A 'knight'? What kind of craziness was that? They were in Destiny City, not Hyrule. "Sorry." He muttered after a moment, realizing that he really wasn't bringing anything helpful to the discussion and it was less likely that Hartley was going to get the information he wanted out of the feline if he kept running his mouth about disbelief. "If no one wants to be fighting then why are they? Assuming you mean on both sides, and not just no one on whatever side you think we're on."

My Senshi teaches newbies so he'd be happy to teach you how to use your magic." Sumi looked up at Era to again, smiling. "I may be terrible at this part but I don't want to leave you with no help. I wanted you both to know you're not alone." ----------------------- "I appericiate it, even if Afton and I aren't exactly happy about this. And it's Hartley, not Erato." He didnt need the cat calling him the weird name when he wasn't dressed up. Like this he was still Hartley and eanted to keep it that way. "But a war?" ----------------------- Sumi looked between the two before nodding. "Our side doesn't want to fight. We were living peacefully when the Negaverse attacked us. And its our job to protect the universe from Chaos. So we don't want to fight but we do because its the right thing to do."

Afton almost started laughing again. He could feel it in his throat and the act of holding it back was nearly making him choke again. He hated it so much because he was trying really hard not to come off as a complete a** to the small cat that seemed to be trying just as hard to be helpful and reassuring. "Hart's right. It's gotta be for the best to not call people by their alter egos when that's not who they are right now. Pretty sure no one calls Clark Kent 'Superman' when he's got his glasses on." He could list of others as well, but he honestly didn't know if the small cat would actually get any of the references if he did.

"I think Bruce does when Clark is being obstinate." Sumi looked up at the knight, smirk on his lips. Arin was enough of a nerd he'd learned a few things from reading his books and comics. "I will call you Hartley though, now that I know. I'm Sumi, i think I told you before but in cas eyou don't remember." ----------------------- Hartley snickered slightly, covering his mouth before breaking off another bit of the muffin so he could actually work on eating it. "So, magical guardian in some weird war that isn't ending and no one knows why it's really going on. So we just .... change when something bad happens?" That was his biggest question. He really didn't want it happening randomly again. That was bad enough the first time and if it was going to happen regularly then he might need some therapy.

"I'm going to jump in there and say no to the changing whenever something bad happens-- unless you can make sure that no one sees you change, or has a way of linking you to you. Most places have done away with phone booths now, so I'm going to hazard a guess that it's usually better to suit up before things go to s**t." He took another sip of his tea as he pondered the answer he'd just given, wondering how he was suddenly, somehow becoming okay with this s**t. "There's not, like... A hidden base somewhere that keeps all of this stuff organized? Xavier's mansion or something? Avenger's tower?"

"No,no. You have to actually transform so it can't happen randomly. Hartley would have to use the pen and you," He pointed a paw at the knight. "Have to make yourself." At least that's how he thought it worked but he wasn't going to go into detail on that one. --------------------------------------------------- "Oh, thank god." The weight of that question, not know if he was safe from that, felt good to be gone from his shoulders. "If there was a base, don't you think the other side would have found it by now? I mean that always happens eventually." Not that he wanted there to be one. That sounded more like something Afton would like. ----------------------------------------------------- "The maus have a space but no, the Senshi don't have a base." Sumi shook his head slightly. "And your identity is safe, mostly. Even if someone sees you transform it will still confuse them. Glamour ... i'm explaining this wrong." He huffed out a breath before starting over. "There is a glamor on you which will keep anyone from recognizing you. So even if you look mostly the same anyone else, even if they know you, wont be able to recognize you."

"Ok, well... I'll give you the whole glamour thing, or whatever the heck it is, because both Hart and I saw the way it works." It was weird as hell and he didn't like it at all, honestly, considering he'd known that Hartley had been right there in that alley with him and he'd thought his friend had disappeared. "But people aren't stupid-- retract that -- most people aren't stupid. If you transform right in front of them they'll eventually put two and two together, kind of like Hart and I did. We might not have been able to recognize one another, but no matter how wrong it felt it was honest to god the only answer that made sense." Nothing made sense. He didn't know why he was still trying to make it seem like things did make sense. Christ. "So let's still go with erring on the side of caution and not doing the anime, magical girl transformation scene in front of anyone?"

"Well yes that is generally suggested. Most find somewhere near home or work, or where ever they tend to transform most often, they can do it safely. But not too close because you don't want someone feeling you powering up and figuring out where you are." Sumi shifted a bit, reaching up to scratch one ear gently. "You can feel others, good and bad, around you though." ------------------------------------------------------------------- "Wait, the bad guys can tell where we are?" Hartley's eyes widened a bit, setting his tea down. That didn't sound like a good thing if there were people out there trying to hurt them. He didn't really want to think about the whole glamor thing. Hartley hadn't liked the feeling when he'd first seen Afton, but not Afton, and his mind had tried to tell him that it wasn't his friend. "This all sounds so confusing."

The former was absolutely terrifying and not something that he wanted to think about at all. "What about... Ignoring all of this? Is ignoring all of this an option?"

"Oh! No. Just when you're powered up. Unless they're a Mau." It wouldn't be strange, and very unsafe, if anyone could feel a other powered individuals when they were just walking around. For one Sumi was sure there would be a lot more murders in the city and that wasn't ever a good idea. --------------------------------------------------------------- Hartley frowned slightly and nudged Afton's foot with his. "We can't just .. i mean we could and that would be great ... but what's that Spiderman quote everyone says?" He very much liked the idea of ignoring the whole thing but somehow knew that just wasn't going to be an option.

He hated it when Harley was right-- Well, he didn't always hate it when Hartley was right, but in this instance it kind of sucked, even if he knew it was right. "So is there anything else that Hart needs to know? Or are you just going to send him texts every now and then with updates and to check in? Where do we go from here?"

"I think that's the basics. The important ones." Sumi nodded again, shifting to stand up and stretch. "Ill keep in touch with him, its what we do. But..." Sumi tipped his head slightly in thought. "Its probably best if I introduce you both to Arsinoe and Mag Mell officially. They can help you more since they've been doing this for years." ------------------------------------- "So you want to hand us off to some senior magical people?" That wasn't a bad idea, at least no more a bad idea than any of this was. Nothing good ever seemed to work out for people in Aftons cartoons. "Does that mean ill get more phone calls in the ... The phone that isnt mine?"

"One of those two names-- That's the guy in white. The one who was there the night everything went batshit, yeah?" He seemed to recall tuning out most of what the man and the cat had been saying that night, but he also remembered something that had seemed like the other guy-- the knight-- trying to convince the cat not to overwhelm them. That couldn't be all that bad, right?

Sumi nodded again. "Yes, that's one of them. The other is the senshi i'm bonded to and he's very helpful to newbies." Sumi just wasn't going to mention that he was also a little tough on them. Erato would need help learning how to be a seshi and Lucien had gotten better at being nicer. --------------------------------------- "I guess, I mean ... if we've got to do this." Hartley looked over at Afton again for a moment before looking back at the kitten. "Then that's what we should do."

"If we're going to run around and meet other NPCs I'd at least like to get lunch first, maybe even dinner. That sort of thing is still allowed with all of this nonsense, right? Gotta have down time to make saving the world seem like it's actually worth it and all?" He ran his fingers through his hair, resisting the urge to sigh as he wondered just how much any of this was going to cut into the ability he had to focus on any of his classes. "Maybe you can set up a meeting and send a message to Hart. He knows how to get a hold of me, at least." He popped the lid off of his cup, tilting it slightly in order to hold it out to Sumi as a sort of peace offering, provided the cat wanted to take a sip of mostly unsweetened green tea.
