Lighten up. He heard it too often, but it was easier said then done.
"But it is. It's ratios and asking every person. How do you not come off as completely desperate then? You only get one chance. If I followed your advice it just be ....just be..."
"Just me going hey guys..." He said, opening his arms to the pair of em. "You don't look like horse faces and don't have the personalities of a wet sponge. Wanna ********?"

The laughter was subsiding, at least, in the face of Ever's genuine attempts to offer helpful advice. His gaze flicking between either blonde before finally settling on Melvin again. "You're thinking about it too much, or all wrong." Fingers left Ever's back, but only so he could sling his arm around the other man's shoulders. "And if I were you, I definitely wouldn't use that as my opening line. Not likely to get many bites that way." He took another puff from the cigarette and handed it back, head tipping up so the smoke rolled up into the grey sky above them. Then Zeke turned his gaze back to Ever, brows arched. "What was it you said to me?" There were a number of things, and probably any one of them wouldn't be bad to use on someone else.

"Honestly, I don't think it was that far off from 'you're not too bad looking, want to ********?'" It could have been teasing, except Ever sounded very...honest. Surprisingly serious. His eyes were still on Melvin, instead of on Zeke draped around him, and stayed there as he beckoned him closer with two crooked fingers. "What would you even do if I said yes, Melvin?" It was a little teasing, too, but there was genuine curiosity behind that.

He moved closer, not at all liking the way Ever was teasing, and reached out for the smoke and flicked it out into the rain. "Yeah, it's a s**t opening. Care to guess WHY I'm asking for help? And you two shouldn't smoke. It smells awful and ruins your clothes." He stated, bristling as the general unhelpfulness of the pair of them while they had spent the entire time more or less groping each other in his presence.
"If you said Yes I would wonder why your standards are so damn low." He said, wiping off his hand from where it touched the cigarette before reaching into his pocket and offering them both a mint because it just reeked of smoke.

Having not really anticipated the possibility of Melvin running their smoke, Zeke could do very little to prevent the other man from snatching it up and flicking out into the ran. It left him sighing, auburn brows creating over naked eyes as he stared back at the man. "Rude. Are you you this nice to everyone you try to flirt with, or just the ones actively trying to help you get laid?" He had more cigarettes, and he was strongly tempted to fish another out and light it up just to be obnoxious, but he really didn't want to run the risk of having that one stolen as well. He took the mint. "And besides, I really don't think it's his standards you have to be worrying about." It came with lifted brow and a pointed look, daring a challenge.

"You can't talk yourself down." Ever considered the mint between Melvin's fingers for just a moment -- and then, with a flicker of a smile, he tipped his head down to eat it out of Melvin's grasp, wet hair curling forward into his eyes. Teasing, he had to be, but it was still lingering, flirty. As he straightened, he crunched the mint between his teeth, speaking around it. "Just gotta act like you've got a right to be asking. Because you do."

"I'm sorry. I'm just frustrated and I'm feeling a bit out of my element at the moment so -" His eyes caught Ever dipping low and his eyes widened as his mouth nipped the mint out of his hand close to his fingers. In a instant his hand shot back, and the container of mints in his other hands shook out from the quick action all about before falling to the ground, leaving him with a near-empty contaniet. Both hands had been brought to his chest and he made a sudden motion for his pocket but stopped.
He mind followed and he knew he had reacted too quickly to Ever's hand feeding to smooth it over, and his hands went up to hold the contanier close to his chest again.
"Sorry." He managed, embarrassment, self-hatred, and panic seeping into his system. He didn't look at Zeke. It was the coconut all over again, and he didn't want the connection to be pointed out.
It was fine he told himself. It's why he stopped wearing gloves. It wasn't true, but he couldn't help during surprises and he wished he could take it back.
"Thunder.....spooked me." He lied. "I should be heading back.." The rain eas no lighter then the downpour from before.

Pale eyes widened just a touch as he watched Ever leaning over to catch the mint between his teeth, but it wasn't that blatant tease that Zeke found interesting--it was, and something curled low in the Mist's chest--but Melvin's reaction to that teasing. Deja vu...Lagertha merely hummed her assent, her own interest piqued. He hadn't realized it, but his hand had moved to curl in Ever's belt loop again. An automatic response to Merlvin's jerked reaction, ready to yank the other man back, just in case, but it wasn't needed, and the tension in his hand eased after a moment. "What's the rush?" He probed, head tilting slightly to one side.

For his part, Ever still looked relatively calm. He crunched the mint down to nothing, watching Melvin with his eyebrows raised and his expression more concerned than anything else. "I was teasing. You didn't think I was going to bite you, did you...?" The mints were soaked through, but still he crouched to gather them up, getting his own fingers hopelessly sticky.

"Oh, just that the weather isn't getting any better and....you two seem busy..." Holding belt looks and sharing cancer. They had offered his advice and he had been too high strung to really take it all in, and now he was ruining a easy-going mood which didn't help make friends in the long run.
As Ever brushed it off, moving down to pick up the candy, Melvin dropped down too. "Oh, no need to do that. It's not good anyways. They will just dissolve in the rain. You'll just get your hands gross." He said, not wanting him to try and bother with it and at most try to collect a lot of wet, muddy mints. Setting a hand on his shoulder, he reached into his pocket to fish out a tissue pack, offering it to him to wipe his hands.
"Sorry. That was on me. You just surprised me."

The tension broke, and Zeke relaxed almost instantly, his hand falling away from Ever's jeans to let him drop down to pick up the mints. "It's fine. You don't have to rush off, though. You're going to get soaked." It was a bit nicer than was normal for Zeke, especially for someone he hadn't gotten himself attached to, but maybe he actually appreciated Melvin. Just a little. He knew his way around the waters surrounding the island, he knew how to dive. He was a valuable contact to maintain. And fairly amusing as well. He watched as Melvin crouched down as well, his hand going to Ever's shoulder as he pulled out a tissue for the other man to clean his hands on.

"Your sudden niceness is making me uncomfortable, Melvin." His tone was dry, though, teasing, as he took the tissues to swipe ineffectually at his fingers. After a moment, he held his hands out into the rain instead, letting it wash over them. He was going to need soap to get them really clean. "Are you having a breakdown? Does a little flirting get under your skin that much?" He flicked his eyes to the hand on his shoulder, briefly, and then sideways to check on Zeke.

The fact Ever looked at the hand on his shoulder caused Melvin to pull it back, slowly rising up as he put the near empty mint container in his pocket. "I'm not having a breakdown over flirting. I - wait. You called that flirting? I didn't even know you were even interested. Give some warning. That's your opener?! I thought you were direct. Sure, that's kind direct but I thought you verbalized it." Though despite Ever even saying he was flirting, it felt more like a test than anything else.
Failed.
So helpful.

Zeke frowned thoughtfully as Ever looked back at him, and gave a very small shrug. He hasn't figured out how to decode the other Life either, and he'd even had more time at it. "Flirting can be entirely none verbal, you know.". It seemed like that should have been a given, but perhaps not. "That was definitely flirting."

It wasn't going to help that Ever laughed -- surprised out of him more than anything else, swiping still-sticky palms against his knees as he straightened up to stand. He was soaked, now, and gross, and had only had about half a cigarette, and there was no way he was going to be able to go back to work now. But he didn't seem to mind any of that, not really. "Melvin. Jesus Christ. Maybe I need to take you to a club or something, too, get you some proper practice..."
