companionship"I can still summon him. He's still there. It's getting harder." Jordan sat down and put his head in his hands. "There's nothing to fight here, but I can't stand the idea ..." overdueNoah looked startled, then relieved, perhaps ashamed. He fumbled for words, said after a few moments, "I guess I didn't forgive myself." He hesitated, then, "You didn't ask me any questions, with the ring."

Fisticuffs He didn't expect her to applogize back and hearing it somehow made things a bit more awkward. Standing there, he looked out at the water and then back at her.
"Mind if I sit? I'll try and behave."

wanderlust
Zane spent most of his time sleeping, because what else was there to do when you couldn't quite gauge the passage of time? But, on the occasions where he couldn't he wandered, looking for something to fill his time.
The island wasn't that big, but he still managed to find people he didn't really know.
He felt chatty, so when he found a girl sitting in the sand, he plopped himself next to her.

pint sizedIt had taken a while, but being on Deus had given Peyton a new perspective. She was still short, but as a hunter it really didn't seem to matter. She was as strong as her fellows, as fast (faster even, in some cases), and in some respects her small stature came in quite handy, Not usually for harvesting coconuts from hard to reach tree tops, though. Arching her back, she strained to curl her fingers around a coconut that was just barely out of her grasp. If she could just hook her fingers... "Got it!" companionship"I know what you mean." As much as she was trying not to let it show, Warrick's growing silence was incredibly worrying. She chewed at her lip for a moment, eyes dropping from him to the sand. "Do you..." A slight pause, as she took a breath. "Do you think we'll make it out of here?" overdueShe was watching his face, his reaction, though she didn't have a clue what she was looking for, or what she was hoping to see. Nothing really seemed to make her feel better about the whole thing. She might have let a lot of it go, but what he'd done had rekindled insecurities that were a lot harder to shake than the pain of a break up. "Did you want me to?" She'd thought about it, though hadn't known exactly what to ask him. Even if she could have thought something up, would she want the answer given in front of everyone else? "You didn't ask me any, either." She wondered if there were questions he'd had, but hadn't asked for similar reasons. fisticuffsThe question had her glancing up at him again, clearly surprised by the request. Usually they avoided each other. "Go ahead." There was an edge of curiosity, or maybe suspicion. wanderlustPeyton blinked as one of the newer trainees plopped down beside her--newer, though she supposed after so many months that wasn't quite right anymore. "Hi?" It was curious, and she'd offer over the coconut halve she had beside her thoughtlessly. Sharing was caring. "Zane, right?" They might not have ever formally met, but you could only go so long on a desert island, trapped with people, before you knew everyone's name.

Smudged Clean SlateHe was expecting her to tell him to ******** off, but instead she welcomed him instead. Slowly kneeling, he settled in to sit beside her. Of course not too close but not feet away either. A comfortable distance to assume they knew each other without any intent to murder the other.
He looked out into the ocean. He was quiet.
He was trying to be quiet.
He glanced to her and then back out into the ocean a few times.

Smudged Clean SlateThere was plenty of things on Melvin's mind, and that meant questions.
"Just...wondering........." He said, hesitant. Was this something he should ask? Well, it was already brought up with the truth ring.
".....so do you tell your boyfriends to punch you before sleeping with them?"

smudged clean slateHad she not already been expecting something along those lines that question would have been rather startling. As it was, the dainty Sun seemed more resigned about it than anything else. Considering their fight, and the nature of Melvin's questions, well. She didn't blame him for being curious. "No." She could have left it at that, and he might actually have left it alone, but that seemed somehow unfair. "I don't really...things don't get that violent, with them." Her lips pursed, and she looked back out at the waves. "It's not really something you just jump into, with a new relationship? Not if it's not the foundation." She frowned, finding it hard to explain.

Smudged Clean Slate
He stared back at her and looked back out into the ocean, but it was clear he was confused. Confusion only lead to one solution.
More questions.
"So you need to be with someone before you ask them if they want to rough you up? Work up to it? See if they are into it?"

pint sizedThis could become a habit. Another day, a stream of water; a week or two later and he could hoist her up to dig into a nest he'd spotted on a rocky outcropping, to pry out a couple of eggs. He wasn't much of a cook, but a thin stone over a fire would probably serve as a pan and they could eat scrambled eggs for dinner, instead of more coconuts. They could sprawl across the fire from each other to eat, the task made easier for the difference between them

fish aren't friends
"Just--peachy!" Perhaps that was the magic word. She saw a gout of blood in the water and laughed just a little too harshly as she snagged her prize: a fish the size of her hand, looking like a small pancake that had been squashed.
Nora held out her prize, sunburnt and increasingly freckled, and gave a toothy grin to Peyton. "Hungry?"

pint sizedThey seemed to make a good team. Ever was tall enough, thin enough, that he could slip between branches and palm fronds, and Peyton could climb easily once she was high enough to get decent hand holds. The eggs were a wonderful find, and if needed, she'd help to cook them on the rock, comfortable in a kitchen, and this was at least a little similar. She'd ask him questions, learning early on that simple was better, and it was best not to touch on anything too deep. Their conversations were light, easy things, and the company welcome. Ever was easy, in a way the no one else she talked to could be. fish aren't friendsPeyton winced as she saw the blood. Not seriously, but in that second hand way that folks did when they were watching a gory movie. "Nice shot." With a hammer, in water, it really was kind of impressive. Peyton didn't know a whole lot about the mechanics of things like spear or bow fishing, but she was pretty sure she'd heard, or seen, or read somewhere that the surface of the water messed with the way the sun shown through it... She didn't remember exactly what it was, but it had something to do with the fish not actually being precisely where they looked like they were supposed to be. When Nora offered to share it the petite Sun shook her head, smiling, before a loud growl from her stomach betrayed her. "It's your fish, you earned it."

companionshipJordan rubbed his hands over his eyes and visibly pulled himself together, taking a deep breath and forcing himself to stop worrying at Ferros's ring. "It's hard to keep hoping when nothing happens," he said. It wasn't an answer, not quite. overdueHe looked troubled, a little, still faintly guilty. "I don't know," he said after a moment. "I couldn't really think of anything to ask. Like, just stupid stuff. There's not a lot to ask that isn't embarrassing when you have to spill everything you really think about it. And there were a lot of people there." He hunched his shoulders a little. "I didn't want to embarrass you. Or anyone."

companionship"Yeah." There was a resigned feel to that one word. Hope was a hard thing to cling to. Peyton had learned that lesson a long time ago. overdueShe was still watching him, though at the mention of not wanting to embarrass anyone she'd drop her gaze. Noah had never been comfortable under scrutiny. "You can ask me now, if you want. I don't mind." It was all coming up anyways. For Melvin, for Al. Why not for Noah too? "Big or little, it doesn't matter."

companionshipJordan didn't respond to that. He sat there a while, keeping Peyton company, enough time for the shadows to shift under the palm trees, before he got up to leave. overdueNoah was only just starting to learn to examine himself. That, too, was uncomfortable, but he was beginning to understand that maybe it was needed, as well. He looked at his feet. They didn't have the truth ring now to compel answers out of either of them, and maybe that was a good thing and maybe it wasn't. He could ask questions, and he would have to trust that the answers were true. But he could do that, he thought. "Are ... are you okay?" he asked after a moment.
