She seemed alright, like she kept up just fine even if a lot of what he was saying was mostly unfamiliar. It was his turn to listen for a while as she explained her situation a little more, and out of habit from before, when he worked at his local (cheap as ********) gym, he crossed his arms and nodded every now and again to show that he was taking in everything that she was saying.
"Nah, I can help you out at the gym if you want but no need to show me what'cha got right now." He grinned then, at the bit about becoming a personal trainer--it was a real smile this time, his first one in days. It felt good but there was a bit of guilt lingering in the back of his mind. Zephira could only sigh at the duality he seemed to have right in that moment, but it wasn't the first time she'd seen it so she left it alone. "No one at our gym could afford a personal trainer, and if they did they sure as hell wouldn't pick me. I was the guy doin' odd jobs around the place, cleaning the bathrooms and other s**t like that." The brunette easily brushed off the comment, though if he actually had a choice he would have gone on to study something in that field.
"Anyway, I wouldn't recommend you only do sit-ups, actually. It only works out your abs and your core is a whole lot more than just your abs." He paused for a second, partly to take a breath and partly to put some thought into something before he said it. "If you want we can go to the gym so I can see where you're at first, then I'll put together a little training schedule for you."

She beamed at him, for offering to help her out, a smile of bright eagerness and gratitude. And his honest smile made her feel good, deep inside, to know that she'd helped him bring it out, even though she wasn't sure what it was that had done so. "Ah yeah. I'd never have been able to afford one, let alone a gym membership, so I get that." She sighed and shrugged a little, then stretched her arms forwards, fingers woven together and palms out towards the room. "Pity though, you clearly know what the ******** you're doing."
Her eyes lit up at his suggestion. "Ah? Yeah that would be amazing. I've made use of the treadmill, but I'm not stupid enough to try things I don't know how to use." Her expression was full of gratitude to her new friend. "Seriously, thank you." She paused, then tilted her head. "Do you mean now, or later? I'm good with either, just don't want to make you leave your room if you're comfortable." Not a lie, but not a total truth. She didn't want to force him out, but she didn't want to see him mired in whatever had him unhappy.

Her consideration gave him pause--he didn't want to leave his room, but he did want to help her out. He made to ask Zeph if she had anything to say about it but she made his stance clear.
"Uh, tomorrow? Gotta be morning. It's the best time to work out from my experience." He was pretty solid on that so if she wasn't a morning person then she was s**t out of luck if she wanted to work with him. If they were in a normal situation where work schedules varied and there was very little wiggle room, but they weren't and he didn't think she could nor would he let her come up with any excuses to give him for not being able to wake up early in the morning for an hour-long workout. "Deal?"

She watched him consider it, her eyes studying his face. She hid her disappointment that he wasn't going to be ready to leave his room, but she understood, too, why that might be the case. Whatever had him in it's grip, she might not know, but she knew that it could be hard to shake.
When he asked to go in the morning, she gave a sigh, but nodded. "It's been nice, not having to get up for things like work hella early, I am not even going to lie about it, but if that's the best time for it, then it is what it is." She responded, philosophically. She gave a slow shrug. "Deal, of course. You're goin' outta your way to help me. I'd have to be an a** to try to make it more difficult for you, dude." She gave him a grin, and a laugh. "Is this going to be every day, or is this the kind of thing that's best done every other day or so?" She was going to be getting up early most days, anyways, because it's easier to keep to a schedule, but knowing she might have an indulgent day or two once in a while would be good.

"I'm not a morning person either, but morning workouts are my everyday thing. I knock out again right after if I don't have duty or somethin' though."
With the deal set up he relaxed again, leaning back against his bed and getting comfortable. "Every other day would probably be alright. You get exercise from training and all the other s**t on the other days so everyday might be overkill." Rhys gave pause, and then gestured at himself again. "Unless you're me. I work out everyday 'cause it's just how I do." He chuckled then closed his eyes, a deep sigh leaving him as his mind settled once again on what day it actually was. The break from thinking about it was nice, but now that the fitness talk was more or less over he couldn't help going right back to it. Pretty soon his smile had faded and he was back to the listless sack of meat Seren had found when she first got there.

"All right, good to know, on all of that. I look forwards to seeing you in the morning."
When he slumped back into himself, though, her eyes went sad with concern about him. She had no idea what to do now, and she desperately wanted to pull him back out of himself... But she didn't know how. She sat forwards, watching her friend with quiet concern, before she decided to ask "You hungry? Wanna go snatch some grub? If there's any decent ingredients in the kitchens, I could probably make something decent... I've been cooking for a few years now." She had to at least try. If it didn't work, she'd ask about the tat... Then give up, because she had no other ideas left. Maybe if she'd known him better, longer, she might have a clue as to how to help, but at the moment, she was fishing in the dark.

Long ago was sort of what was swirling around in his head until she asked him about food, which successfully piqued his interest again. Not as much as fitness had, but he could definitely eat. Rhys blinked at her for a moment then nodded and straightened himself out first before eventually standing up altogether. He offered her a hand up once he was on his feet.
"If you cook I won't say 'no'. I don't know jack s**t 'bout most of the kitchen though, so. Might be all you workin'. Just saying."

Getting his attention again felt kind of like a little Christmas present to herself, succeeding this way. When he offered his hand to her, she accepted because, frankly, it was easier getting off the floor in a skirt with assistance. "Thanks..." She stretched a little, and then tilted her head at his outfit. "You fine going out like that, or you want me to wait while you pop something on? I don't care, but if you do, I'm fine waiting."
His comment about not knowing jack s**t made her chuckle, and then sigh. "D'ya like Korean food? I can do some decent pajeon if you want, and they have the ingredients. If not, I'll have to see what I can make with what they got." She sighed and looked at the wall, not wanting to talk about how much she missed the pajeon her dad used to make, before they stopped feeding her.

Once she was up he went and picked up his coat 'cause he had a feeling it was raining balls outside still, but other than that he was fine. His pajama bottoms were the slim fitting kind so they didn't really drag on the floor or anything. Quickly he slipped on some socks and then his shoes and he was ready. Minus the bed head but that was whatever.
"The hell is pajeon?" he asked, brow quirked as he looked over at her before heading for the door. "And honestly, if it's edible then I'll eat it. I think the last time I ate was yesterday."

She nodded, watching him, and popped the hood up on her coat, given that the rain seemed to NEVER STOP since she'd arrived, and lord was she tired of it. She opened the door when he was ready, and slipped out, then waited for him on the other side of it.
When he emerged, she answered his question. "It's a traditional Korean dish. It's kind of a savory pancake? Uses green onions and some other stuff. You can make a dipping sauce to go with it, using chili peppers and soy and some other stuff." His comment about not eating since yesterday earned him a SERIOUSLY mighty frown, and a gentle whap on the arm. "Hey. You need to take better care of yourself. Not eating regular meals is bad for your body."

Rhys followed her out, closing and locking the door behind him. He ran a hand through his hair to try and get it a little more under control just before they started walking toward the stairs. "Missing a meal or two won't kill me," he said, ruffling his hair up a bit since it didn't seem to want to be tamed. "But also that pancake sounds like the ********' bomb. Let's do it."
Ultimately he gave up and threw his hood on. "********' hair. Seriously. You know, sometimes I swear I wanna ********' just be bald. Only thing stoppin' me is I might actually go bald when I'm older so I gotta ********' enjoy this hair now." A snort as he lifted his hands up to do air quotes. "'Enjoy.'"

She grinned up at him, and said "You'll see. Korean food is the bomb. DO you like things hot hot hot, or mild?" She wrinkled her nose at him, and added "I personally love hot food, but I know a lot people don't, so I want to know how spicy or not to make the dipping sauce."
She patted his shoulder, and said "Be glad it's as short as it is then. Can you imagine how long I have to take on mine?"

"I like food with a kick, but not somethin' that'll knock me out. So probably somewhere between those two?"
Rhys shoved his hands in his pockets as they went along, the prospect of food doing his mood quite a bit of good. It also helped that he wasn't by himself, and that the food that he was about to eat probably wasn't going to taste like cardboard or something equally as shitty and inedible. He glanced over at her hair when she mentioned it and frowned. "Too long," he said. "I'll never understand how the hell girls deal with it. Least if I had a comb I could get my s**t mostly taken care of. But that," and he exaggeratedly gestured at her hair. "I wouldn't know the first ********' thing to do about it."

"All right, I think I get you." She paused, then in a teasing voice said "But are you suuuuuuuuure you don't want it dialed all the way up to 11?" Before laughing and patting him on the shoulder in a companionable way.
She grinned at him, much amused by his view on it. "It does take a lot of time to brush, not going to lie." She paused, then looked in the exact opposite direction from him as she continued, her smile having disappeared and her voice a little more quiet. "It's... it's worth the upkeep. It makes me feel not ugly." She kept her voice steady, at least, which amazed her, and then she coughed, and looked up at the rain to make it look like, in case some tears occurred, rain on her face. She hated how easily it was to swoop into a topic like this, and was often confused by how she found herself admitting this stuff to someone she didn't know that well. "So, ya know, I take the time to care for it." She managed to give him a grin that was semi genuine. "But yeah, hair like yours doesn't need as much maintenance. You do at least like... use good shampoo and conditioner?"

There was a change in her tone that got his attention, but much in the same way she didn't prod him about his mood earlier he didn't say anything about noticing. "You're not ugly," he simply said, and in a very matter-of-fact kind of way. He would have said more but didn't feel he needed to so he stopped there. Also, he didn't realize how bad his pajama bottoms were at keeping his legs warm. "And yeah, I use some decent stuff for my hair."
"Shitshitshitshitshit," he cursed through gritted teeth when a chilly breeze blew past them. "I wouldn't say no to something stupid hot if we stay out here much longer. Wanna book it?"
