"Fish... I can do fish." He knew where they were going now. "I myself prefer fruit and vegetables as well." He smiled. "I will eat fish and other seafoods on occasion." He listened as Zaris wanted to eat something too. "We can do this." After a short walk, they approached a paved walkway, and on one side sat a small cart, the demon inside was cleaning some utensils. Avalon gave Sui a reassuring smile before crossing the pathway to stand at the counter. He ordered a few items for them. 4 fish tacos. They were small, and two could easily satisfy a person. He figured Zaris could have one, Sui could have one, and Avalon himself would have one. The 4th, he would offer to the other, not knowing if both Suiravi and Zaris would want full meals. The hybrid didn't know the two shared a stomach. He also ordered rice and beans, but requested they not be spicy. The Demon obliged, and went about to prepare everything. He tossed some fish on the grill, not batting an eye as a lick of fire sputtered up as the food began to cook.

Sui considered and then said "I think I have had some fruit and it is good, but there are only so many things that grew in my homeland." Sui said since it was the only home he knew before being brought here. Sui looked at Avalon "What sort of food is best at this place you eat?" Sui asked curiously. Suiravi screamed and jumped back from the fire terrified it was the one thing that the elders in his village had drilled into his brain since he was an infant. Fire killed. Fire was the destroyer of his people. Sui wanted to put himself in a shadow box and never come out, he should be running away but he was frozen with fear looking at the object of horror for his people.

Avalon was about to explain what he had ordered to Sui, but then the Shade gave a terrified cry. Without thinking, Avalon put his arm around the smaller male, putting himself between Suiravi and the food cart. He didn't know what had scared him... was it the demon? Or was it.... wait, he had said before he didn't like fire. He placed a hand on Sui's head as the other held him around the shoulders. "It won't hurt you." He promised. "It is simply cooking our meal." The demon gave them a curious look, but had heard about the swamp people and their dislike of fire, so kept to himself. "Remember, I am your escort... I will protect you. I will not bring you someplace I think is unsafe." Sure, Sui had no real reason to believe him, seeing as they just met, and it seemed the Shade didn't care for outsiders. But Avalon meant what he said.

Suiravi wanted to cry Avalon said there was nothing to be afraid of "But but but they said it was a killer how can we trust it??" Sui snuggled into Avalon's big arms, it felt like a good place to hide. "I I I don't know." Suiravi said his tone very fearful he didn't think he could eat with fire so near by he needed to get away from the fire. So he could feel calm again. A life time of fear was built around not trusting fire, don't go near fire, don't touch fire. Fire bad. It was a very simple concept. Sui wondered if the nightmares and daydreams might decide they didn't like shades and burn them to the ground again. He shivered in Avalon's arms.

"It is true... fire can cause harm." He said softly, now stroking Sui's hair to soothe him. "But it can also do go. It provides warmth..." Though seeing as how the nightmare was covered in fur, he supposed he didn't need the warmth. "...and gives light to those who can't see in the dark. It can cook foods to make them taste differently too." He explained as their order was plated. Avalon pulled away just slightly, still holding Sui's shoulders, and gently touched his cheek. "I'm sorry that I put you in an uncomfortable situation like this. You said you didn't like fire earlier, and I was careless." It had been a small flame, and gone in an instant, but clearly Sui was truly terrified. There was no condemnation or judgement in Avalon's voice as he spoke to Sui, only apology and the desire to better understand his new friend. He gave the Shade a reassuring smile before looking over his shoulder. "The fire is gone." Well, it couldn't be seen under the grill at least. "And our food is ready. We can go sit by the trees in peace." He looked back at Sui. "Will you be ok if I let you go?"

Sui blinked and cuddled up to his tail, "Tails and blankets provide warmth. Magic can provide light and so can things made of science and magic." Sui frowned wondering if food really was good when it was cooked by fire. His people didn't do much with fire. Since it was a cultural fear. Suiravi shook his head "You could not have predicted the fire would try to attack us." Sui sighed out when Avalon said the evil fire had gone away. Sui nodded and pulled away watching carefully to make sure the evil fire did not return to attack them.

Smiling, Avalon touched his cheek before turning to gather their food. He picked up the cardboard boxes with their food and lead the way away from the food cart. He brought them into a wooded area where there were no other people. Avalon chose a large tree with deep roots and soft grass around it. He settled down and waited for Sui to join him before opening the box, displaying the carefully prepared tacos. The tortillas were fried and crispy, and filled with the grilled fish and sweet greens. "Ta-da!" He presented it to Sui. The fish had a sweet sauce on it to really bring out the flavor. "I hope this is something you enjoy." He wanted it to be worth the fright he'd given the poor man. He picked up one of the tacos before setting the box between them. "And we have rice and beans here." He opened the second box to show the rest of the food.

Sui snuggled his face into Avalon's hand taking in the comfort as Avalon went to get their food. He looked curiously at the box of food that Sui's tail tried to eat the box food and all but Sui pushed him away "Don't be rude." He told his tail who whined at him. "You get the same food I do silly tail." Sui sniffed the taco before taking a bite. His eyes widened at the loud crunch sound in his ears. Sui jumped and grabbed hold of Avalon thinking there was danger. "What was that??" Suiravi asked in a panicked before he realized it was just the food. He tried another bite the food was still a lot louder than his sensitive ears were used to. Normally his food wasn't noisy.

He couldn't help it. Sui's reaction was just... so adorable that Avalon giggled as he jumped up. "This... is a tortilla shell. It's crunchy because it's cooked." He didn't know that Shades had sensitive hearing. "How does it taste?" He asked with a smile, then looked at Zaris. "...and would... he like to eat one too? There is enough for all of us, though I would suggest eating slowly since you're not used to this kind of food." He took a bite of his own taco and hummed in appreciation. It was sort of a guilty indulgence. He loved when he didn't have to cook, but didn't eat out that often.

Sui looked up at Avalon's giggle, he supposed it was kinda funny so he laughed too. Then he thought about the question. How did it taste. "I like it. The cooked fish is surprisingly yummy. I find it very strange that my people's enemy can do something useful." Sui narrowed his eyes still wondering if the fire was trying to trick him somehow, a fire couldn't be trusted after all. "Zaris can have some, he has different tastes than I do he will eat something too sweet that they like, and it will give me a tummy ache. We share one tummy, so I can't let Zaris eat everything they want or I will be very sick." Sui said firmly, he had to keep Zaris in check or suffer the results.

"I'm glad." finished off the taco he had, they weren't that large after all, which is why he could stand to eat two, then held up a second taco to offer to Zaris. "Do you want to try one?" Sui and Zaris were two different beings, but at the same time they were the same. "Or would you prefer some of the rice and beans?" He looked at the second box. He should have asked for separate boxes for each of them, but at least there were two forks. Sharing food was never a huge issue to him, he did it all the time with Ten, though that was kind of different. "I'm glad I got enough for two... and not three."

Sui smiled he was glad to, this story had been a little bit rocky at times, but Suiravi felt like there might be a happily ever after for them some day, but for today Sui was content being with Avalon. "I don't want to take your food from you." That seemed really rude. So Sui took a taco and fed it to Zaris it went to both their tummies but Sui didn't have to hear the crunch sound in his head and ears. "So what do you do Avalon?" Suiravi asked curiously he hadn't learned much about Avalon yet, but he wanted to very much. "Do you have any family? My parents were lost long ago I was raised by others in my village." Sui said not like it was sad but just a part of his story.

"Well... I lived underground with the sluagh for much of my life. When we and the cherubs made ourselves known to the world, I came to Below with others... Ah... and..." He blushed a little. "I met someone I care for deeply. An Elf/Fallen man. He is quite shy and unsure of himself, but he's very kind." He pondered how much to tell him. He may as well be perfectly honest. "He is not... the family type, though we have 2 sons. I know he loves them, but he doesn't love himself, and so can't express how he feels towards others." He looked down at his food a little sadly. "I think you'd like him though. He's kind, and a wonderful singer." Avalon was very fond of him, but Ten wasn't... ready for commitment yet. "And I've adopted a young imp son as well. I love my family. So I... spend my time looking after my sons, waiting for them after school... talking to Ten, trying to meet other people..."

Sui listened to Avalon's tale of his life, and then he frowned when he got to the part about Ten and their kids. "Oh, you're already mated with children." his tone was disappointed. He thought that the choice of a mate that wasn't good with family was a foolish one, but it wasn't Sui's place to judge who Avalon chose as a mate. Suiravi smiled "I would love to meet your mate and family, as long as it's no more than them to many beings are scary." Sui said softly. "I would like to hear your Ten sing." Suiravi said softly, he did his best to hide his disappointment that Avalon was taken, he didn't want to lose Avalon as a friend and protector. "I hope I can find a mate like you someday."

"I am not sure mate is the term we would use. not yet. I love him, yes, but... we are not mated yet. I'm not sure if Ten will ever settle... not for someone like me. But, that is ok. I have our sons, and I have Arch, and friends like you." He smiled at Sui. They sat and talked for a while, turning the conversation to lighter topics. Books and Sui's righting in particular. And when they had finished eating, Avalon was more then happy to escort Sui back to his home. He gave the other his phone number... he may live in the woods, but he wasn't completely out of touch, and told Sui to call him any time. With that, they parted ways.
