She didn't look at him, barely acknowledging the way he was rubbing up against her legs and instead drawing her arms more tightly around herself.
"He's my best friend Bob," she admitted quietly, sniffling as she wiped at her face. Tears were gathering but hadn't fallen just yet. "I don't want to talk about it, okay?" She sounded mildly defensive but mostly just sad. "Whatever he is doesn't matter."
She had to give him up, she knew she did, but that didn't make the idea hurt any less. "You won't have to worry about him okay? So please, just please drop it." Her voice cracked and the tears started to fall despite her attempts.

The way she said you don't have to worry about it set off alarms in his head, but the way she was practically falling to shambles right there at the window had his little cat heart breaking at the sight.
It was for the best, then, if she was going to take care of the matter - best friend or not, he wasn't on their side in the large scheme of things. Rory's heart was wide and pure, accepting all sorts of nonsense that probably should have been better off being left out on the street.
Y'know, like himself.
Purring and cuddling didn't seem to be working and Bob had a feeling that fetching her any sort of dead creature or trash jewelry like his valentine's gift would probably fall on deaf ears (eyes?) as well. No, he'd done his damage and gotten his concerns vocalized... and now there was nothing but a crying, heartbroken teenager staring off into space at the only exit he had available to use. Augh.
Tucking his tail in between his legs, the large Mau muttered a soft, "okay" in acknowledgement before hunkering down and crawling beneath the girl's bed, hiding himself away with whatever forgotten remnants had found their way into the darkness below the mattress.
