He watched as she settled in beside him, arm at the ready to drape over her as it tended to do. Hydra had other things on her mind, however, and his breath was stolen away for a moment as she hopped into his lap, pressing tightly against his chest once more as if she were afraid he'd fade away.
The words were mouthed against his throat and although she whispered quietly, they were a scream in his head. The unavoidable truth that he'd done his damnedest to run away from - to deny. That it wouldn't affect their relationship, that they were simply really good friends and that the beautiful, wonderful senshi wasn't falling head over heels for a man who couldn't return the same affections.
As his hands returned to stroking her hair, the truth hit him like a wave of cold water.
This wasn't right. He couldn't do this to her, string her along as if he remained unaware of how she felt. She was right about their separation...but for the wrong reasons.
He couldn't be with her anymore. He couldn't, in good conscious, continue to see her and pretend like everything remained normal. Unchanged. That she wasn't willing to drop everything for him, risk everything for him, doing anything he asked because she loved him.
She deserved so much more.
Pulling back from her, his hands moved to cup her cheeks and tug the young woman's face away from his neck. Tears still streaked her cheeks and it broke his heart to see her so distraught, but.. she was right. She'd always been right.
"I'm sorry, Hydra."
His voice was above a whisper, but remained quiet as he pressed a kiss against her cheek, then moved to kiss the other. Her skin was soft, salty from the tears, but warm and enticing. More enticing than it should be. "I'm so sorry that it has to be like this."
He kissed her nose, her chin and then pressed a kiss against her lips, allowing them to linger there as he knew what he had to do.
Seal's Eye had to be the one to say goodbye.

She wanted to stay like this; pressed against Seal's Eye's chest with his arms a security blanket around her because she could pretend like nothing had to change. She could believe that they were safe and that nothing would jeopardize their relationship or risk their lives when they were here on this serene beach and he was with her.
She could pretend that she was still just dreaming of him and that falling in love with a dream wasn't a problem.
Pretending would only get her as far as he allowed her to stay in his lap and to keep her in this place that she thought maybe only he could access. Maybe, just maybe things would be okay if they just came here...
Sealie was drawing her face back in her eyes blinked confusedly at him. "Sealie?" His nickname fell from her lips easily, his hands stroking her hair and his lips pressing against her skin. Lashes fluttered and she felt her breath shake out of her, hands slipping down to grasp at his shoulders like he was the only thing keeping her tethered.
"What are you--" He stole the words from her mouth with the press of his lips against her own. The kiss was an unexpected thing at first, but predictable in the end when she realized that he only kissed her when she was in pain and hurting. That didn't matter though, because she was kissing him back with her fingers making their way to the nape of his neck to press against the flesh when she leaned back to draw him forward.
Deep down, she knew that this was goodbye and that he wouldn't have kissed her if it hadn't been but she didn't care.

He knew better, but it was the only gift he had to offer. Hydra was a wonderful person who deserved wonderful things, but she wanted more than he had to give and it hurt him to think about how someone could long for him, unrequited. It was his fault and he was going to allow her the opportunity to move on.
Warm lips were responding to his and he cradled her head against his as they kissed. It wasn't a passionate kiss, but sweet and loving because as much as he was not in love with her, he truly did love his companion. Seal's Eye loved her so much that it hurt to say goodbye, hurt to think of spending days without his best friend by his side to confide in, hurt to think of a world without the bright-eyed and wistful Hydra in it.
After what felt like a lifetime, he slowly pulled away once more. Forehead to forehead, his thumbs brushed across her cheeks one last time before he exhaled slowly.
"Whatever happens, I want you to know that I'll always be there." His words were drawn out, pronounced. "I'll always be looking out for you and your dreams, my Lady."

She could have kissed him forever if he had let her, but he was drawing away and she leaned into the forehead press. Trying not to fall apart again, Hydra took a shaky breath.
"I know you don't love me." She admitted because she wanted to say it all before she didn't get another chance. "That you don't love me the way I love you and...and that's okay." It wasn't changing how she felt about him even if she wished that it did. From subspace she pulled the trinket she'd been carrying around for him but was too shy to give it to him. But now, as it was likely the last time she'd get to see him like this she wanted to give it to him.
Like the one she gave to Bazzi, it was a handmade corded necklace with her world's symbol dangling from the center.
"I know," she mumbled, knowing that all she would have to do was beg for him and he would find her but that was the problem wasn't it? He wasn't part of the Negaverse and as long as she was...there was no way for them to have a relationship - romantic or otherwise - without it being too dangerous.
Her love and desire for him to be safe meant that she had to give him up. She'd deal with it, somehow.
"Just-- stay safe okay? Please, please don't make me regret this."

He took the necklace, gingerly palming the symbol in his hand before releasing his grip on the senshi in his lap. The cord was brought to his face and he pressed his lips quietly across the metal surface before taking a moment to wrap it around his neck, tying the ends. The necklace slipped beneath the fabric of his tunic, hidden away from the rest of the world - just like their friendship was doomed to be. Hidden from those who wouldn't understand and those who would refuse to understand.
She'd acknowledged the fact that he failed to love her, as she did him. He felt ashamed - there was no reason under the blessed sun above that he shouldn't be falling in love with her. She was wonderful, she was perfect.
But she wasn't Aurora.
"Thank you. I will wear it and think of you." The words felt empty in his heart, but he continued to smile. If it was to be the last time for them to see one another, he wanted to ensure that she would remember him as that: smiling. Happy. Doting. Her Sealie, now and forevermore.
Leaning forward, he gently removed her to stand up on the sands, feet still bare and sinking. A tug further and she was standing beside him, his arms wrapping around her as he embraced her for one final time.
"You will always be my Dream Maiden," he whispered softly, the world around them evaporating. In a moment, they'd returned to the fountain where the soft bubbling of water paled in comparison to the waves of the ocean that had been there only seconds earlier. "And I will never forget what it felt like to hold you in my arms, Lady Hydra."
Lips found her temple and as he pressed down gently, his form faded into shadows, leaving the senshi alone in the park as he returned to the world of dreams.

Hydra didn't let herself speak, too afraid that if she did that she would break and beg for him to stay even though she knew nothing good would come of it.
Instead, she let him pull her to her feet and hug her tightly all the while keeping her eyes closed with shaky breaths. The senshi knew that if she opened her eyes she would see the pain he was carefully masking and she would crumple. For him, she could be strong enough to let him walk away. It would hurt, losing someone always hurt but maybe they'd still have dreams.
Maybe.
The brush of lips were so brief against her skin she thought she imagined it but then his warmth was gone and she was left shivering in the park. Jade eyes blearly opened, vision obscured by the tears that now flowed freely. She didn't bother to try and find somewhere secluded before she teleported back to as close to home as possible.
Once inside she climbed the stairs with heavy steps until she was crawling into bed. There was a half written text typed up and almost sent to Akio that read Can you come over I it was unfinished when she accidentally hit send, curling up into the seal plushie her boyfriend had won for her on one of their first dates.
