He was distressed. Every time he heard the rain and thought about it too much, he thought of Atlantis, what he had done, what he failed to do, about people and trust and ultimate loss. It wasn't something he wanted to revisit when Lawr was here.
"I appreciate the offer for help and if I need it, I'll come find you." He finished, letting the topic drop for now
Sipping his coffee, he leaned back in his chair. "Not much really. I went to dare night. Lysander is still anger at me for twisting his poor little arm when I escorted him out of his pod. Keeps saying I assaulted him. Thinks I'm crazy." He took a moment to smile at Lawr. "As if I'm crazy." He took a sip of his coffee.
"His little assistant doesn't seem to like me all that much either. The little prince dared me to punch myself. I did, because really, I'm not doing to back down to a spoiled brat."
He then thought about it and smiled at him. "Did pay him back for it. Gave him two black eyes during a spar."

"No, no you aren't at all crazy." Lawrence said with the air of someone who was an authority on sanity. "Simply honest."
Lawrence laughed at Melvin's story about his new friends. "And good, don't let people walk over you, many people only understand the language of violence. It is highly effective on people who think they are above it also."
He smirked. "I'm sad that I missed that little dare night everyone mentioned, sounded like quite a bit of fun all around, at the very least quite the spectacle to behold." He looked thoughtful. "Don't think I have sparred in quite some time."

"It was a bite of a train wreck, but there were a few fun moments. I tried to behave best I could after truth night on the other island. I did manage to get some attention, but nothing too insane." Though he wasn't sure he would want Lawr there after trying to kiss Mik and causing Malkam to hit him. Then again, he probably wouldn't have done it with Lawr there - as then the hottest person in the room would have shifted.
"Might have gotten in trouble if you were there. Dares are too tempting." He said, taking a sip. "My self control is only just being build up around you."
"I wouldn't mind sparring with you. I've been restless a lot with the rain. I can't dive or go to walks like I used to so I've been going in the train to the training fields. It lets all the physical energy I would have spent..........well.......and instead just hitting something."

Lawrence listened with a faint smile, enjoying just hearing what Melvin had been up to. "I'm glad you are getting attention, but not at all surprised, you are a prize, the most wonderful prize. If things weren't the way they are.." and he pushed the thought away.
Getting up to fetch himself a glass of water, Lawrence took a sip and gave Melvin a sidelong look. "What would you have dared me to do?" he asked

He looked up from his coffee. "I'd dare you to sing. I'm dare you to sing about one of the best nights we had in bed to the entire party. I'd record it to hear it when I went to bed, because I love your songs." And the rest of what he love went unspoken.
He took another sip of his coffee.
"What would you dare me if you had been there?"

Lawrence laughed at this. "Oh that would be scandalous, given the sort of nights we had. People would be very, very upset by it all, I guarantee. They cannot stand even thinking about my sex life in any way shape or form. They'd all rather I didn't have one. You'd be tormenting the whole party, two birds with one stone."
He looked thoughtful.
"Hmm. I'd probably just have asked you to try and seduce me. Just to see what you did. Cruel of me I know, but."
He shrugged.
"I imagine the others would have dared me to leave several times over."

"What do I care about their comfort? The reward would be too priceless. Maybe the song would help them see what you are truly capable of and not think you were some weak little flame in the bedroom." He tried not to recall the nights he cherished and the ones like a favorite film he overplayed late on lonely nights.
"I would just dare you to stay just so I could have the chance to try and seduce you and see if that glimmer was still in your eyes or if your tastes have changed so drastically all this time. And I'd wait for you to tell me if I was successful or not." The coffee in his hands was starting to get luke warm.
"Maybe prove that I still had it."

"I don't think that anything could change their opinion about me, many of them have built a fortress of hatred around that opinion, no amount of joking could crumble it."
"And oh come now you know that you still have it." Lawrence said, a little tetchily, mostly because it was often frustrating just how much Melvin had. "So don't worry about that. And my tastes have not changed at all. It would be a most problematic game." He laughed, relaxing again. "Perhaps fortunate that I wasn't there."

He sighed at that statement, sliding the mug aside and setting his head down atop his arms as he tilted his head to look at him. "Probably problematic, but that never stopped us. I enjoy your company too much, and don't think you should stop living life and having fun because some people wanna rain on our parade. Never had to care about their opinions before. Shouldn't care so much now." He smiled and watched him, generally just pleased to see him sitting in his apartment.
"I like this. Reminds me of before when we were just thinking about building a place of our own and still living here." He glanced about the apartment. "Though you did have more taste in decor. Haven't bothered with much furniture." He had a few things still left form before. The things they didn't buy new for the house stayed in the apartment, but a lot left. He still had boxes packed.
He looked back at him. "How are things with you?"

"I think the problem is with my particular brand of fun." Lawrence said slowly. "My idea of fun involves a lot of collateral damage and emotional injury. A lot of sex, a lot of things Rodney finds upsetting. Other people are probably right to judge that sort of thing. At least I still have my leave and the ability to visit musicals, art exhibitions, music recitals and things like that. I enjoy those. And my cooking."
He smiled with genuine pleasure. "I love having a garden, I just wish the rain would stop so that I can appreciate it more fully again, my trees don't like the current downpour too much."
He nodded to Melvin. "It does. And you are probably better off without my pickiness in your way, able to express yourself a little more."
Stretching he shrugged. "Things are all right, this medicine is a nightmare in terms of making me tired but not letting me sleep, I'm getting better at the owl thing and the golem studies are interesting. I still miss doing things with you though, cooking for you as well."

"You would have liked me on truth night on the island. I kinda screwed it all up. No one asking things they couldn't ask over coffee." He paused. "Rep knew me too well and attacked back. It's a powerful artifact, that ring. Wish I had it. Been debating going off again for another artifact."
"I like your brand of fun." Maybe in the past he hadn't but things were too different that with so much that all he ever wanted to do amymore was let go.
He watched Lawr as he stretched. He watched his muscles moving tight against bones. "You look like you are still eating normally. Wish you could sleep better, but if you ever wanna crash for a nap here I'll always leave the window open. I do mias your cooking. I learned a lot helping you but I'm not as good. Been going to the bar to eat off and on when I can't stomach the cafeteria."
"Did your sons move back in?"

"I'd have loved to have watched you go, might even have had a few questions to ask. I doubt there's anything anyone could ask me at this point which would surprise them or bother me. I don't think they have the imagination to challenge me." he smirked. "Artifacts are interesting, if a bit of a bother at times. I wouldn't like anyone else to know about mine."
"Really?" he asked with a laugh. "You used to be so averse, it's a shame, we could have had quite a bit of fun. I used to get up to all sorts of things on leave which you could have come along for."
"And yes they are back." he said. "It's safer with them at home, it's where they belong. I'm happy with them there. A real pity I had to lose you to bring them there though. If you would ever like me to cook you something, please do ask, it isn't a problem at all."

"You don't need a ring to ask me questions. You don't need a ring to get anythig from me." He watched him with a bit of a frown. "I could ask to borrow it for a night if you want. Could be interesting." He pointed out, wondering what exactly Lawr would ask and in turn wanted to know the truth about.
Closing his eyes as he rested his head on his folded arms, he consodered things a moment. "Not anything fatal. Not anything that would cause them to take themselves. But I can't say I'm not guilty of being violent. I can just see that my justifications are pointless now. I'm not the same person and now it just....seems silly to me for us all to pretend we don't do it for sport as much as duty. That we excuse it till we need to punish it. I'm not any of the podlings anymore thay can wave a banner of things being fair and just. I feel too old to be that disillusioned. This place is just a meat grinder and we're the teeth being worn down. Who can blame us for biting."
He sighed out, more somber now. "It's never a problem for you to come here. It's a blessing. As special as a owl coming by your windowsill."

"Would they even lend it to you?" he said with a slight smile. "Because you is implicitly us."
He propped his chin up on his only hand. "Nothing fatal? Everything is fatal in the end you know. Life is fatal. I agree though violence is more fun when they are alive, I tend to need to be in a very specific sort of mood to take it beyond that."
When he was in those moods it was like being pulled under water, a frantic clawing desperation that could only be sated by one thing. It didn't feel like it was his fault when it happened, it felt like survival.
Melvin got a more genuine smile for his last comment. "I enjoy your company Melvin, me should never feel like a special occaison. It should be normal."

"I can ask. I don't have to specify who I'm using it with and as long as it's safely returned then I see no reason for them to be paranoid." He said. "It's not like I'm asking for their kitchen knives."
His attention flickered to the open window that he left for Lawr and back to him. "It's not a everyday occurrence. It's special to me. I don't want to disrupt things by visiting your home." Your home. "Else I'd come over a lot more often. I hope things get easier once I have a place. Atlantis isn't helping."
He sighed out at this. "I'm setting up a mission to take Kim's artifact back. We had a meeting about it. I couldn't do it on my own. Not with the weather and golems like this. She is the only one who knows where on the Creation Tree Island the thing was last placed. I'm concerned the newer hunters might not be equipped, but I don't have the option of not having backup."
