She considered him, considered his offer. Pythia might be new to this whole magic thing, but she recognized drive and ambition in others. she had it in spades, herself. It wasn't always a bad thing, but the wording of his promise- the fact he was asking it of her now, when she was still so clearly a child to the scheme of things...
It made her think of her father. Much as she loved Arolon, her father was a flawed man who equivocated far, far too much for his own good. It was why she had gotten into Poli-Sci, intending to go into communications, or campaign management. It was that or law- she had an occasional nose for bullshit. And with the fact he reminded her of her father?
When she glanced up at him through mascara'd lashes, she wondered if her dilemma was written there. "I suppose that would depend on what you have for me," she countered. Pythia didn't like the wording, but of yet she couldn't see a trap- any reason why he would request such an oath of her.
"So long as your goals do not harm me or mine, I don't see why we couldn't live in peace. I'm just the new kid, after all." she smiled, eyes crinkling at the corners. "Unless you strike a blow aimed in my direction, you have no need to worry from me." It was a valid compromise, she thought. Giving up her claws, when she barely knew him?
She smiled, baring small, white teeth.

Not a lie, but hardly the breadth of the truth either. "As for my gift, my wonder holds many a relic from others, and I might share it with you, show you how it is we travel and like." He winked. "I also would be more than happy to teach you anything you might desire to know and within my skills to provide."

Lips pursed, bright teal eyes thinning in clear consideration. The royal, and the world we were once stationed upon. My duty. No, she still couldn't see any tricks or traps in his wording. Even more than that, the next words he spoke would have helped override the niggling feeling in the back of her mind of anything that might be off.
"I won't be the one sticking a knife in your back, Caesar," she said after a moment of consideration, "after all, looks like all I have is a frisbee." her joke was punctuated by a waggling of the disc.
"Teach me." her voice was bright, thick with ambition of her own. "I want to know everything about this... power." Pythia didn't bother to hide it- he'd know soon enough. "Where do we start."

Lacedeamon did not offer his hand, but rather a scroll. It opened to a blank portion before, word for word, their exchange appeared. A vow, an oath. "All fair exchanges come with contract." He even brought out a pen for her. "Just sign, and we'll be off. All my skills at your disposal."

Now that was a cool trick. Pythia reached out with one pale hand, tugging the scroll closer, bright teal eyes taking in the transcript of their conversation. Unembellished- that was nice.
Unless you strike a blow aimed in my direction, you have no need to worry from me. I won't be the one sticking a knife in your back, Caesar. It looked so unprofessional, on paper. So strange, some kind of magical contract.
"And what happens if this little contract is broken?" she asked him, taking the pen, but not signing. Not yet. "Signing an agreement with no terms and conditions, no visible fine print?"
She tried to make it sound jovial, but she wanted to know what he would do with it.
Almost as much as she ached to know what he could teach her, to show her this 'power' he spoke of.

He smiled. "A smart woman after my own heart. You break your vow, knowingly, your life is forfeit." He acted like that it was of no consequence. "Unless you betray me on purpose, nothing to be afraid of."

Your life is forfeit. No big, right? Pythia pressed the bridge of her nose between thumb and ring finger, two others still holding the pen he had passed her.
Bless. "You know the other person who goes around passing out magical contracts that result or come due around death is Satan, right?" she wasn't a religious person, but felt the need to point that out.
In paper, in wording was her condition. Unless you strike a blow aimed in my direction "Keep me out of whatever it is you're planning that you'd want me to sign this." her voice was flat, firm. And then she signed. "I've no intention of dying for anyone."

His laugh was ironic. Satan? He knew he was devilish but the devil himself? Hardly. "Idle hands do the devil's work. But-" His eyes focused as she signed, the scroll rolled back up and put away. "I try to be honest about what you sign. Nothing hidden, nothing to be gained really, just assurances. That said, I promised a few things did I not?" He held out a free hand. "Shall we?"

"Idle hands to do his work and idle lips to be his mouthpiece." It wasn't the exact quote, but as she scroll was put away and she passed him back his pen, she figured he wouldn't care. It was close enough to let him know she recognized the lines.
She supposed that whatever Lacedaemon was to anyone else right now, and whatever his plans for the future, for now he was her... teacher? Odd. "You did make some promises," she agreed, and her own soft hand reached out to grasp his, grip confident and unhesitating.
"A gift to aid me. Your skills at my learning disposal." Not the kind of promise she would forget. "Ready when you are."

His lips touched her hand, and her eyes lit with a slow pleasure, at his words more than anything else.
"I want it all," she told him, her voice lacking anything other than utter conviction. "I want to know where to begin, and then I want to be on top of the world. I'll let you point the way." For now.
