This felt nice. It was the perfect ending to a perfect evening, though when Evan mentioned he knife. …knives Tobias couldn’t stop the laughter from bubbling out of him again, the arm around the other male tightening gently. Reassuringly. “I don’t know, Ev. Fourteen inches, phew. I’m not quite sure I can compete with that. You like them long, don’t you buddy?”
He gave a wicked grin, to show that he was just teasing, and placed a piece of popcorn in Evan’s mouth. “We’re safe. Between me and your knives. We’re safe. Thank you for trusting me. And thank you for giving me a chance back at the library. Your friendship is one that is utterly worth having, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Quiet for a moment, Tobias gently rested his chin on Evan’s shoulder, sighing. “Your lips are soft too, so you have that going for you. Soft lips, and god like cooking skills. I think that’s a pretty good start on the road to normal, don’t you? Tonight’s been as good of a date as I’ve ever been on, and it wasn’t even a date, so points for that, too. I don’t know. You may think you have a long way to go before you’re whatever your expectations of normal are, but I think you’re well on your way to my expectations of normal, so, that’s saying something, isn’t it?”
Maybe he was going overboard with the compliments, but…he was actually feeling…a little…tiny…itty bitty bit guilty for scaring him so much.
Not that he would ever admit that. Ever.

Evan’s face twisted into one of slight discomfort—though mostly it was just more embarrassment. He didn’t have time to make a retort before Tobias pushed the popcorn into his mouth, but maybe that was for the best considering his track record with responses. Tobias had moved on to say something else by the time Evan swallowed, and he was glad that he’d waited. Compliments certainly helped float his boat, and on most days Evan felt like he was sinking. But, he felt safe. Even without Cambria and Zac here, he felt safe. Now, at least; his heart wasn’t pounding so hard he thought it would explode anymore. “Yeah,” he said after a few seconds. He didn’t try to push Tobias away or squirm at the comfort; he just held the popcorn a little closer. “…I guess that’s saying a lot. I’m…happy I met you. Even if you’re weird.”
He was teasing, that much was obvious; he even managed a smile. “So…thank you for not taking no for an answer. I guess I’ve started to feel more normal since I met you. I’ll have to make you something fancy to celebrate, maybe. You know. For friendship.”
You could never have too many friends. Even the kind that kissed you. Especially when they made you feel so good about yourself.
