"Augh I never date coworkers." he said grimly. "It gets too weird after when you still need to work with them." Roswell got a look which clearly implied a bit of judgement that he hadn't made similar choices.
"Guess I'll just be foreveralone." he said without much sadness in his tone at the prospect. "More time to work on looking really really good."

"Oh, yes, you've been very good at remaining single in the past," Roswell said, heavily doubting Fred's newfound resolution to work on himself.
"It's hardly worth learning their names. You should just name them in succession, like pet fish. If you had you'd be on Goldy the Seventheenth. ...Not that you don't care for them. I know you do, but I also keep on telling you that you need to look for qualities that are more than how well they go with your hat."

"I can't help my raw animal magnetism." he said innocently. "But I'm pretty good about the co-workers rule and have been to date. Everyone was outside the circle, helped that you'd never dated anyone, no second hand girlfriends either."
He looked scandalised at the mention of his hat. "I can't believe you'd say that." he said huffily. "My hat is really important and if I had a girlfriend that didn't match my outfit well, where would I be?" It just usually happened that the kind of women willing to accommodate his various requests were career girls whose career involved finding men like him with money and no sense on how to spend it or what it was essentially worth.

"You'd be with someone who cared what happened to the person under the hat," Roswell said. "Not that I think anyone should neglect hats. That is one thing I have missed, is having anyone around who cares about the state of their clothes. The coats can be tailored, by the way. Your uniform that you received,
as long as it's not cut past a certain length and the pattern is distinguishable.
Higher ranks earn a color to add to the edges. There's also a scarf you have to wear, that you also can take some liberties with. I've been using mine as a tie."
Roswell felt lighter as they walked out of their building's dark underbelly.
