that much, but so was their mother, it was how the two had met after all. As far as straining his fingers went, well he wasn't sure if it was a possibility. As such it was probably just a good idea if he gave him the warning, he'd manage to hurt himself so maybe he had a chance or hurting himself all over again?
The man gave a slow nod, having been quiet through out the treatment save for the grunts given as his fingers were reset. After a time the man finally asked, "Tadeos... what exactly are you doing here? Why are you not training alongside your mother? And where is Tyrithian at the moment? Is she also playing around somewhere?"
Tadeos set about cleaning up everything that he'd used to wrap his father's fingers before he said, "I am not playing around, neither is Tyr. We are both very serious about what it is that we are doing with our time, father." He wanted to comment on it being something that he would well know about if he was ever around... but decided against it. It wasn't as though they had told their mother yet either and she was around a bit more often then their father was after all.
Getting to his feet he said, "I am working on becoming a doctor under the guidance of Doctor Forthus, the man you came here seeking aid from." He said as he walked around, putting things away that he no longer needed. Turning to look at his father he said, "As that is the case you will need to pay the usual medical fee."
The man's eyes narrowed slightly before he got to his feet, getting out his coin purse from his pocket, fetching the among that was quoted to him, offering it to Tadeos, "That doesn't explain why you're here and not with your mother. One is supposed to follow in the footsteps of their parents, they are supposed to do as their parents do, and are supposed to stick to the same sect that their family serves. It's tradition."
Tadeos took the payment, walking over the Doctor's desk, putting the coin into the top drawer, "Tradition isn't terribly important when one raises him or herself, father. Tyr and I don't even know what you do and mother is gone far more often then she is home, it's only natural that we will end up walking our own paths." Not to mention that it was only natural that they ended up with different role models given the situation that they lived in. Not that he'd mention that, not wanting his father to hassle either Doctor Fortus or Duarte, knowing that they were both good men but busy men. The Doctor had patients to take care of while Duarte had his guard duties to see to. As such he didn't want his father interfering.
The man seemed to bristle just a little, seemingly a bit upset over the idea that neither of his children seemed to be following the path of either of their parents. Though could he say anything when it seemed they didn't even know what he did for a living? Crossing his arms over his chest he asked, "Is that so? What does your mother think of what the two of you are up to?"
The younger man paused for a moment, sighed, and then said, "She isn't aware of the fact that we have chosen these paths. We wanted to make actual progress before we talked to her, to prove to her that we are actually serious." At least that was what he felt about the whole situation. If Tyr felt the same was beyond him since while she'd been training to fight with Duarte she'd only recently decided upon the fact that she actually wanted to be a guard like Duarte was. Something he was happy about since he hoped that meant less fights for her but he wouldn't know until more time passed.
Grithis remained silent for a long moment, as though processing the information, before he finally said, "I see... well, you really need to see about telling her. It would have been more likely that you'd have followed in her path since you live with her so she may end up disappointed that you're not going to do as she does."
"I will. It will be done on my own time though so I would ask that you don't speak with her before I do, before the both of us do." He told his father, his tone serious, as was his expression. He hoped it would get the guy to do at least this one thing for them. They would speak with her when they were ready and not a moment before... and certainly not because their father was trying to force them into it.
The older man gave a nod of his head, "Fine, I won't tell her if you mean to do so on your own. I... hope that it works out for you, Tadeos and I hope that it works out for your sister as well." He turned, starting toward the door to the clinic, pausing in front of it. Turning back he said, "By the by, I work in the Knowledge Sector. It's not a place that the Geians are often found, but that is where I can be found. If you're interested come and visit, I can show you around." With that he headed out, leaving Tadeos on his own in the clinic once more.
Giving a sighing sound Tadeos plopped back down in his chair and muttered to himself, "Guess I'm going to have to let Tyr know about all of this." Not a conversation he was looking forward to but it would have to be done sooner then later. Once he was sure the man was gone he started to reach toward the piece of leather, wanting to calm himself by practicing more stitches. Before he could even begin though the door swung open again, this time it was Forthus standing there, "Doctor?"
"Grab my kit, Tadeos. The babies are coming and we have to go." He called to him before ducking out again. Tadeos went wide eyed before rushing to do as he was told, grabbing up what was needed, and he went racing after the doctor. It was the ninth month but he'd still thought he had time. No, no he had to be ready for this! Shaking his head he hurried forward, wanting to get to work, and to prove himself and his parents that he was serious about his career choice no matter what!
A sign reading 'Away From the Clinic, Be Back Soon!' was left on the door as he rushed off, door slamming behind him.
