It kinda made him feel special to know that someone that didn't cook without good reason would agree to cook for him at all, so he kind of smiled after she said that. And what she said next only added to that feeling of being special, so his smile got a bit bigger. "********' wicked, are you serious?" He glanced down at his arm and curled his lip. "Might be a while, but thanks."
"For the snacks, too," he quickly added, then paused before adding just a bit more. "And for swinging by." It still surprised him that she was around and helping him out so much considering they hadn't known each other long. It was weird and unfamiliar and sometimes freaked him out--attachments just really weren't his thing--but there was a part of him that thought it was a relief that there was someone he could be comfortable around on the island.
That part kind of scared him, though.

"Absolutely serious." She grinned at him, glad to see him smiling over it. "I look forwards to it, to be honest." She looked at his arm too, and reached over to find an un-bandaged, and appropriate, spot, then patted it. "You gotta heal first, man. Your well being matters more then anything else in this discussion." More then many things on this damn island, in her opinion, given how few of these people had earned her regard, though that was a thought she kept well under wraps.
"Yeah. Of course. You deserve a little spoilin', you're injured. It's what I do when I can for friends..." She had no clue that she ever made him uncomfortable with that word, he'd managed to keep that to himself quite thoroughly. "Any particular favorites? I don't promise I can make 'em but if I can, I will."

That word made him mentally flinch again, but despite himself he was getting used to it being directed at him. He sighed and glanced down at all the bandages, not looking forward to whatever was left of the healing process. Experience told him there would be a lot of scabbing over and itching during the process, which wasn't gonna be fun. Still, the prospect of snacks made it seem more bearable.
"Donuts!" he said probably little too loudly. "If you can. If not, I'm pretty sure anything else you make is gonna be good so whatever you feel like makin'."

She watched him looking at his bandages, and was only able to give him a comforting grin, wishing she could do more. Healing was, sadly, something she couldn't do jack all to help him with. "One vaguely positive side, I suppose... It didn't ******** up your tattoo at all, that damn stake..."
She kind of jumped when he spoke, surprised by the volume, and almost slipped off the edge of the bed. She managed to keep herself from falling, though it was awkward. "I... Hmm. I'll have to see. Never made them before, but I know how to fry so... I'll try, ok?" It was worth giving it a go if it made his time in here a little better.

Rhys made to reach over to help keep her from slipping off the bed and immediately regretted the sudden movement, grimacing as he leaned back against the headboard.
"I like crepes, too, if those are easier." His voice was really strained as he put up with the pain shooting up and down his arm and pretty much the rest of his body, too. Sudden movement was really not a good idea, but that was clearly a knee-jerk reaction. Despite the pain he actually found himself wondering why he had that reaction in the first place, though, and his head wound back around to the word "friend" and sort of freaked him out in the process.
"But like I said, whatever you feel like making works, too."

She saw the grimace, and frowned, with concern. "Do you want me to see if one of the infirmary staff can bring you some painkillers?" She was touched he had tried to help her, but his pain was rather more important. After all, the worse that had been likely to happen was she'd embarrass herself, if she'd slipped. "You look like it really ********' hurts."
She smiled a little, though, regarding crepes and all. "We'll see what I can come up with, though crepes are another thing I'd rather attempt with you around... Cause I mean. Come on. They're way better fresh." She shifted a little to face him better, eyes concerned.

"No, I'm good," he replied, though his voice was still a bit strained as he adjusted himself to get comfortable again.
"And that's true about fresh crepes..." Rhys took a second to think of something else he might actually enjoy. Both of his favorites were things that apparently weren't the easiest to make in a kitchen from scratch, so he'd have to settle for something a lot simpler. For now. A light bulb went off in his head when he finally thought of something. "What about churros?"

She watched him settle back, concern still in her blue eyes, until he seemed at least more comfortable. "If that changes before I leave, tell me, ok? You shouldn't have to be in pain, Rhys." She tilted his head, bemused by the idea of churros as not being just another donut, but didn't comment. Instead, she pulled her phone out and pulled up a recipe, then showed it to him. "Would you consider red bean filled donuts? This is one I've considered trying, too... I always wanted to try them as a kid." She didn't comment on her father making them for himself, and when Dai came along, for Dai, and that she only ever got to smell them.

Sea green eyes scanned the screen she was currently showing him; he mostly skimmed through the info, but a donut was a donut and this donut looked pretty great. "Dude, if it's a donut I will eat it without any kinda problems. Trust me."
He smiled and leaned back then, closing his eyes. Normally he would be up for more conversation but this whole healing process took a lot out of it, apparently. He tried not to let it show too much though, so a few seconds later he opened his eyes and looked over at Seren again. "French toast sounds pretty good too, actually. I remember reading about those cream-filled ones; was planning on trying them on my next leave."

"Good... I'll try these then, see if I can get them right and bring you the results." She looked pleased at the fact that she would have something to make, something she wanted to eat too, so she didn't need to have much in the way of volunteers for taste testing... She wanted that to be Rhys's job primarily, since he was so eager about it. Seeing him excited about food was a super nice thing.
"French toast is pretty good, yeah. Never heard about cream filled before..." She saw he seemed tired, but unless he wanted her to leave, or she got called to do some duty or other, she planned to stay for now. Being in here alone had to suck.

The cream-filled French toast was from IHOP; it came with a good size meal at a price he considered splurge-ish so he only had it once every few months or so. Still, it left a good impression and had become his regular thing to have whenever he ate at IHOP. Which, even now, wasn't even all that often so the idea of being able to make it on his own was appealing. If she could teach him, anyway.
"IHOP, look 'em up," he replied, then gestured as best as he could to the pillow behind his back. "Hey, could you do me a favor and fluff my pillow a little? I can feel the ********' railing on the headboard already."

"Ohhhhh Ihop... Yeah, I knew people back home who went there for fun. Got to go once or twice." She shrugged, avoiding talking more about it, but nodded. "I'll look into it. Probably wouldn't be too hard, most cream filled stuff is cooked then stuffed with the filling." She never made donuts before, but she had worked at a donut shop, as the front counter, and saw enough of that to know.
His request had her smiling a little, glad to help. She stood up, because otherwise this was going to get a LOT more personal then either of them were prepared for, she suspected, and shifted to where she could do so. "Sit up a bit? Can't do it right while you're leaning on it."

The brunette did as he was told and sat up as best he could, though the motion did make him groan just a tiny bit. When she was finished he sat back and wriggled around a bit until he was comfy again before settling down.
"That's better," he mused, sinking into it a little more. "Thanks."

She gently patted his shoulder, then went and sat back down next to him, head tilted, thinking.
"So where did you go for your mission?" She paused, then flushed a little, realizing she might have been a little nosy there, and adds "I mean don't feel you have to tell me if you can't or don't want to. I'm just curious." She bit her lip, mentally calling herself stupid for being nosy.

He was just getting even more comfortable when she brought up the mission, causing him to tense up a little as he was reminded of the ending of that whole thing. The brunette sighed and let his head fall back to gently rest against the frame of the headboard.
"Was back in Me-xi-co," he replied. Absently his hand reached for the freaky bruise and started scratching as memories of the ordeal flashed through his mind again. "At the outpost I was at for over a year and a half. Only reason I even got called back was 'cause I was already familiar with the place. Not sure I was actually qualified for it, but," and he shrugged, "I'm lookin' at it as growing pains."
