Sooo. I think I'm done raving about kinesiology tape. xD
I did a lot of research this morning.
Apparently it really does help pain. Like an advil. It masks the pain. If you really can't do anything about your pain, it's probably better than nothing. But it can also pose a risk. Your body is telling you that you have pain in an area for a certain reason. Masking the pain you think, okay, I'm fine. Your body was letting that area rest and compensating elsewhere. But now your body doesn't feel the pain so it's putting the pressure/wear back on the area that hurts.
I think for me with fibro it probably isn't as big a risk. I'm in pain for no good reason mostly. There isn't anything seriously misaligned in my case. Misaligned enough for pain, but not really injury. I'm not on any restriction now.
There is a lot of mixed studies on the KT. Some say they have proof it helps with pain and some say it's a placebo. Some can explain how it works, and some can say that isn't accurate. xD
I'm really anti meds and it seems to me it isn't gonna do worse than a pill would. But if you do have an underlying problem, you aren't helping it and continuing to mask the problem only makes it worse.
So I'm iffy on it now. I dunno. I know I won't be recommending it anymore and probably won't use it as much. But I probably won't stop using it for good unless I run out and decide by then it's a waste. It really seems to help me for 1 full day, then when I wake up it feels uncomfortable. It didn't do that before. xD But then there's wondering if that's the placebo wearing off. I really hate to think I can fall for a placebo but it doesn't reflect intelligence. Anyone can fall for a placebo, the mind is a tricky thing.
So I'd just be cautious, weigh the pros and cons and look into it for yourself.
Sorry if I gave you some kinda bad advice before. sad My chiro really thinks KT is amazing and he had me convinced. But hey I've had docs do worse. xD I definitely still recommend Epsom salt baths. I'd avoid lavender cause there's some controversy on that when pregnant. Actually you probably should avoid most essential oils until after the baby is done breastfeeding. I know for sure Lavender and peppermint should be avoided, cause I wanted to see if those could help you. But looks like no. sad I never realized natural things could hurt a baby like that. Some people of course say it's fine. xD Everything is just so up in the air in the health field, isn't it? You'd think we'd know more about humans health by now.
