Oh boy. He wasn't sure how he felt about that. He was doing well now, jumping into his training and really trying, but that hasn't been the case when he'd first woken up. Everything had just been very overwhelming in the beginning. "O-okay. I'll help as much as I can." He retreated a couple of steps when her runes flared brighter, but when she didn't immediately attack he rushed in again. He caught Niceven on the return and brought the star around for a fast, downward swipe across the other trainee's body. HP: 27 DMG: 6 CHG: 3/3

"I appreciate it! And if there's anything I can do in return to help, please let me know. I'm totally up to help out new friends." She gave him a bright smile, which turned into a serious 'OOOMF' when his next hit came in, and she stumbled back. In fact, she stumbled back hard enough that her attempt at a return swing just went 'WOOOOOOOOOOOOSH' over his head, not even managing to brush the tips of his hair. She barely kept herself from going over, and finally came to a halt, before rebalancing herself. "DAMN, son, you hit hard! I'm impressed!" His initial inclination in regards to her comment was to apologize, and he had to bite back the instinct before it actually slipped out. Instead, and looking mighty sheepish, he smiled at her. "Thanks, I think." That was a good thing, right? At least here. "Um, How old are you?" For whatever reason, he always just sort of assumed the people he ran into on the island were older. Most of them were, save for the junior trainees and the twins, and right on the cusp of eighteen, he was probably closer in age to some of the newer trainees than he'd thought. Even as he asked though, he was still moving. Still trying to win this thing. Bouncing back after the sword had gone over his head, he threw the star again, aiming for the other trainee's torso. HP:27 DMG: 5 CHG: 3/3

"No I think about it, that was 100% a compliment, dude! The harder you can hit, the better you'll do on the battle field. Hits like that against things like that Gods Be Damned Lobster will turn the tide of your future battle! You're clearly working hard to get good, fast!" She beamed at him, then OOF'd at his next hit. "18, as of April. Well, I think. I haven't actually checked what year it is, and I don't want to, if I can avoid it... I'm not sure how long I was in the pod." She said as she swung, her expression very serious. "I'm not ready to deal with the realization of how long it may or may not have been. Please do me a solid, and don't tell me..." "Well, I guess when you put it that way," he conceded, and even grinned, finally letting himself feel a bit of pride over how well he seemed to be doing in this spar. Better than he'd been expecting honestly, but it wasn't as if he had the kindest of views on himself or his abilities. Her are served to throw him a bit, and it made him slow to respond to the next attack. Her said cane in to scrap along his side, and it made him since, jerking away from it. His swing in retaliation barely brushed her shield. "I'm almost eighteen. Got recruited right after my last birthday." Not that she'd asked, but it seemed only fair to answer his own question back for her. HP: 24 DMG: 1 CHG: 3/3

"Close in age! Nice to find hunters close to me. I think most of the hunters I've met are older, by at least a year or two, maybe more. I know we've some much younger ones running around, though, too. Someone told me something about deaging?" She sounded extremely confused about that, which given how new she was, probably made sense. She didn't even wince when his weapon came in, but knew she did not have much left in her. Still, until this was over, she was going to do her best to give it her all. Very close in age. It had Henry smiling a little unsurely, but as Seren mentioned the de-aged hunters he'd nod. "Yeah, Creation had something to do with it. I guess everyone on the island got reverted to teens for a day, but when whatever it was that had done it faded, some of them were still kids." That's what he'd heard, anyways. Her next hit was enough to startle the wind right out of him, and her jerked away from it, turning away from the blade, but he only let himself retreat that one step. Then he was back into it, bringing the star around to drive one of it's points into her side before she was able to skip too far away from him. HP: 19 DMG: 5 CHG: 3/3

Her eyes narrowed at the mention of Creation, not happy about that tree at all. "That tree is a danger to us all, it sounds like. We are living things, not dolls for it to play with. I do not like that it treats us like toys, changing us, killing us, what have you, with no thoughts for our wishes or desires, ever, but claiming it's here to help us. What has it actually DONE for us?" His hit made her go oof, and between the hardness of the hit, and her unhappiness with the damn Creation tree, her next swing was erratic and a waste of her time, to be utterly honest. He couldn't do much but shrug helplessly at her. "Nothing? But I don't think they can get rid of it, either. I think we're stuck with it." That tree, what it was capable of, really put into perspective, at least for Henry, what it meant to be a Legacy. Planting his feet, he rotated his body to bring the pointed edge of the star around in stabbing motion directed at Seren's side. HP: 19 DMG: 8 CHG: 3/3

That last hit got a gasp out of her, as her shield went down. She went to her knees, as Di went out of her hands, going into the classic 'yield' position. "Damn, you're good! First person at the same level as me to beat me, Henry!" She gasped out, trying to catch her breath, but a smile on her face. After she caught her breath, she sighed and said "I know. It's clearly far too powerful for us to do anything about it, but... I wish it was gone. It scares me, greatly."

He'd...won? Henry stood there for a long moment in disbelief before he actually seemed to register that Seren was on her knees and he should maybe do something about that. "Oh! Sorry, here," and he'd let his own weapon return to it's totem so he could offer her a hand up. "You're the first person I've beaten." One of his first spars, actually, but he certainly intended to get out more. "I know what you mean, though. About the tree." He glanced back over his shoulder, towards the beach, towards the shadow of the much larger tree past the natural tree line of the island. "It just seems like it's, I dunno, looming."

She smiled a little, and accepted the hand, pulling herself into a standing position. "Well, hey. You did good. It feels good, that first win, doesn't it?" She remembered her first spar, and win, and how good it felt to be able to DO that, to know she was in the right place, able to fight the right way. She gave him a warm grin, and then patted his shoulder gently. She sighed softly and glanced at it, shuddering a little. "Yeah. Looming is a good word. Also see: Ominous, Creepy, Terrifying, Dangerous..."

"Foreboding," he offered grimly, letting her hand to now that she was up on her feet again. "You sure you're okay?" He knew they had shields, and he knew there wards, but it was still kind of hard to wrap his head around all the physical abuse they could take and not get hurt.

"Another, very apt, word for the situation." She slid her hands into the pockets of her coat, and sighed a little. "You a reader? You've got a good vocabulary on you." She gave him a smile and said "Yeah, I'm good! I didn't fly today, and I didn't actually eat dirt or something, so I'm definitely ok. I'll need some rest, and I won't be wanting to spar with anyone else today, though." Her expression was one of easy calm, even if she looked a touch tired.

"I, uh." He blinked, cheeks darkening just a touch. "A little bit, yeah. Um, thank you." He tried to sound at least somewhat intelligent. At least most of the time. "If you're sure." The reassurance helped to easy the worry, and as it faded the pride crept in again, and with it, the smile. After a moment he offered his hand. "Good fight, Seren."
