"True," was all he managed to get out before another low hit, coupled with the rough grating of the chain on his leg, sent him down into the mud again. He wasn't quite as quick to get back onto his feet again, but he continued, saying, "Doesn't feel like you're pulling punches so much, either, charges or not."
As soon as he was able to, he dashed forward, blindly swinging in hopes of getting another good hit in before he went down for the count.

"I could pull them if you'd like." He moved out of the way as he said it, something just slightly worried coming into his expression. Instead of swinging in against Rhys in response, Ever paused, brought the sheath of his weapon up in a loosely defensive way, and raised both eyebrows in question. "I did offer..." "You did offer," he said through heavy breaths, dashing toward the Hunter again and swinging for his shoulder. "And it's fine. Just meant to say you're already strong enough for me without your charges. Any more and I think I'd feel a little too lacking." He grinned at that; he wanted a challenge after all, and he definitely found it in this spar.

"I did --" But there was something wary about Ever, now. Whatever had annoyed him enough to really take a few solid whacks at Rhys had faded away to something more thoughtful, maybe a bit guilty. When he swung out again, it was more cautious -- overly so, even. A swat, and nothing more. Not even enough to ding Rhys's shield. HP: 24/60 DMG: 0

He didn't even really feel the swat thanks to his shield, so Rhys took the opening and slashed at the Hunter again. He noticed a changed in something about the guy, however briefly, so he hopped back a bit to give Ever some room in case he needed it.
"You did, so what's up?" he asked, a bit glad for the pause.

"Just making sure you're really alright, I guess, I don't want to really hurt -- " As he spoke, he stepped in to swing again. In the muck and the mud, though, he slid and ended up striking much harder than intended, his dagger sweeping across the side of Rhys's legs and the rest of Ever following to bowl into him. He was skinny, elbows and knees beneath all his layers, but it still packed a punch. HP: 17/60 DMG: 11

There was a very loud swear when the dagger struck his shield one last time, quickly followed up by Ever's whole body as the Hunter slipped and wound up body slamming right into him. Rhys went down hard, and he stayed there, head spinning as he groaned quietly to himself.
"Callin' it," he said as he de-summoned Zephira, causing a necklace to materialize over his muddied shirt. "Thanks for the fight but I'm ********' done..." From where he lay he craned his neck a little bit to look and see where Ever ended up, hoping the guy didn't end up eating mud like him.

Ever had kept himself from faceplanting in the mud only by putting one hand down -- which meant he'd still splashed it all up one side of himself, had flecks stuck to his cheek and the corner of his mouth, soaking his right arm almost to the elbow. He grimaced as he shook it out, looked down to Rhys, and now his expression was a bit more concerned, serious. "Are you okay? I slipped a bit, didn't mean to slam you quite so hard..."

When he saw that he was alright he lay his head down again, initially being answered with a thumb's up.
Rhys sat up eventually though, and since he was already covered in mud he just turned so they could have a proper conversation. "I'm alright, and no worries, dude. Just glad the shields take most of the damage." Despite the soreness already setting in, the trainee had a grin on his face. "Thanks for the spar, feels like I still got a long way to go. How long you been doin' this?"

"Not sure, exactly." He had to hesitate over it, to think while he offered Rhys a hand up properly to his feet. Ever tipped his head with his eyes distant while he did a little bit of math. "I was 24, I guess, so...four years? Three? Somewhere in there."

He accepted the help up and got as much mud off of his clothes as he could manage while the other figured out an answer to his question. When the number came Rhys made an "o" with his mouth, nodding. "Long time," he mused, wondering about having just gotten past his two-year mark at Deus. It suddenly made him feel like he was lagging behind a bit, though he didn't say anything about it.
"Got any pointers for me, then, before I go get cleaned up?" And then he smirked. "I mean other than asking instead of randomly jumping people out here on the field."

"Just, generally, don't be an a**, I guess." His tone was dry, though, more teasing than actually biting. He swiped his hand against his side as well, trying to clean it off. "Use your words? Christ, I sound like an elementary school teacher."

The brunette chuckled before shrugging at the advice. "I think I can manage that, Teach," was all he could say to that, though he was grinning because of the last bit. He was hoping for something maybe more sagely and applicable to the field versus sparring, but it was reasonable advice all the same.
"If I see you out here again, at least, I'll use my words. Maybe ask for a full on spar, charges and all."
He was about as cleaned up as he could be for the moment, so he desummoned his weapon and nodded toward the dorms.
"For now I'll see you around. Kinda feel and look like s**t so wanna get cleaned up. Any chance there's a cleaners around here?"

"...have no idea." It wasn't something Ever'd really thought about before. He blinked down at his own clothes with his head tipped to the side. "I've always washed my own clothes. You can do that, for sure." He half-turned in place to gesture toward where the laundry machines lived. Probably he'd end up there himself, soon. Unless he just dragged his stuff into the shower with him to do it by hand. "As a rule, we do things ourselves..."

"I've always done my own laundry," he said, brows frowning a bit. "I kinda meant more a building with equipment we could use," he said in his own defense, though throwing it in muddy clothes in the wash worked just as well by his experience. There was just a small part of him that wanted to take better care of his Division jacket.
"That's fine, though. This thing'll survive a trip through the wash."
With that he started walking, heading first to the dorms but already peeling off his mud-stained jacket. "Gonna head in, then. You comin'?"
