Tac was rather content with the current task; him overseeing and reading, and her sitting quietly. He was debating how long he should leave her to sit when he heard the soft murmuring. Glancing over, he cocked his head curiously. Her focus did seem quite centered. That was good.
Wait, she was focusing.. with a prayer? He wasn't able to hold back an impulsive snort of sour amusement, though he was loath to disturb the girl despite how silly she sounded to him. If a little prayer was what got her to find the magic within herself, it was at least a starting point. Being around a certain priest had taught him tolerance in the face of another's faith. So long as they didn't try working him over, he was tolerant. Pretty much.
A completely inexperienced student that apparently lived with strong faith had been dropped on him. Figured.

As her internal energy coalesced, Jacline stirred. A soft, ethereal glow, white-blue, had just begun to gather around her hands visibly. Of what, she wouldn’t have been able to say, though her eyes had been shut. As they fluttered back open, however, the energy dimmed, and faded. Her brow pinched as she observed her fingers.
Her gaze flit in her ‘teacher’s’ direction.
“I do not know if I’ve done anything. I thought that I felt…” She flushed. “But nothing came of it. Perhaps I do not have any magic.”

When Jacline spoke up again, Tac closed his book and stood. "Do not put so much weight into your first attempt to call upon what you might have. Even the slightest stir can show the potential within." Pursing his lips a moment, he finally gave the girl a firm look. "Perhaps you will have better luck if you focus on the magic that comes from within you, rather than hoping some deity will give it to you. ..But that is probably enough for today. Take the rest of the evening to reflect on what you felt today, and give it a fresh start tomorrow."

Jacline’s brow furrowed, frustrated enough as it was, and then, “Perhaps you will have better luck if you focus on the magic that comes from within you, rather than hoping some deity will give it to you.” She turned an indignant look on the boy.
“The gods provide everything,” she quipped. “Why would you tempt fate referring to them in such a manner? I am not calling upon ‘some’ deity, these are our gods. And I am not hoping they will give me magic, only trying to find-”
But, she found her eyes were already stinging with her indignance and abashment, and she tipped her gaze away and down before any hints of dampness became evident. She had attempted to do what she could, but without more specific guidance she didn’t know where to begin and apparently every attempt at guessing was incorrect and in vain. The jab to her pride regarding her failure alone was one thing, but she would not make a further fool of herself in front of this disrespectful and confusing student simply because she was poor at holding herself together.
“I will inform Master Tallart that I have no magic and lessons should be suspended,” she murmured in stiff response. “Thank you for your time.”

Brow cocking doubtfully, Tac expressed maintained its deadpan neutrality as he was chewed into. Yup, definitely a girl of resounding faith, like most of the others on this island. Hearing the arguement cut short was a surprise though, and he found himself watching the girl curiously as she collected herself.
No magic? Really? "I feel that it would be best for you to continue practicing, but it is your choice." It was no skin off his nose. After all, he had a practice to run! If Dr. Nelroot wants the girl so bad, he could try teaching her himself. "If you do decide to return, perhaps another doctor will have better luck with you than I. Good day to you." Hopefully there was time to get a couple of his clients back under his care for the day, now that he was done with what he felt had amounted to little more than babysitting.. He was a doctor, not a teacher!
LucidStreaming Tac has no tact. Thanks for the rp!
