His comments, his words, snapped all the fury out of her, just leaving the crumpled face of some one barely into adulthood, and who didn't know what to do anymore. "I didn't... know what to do. It just... hurt." Her face showed only tiredness, no enthusiasm in the fight left. She made a 'NNN' sound at the hit his pick gave. "They always defend him, the giant man child..." came the whisper in her head. "Do they always defend the men who do bad things, these other humans?" Her expression didn't change, hearing the voice of Diwata in her mind, but she felt a little better knowing some one heard her side, and understood. "I'm just tired of men with power looking down on me." She almost whispered, as she swung. HP: 26 / 40 DMG: 3

He did not want to do this. It was too reminiscent of things that Merric had long since buried deep, too close to home for it to be anything other than painful. Friendships were fragile things; he could not pretend that he knew anything about how they worked, or how to maintain them, or what anyone was supposed to do.
The anger at him was still there, a residual presence in Merric's mind, curling alongside Rinzler's snapping disappointment. He could not so easily push it out of his thoughts.
He should have felt sorry for Seren. He did feel sorry for her, in some respects, because it wasn't like Lysander was some pristine example of a perfect human being who could do no wrong. He should not have said the things he had said, but they had been said, Merric knew, out of ignorance, rather than malice.
He could not move past the anger directed at him. It was a burning, fizzling sensation throughout his body, a buzzing beneath his skin, against his skull.
No words would come out. Merric swung blindly, the rain obscuring his vision, his throat feeling tight.

His lack of response left her even more crumpled in, and desperate for this horrible mistake to be over. She'd wanted a chance to be friends with Merric, but clearly that was no longer possible. She'd gotten angry at the wrong person, and just like back home, it was going to ruin everything for her. She should have known, even here, to leave the men who were used to power alone. No one would help her if she didn't. She made a sharp, fast slash at Merric, quiet hopelessness on her face, at being reminded of these things, being reminded too much of angering people like her father. She didn't care if she won or lost, anymore. HP: 26 / 40 DMG: 6

The rain was making it hard to see, and Merric's inexperience with fighting, his completely lack of physical strength, meant that he was at a large disadvantage already, even before he had gotten into this fight in the first place. He had not even mocked her and it had been taken as mocking anyway.
Barron's voice collided with Rinzler's inside of Merric's head, arrogant laughter mingled with disappointed disgust.
< What if you are wrong? You chose wrong. >
He staggered sideways at the blow, pain throbbing up his side. Merric spun the pick around, a useless endeavor.

She winced, a little, at his hit, the small physical ache just connecting to the ache she was feeling regarding this whole situation. She stepped to the side, managing to not slip in the mud that was the training field, her glasses speckled with rain. She had so little left to give, if this was how the world was going to keep being. Her face was just a mask of misery. She swung low, again, turning it so the flat would hit him, rather then the edge. HP: 25 / 40 DMG: 5

He was growing tired. Merric's glasses were streaked, his clothing a complete and utter mess now; Roswell would have likely been horrified - if he'd been Lysander. But he was not Lysander, and this was not how he had wanted things to turn out at all.
The blow made him breathless. Merric staggered, sliding on the wet ground, and tried to aim a blow for Seren's ankle, gasping for air.

All her frustration, all her unhappiness was boiling inside her as his hit connected. She made a frustrated, miserable 'AGHHHHHHH!' Sound, her blade swinging in for another hit. She didn't know where she was targeting anymore, and once she hit, she pulled back, slammed her blade into ground, and just sat down, hard in the mud. She pulled her knees to her chest, and closed her eyes, trying not to cry in frustration. She had no idea how hard she'd hit, all she knew was she was done, and she was tired of feeling like an unwanted failure. HP: 23 / 40 DMG: 9

He had not expected such a hard hit.
Merric's breath left him in a sharp, painful gasp, eyes widening behind his rain streaked glasses as the sword connected with his side. He staggered, a hand flying up automatically, and heard Rinzler's shout of anger and frustration as he landed on one knee, then tilted sideways, half collapsing onto the ground.
His entire body was aching. Merric did not want to get up, the cold and the wet, muddy grass leeching in through his clothes, which were starting to stick uncomfortably to his skin. He couldn't stop shivering; his chest rising and falling rapidly to get air into his lungs, feeling breathless and embarrassed and ashamed.
His gaze went sideways to Seren, sitting a few feet away, knees pulled up and her head down; the very picture of a sad, defeated human being that Merric knew only too well. It was ludicrous to think that she would have helped him after how hard she had just hit him, and how little they had agreed on things.
After a few moments, Merric dragged himself to his feet, flinching violently. He said nothing to Seren; clearly she had little interest in speaking to him, either, and slowly, he began to make his way off of the training field, across the muddy, wet ground.

If she could have seen him, she would have helped. She couldn't, though. However, she heard him moving, and she spoke. "I'm sorry for being a horrible person. I wanted to be friends, but you deserve better friends." She didn't move, she barely seemed to be breathing. She had no idea how hard she'd hit him. She just sat there in the mud.
