"Maybe," Al mumbled a bit while rolling his eyes back to avert his gaze from Melvin's. "Still. It wasn't my fault. It wasn't anyone's fault. No her fault, no my fault, no Noah's fault. Sometimes s**t just gets messy. It doesn't explain why she's still got it out for me. She says she's moved on but doesn't act it."

"Hurt's hurt. Kinda lingers........a lot. Like hot tar." He said, and leaned back more against the tree and looked out.
"Surprised she didn't try and kill you at any point or fight you." Considering Peyton's admittance yesterday about how she felt while fighting Melvin, maybe she wanted to avoid associating anything remotely good with a person she hated. Then again, she didn't like Melvin either, so maybe that was more of a slip-up on her part during that one time.
"You two ever just....talk about it after or was the truth ring the first time you got into it?"

"I KNOW RIGHT?!" Al said in shock at her not trying to kill him. "She ******** gave me bandages man, BANDAGES."
At the question. Al froze and stumbled over himself while trying to talk and looked really confused. "I- I don't know. My s**t still has some foggy corners and she's one of them because she's not part of my life." He was pretty sure the answer was no though. "I guess it was the first time we ever talked face to face?"

"Well, not talking probably didn't help what is between you all. Has Noah talked to her since then?" He said, looking over at him. He didn't want to feel bad or even empathize with Peyton, but having someone misunderstand something, and to feel you had a chance in a relationship only to be made the bad guy once they left you was a hard hitting feeling that he didn't want to share in any degree with her experiences. However, having someone say they didn't know why she was angry was a bit bitter too.
"Seems she might have just decided to let go of that baggage. Still, if she did, might also be the best time to talk about it just to clear the air. That or leave it if you want. It's not like you need to be her friend either. Peyton's kind of a b***h anyways."

"Good points and - I don't know if he did or didn't," Al conceded and offered Melvin a fist for a fist bump at his comment. Al wasn't allowed to say such things about Peyton but that absolutely was a pound it moment if he ever heard one.

Melvin stared at him and the fist before moving himself from the tree and leaning enough to slowly first bump him back. "I haven't done that in years." He admitted, considering the last time was probably back in college. Lawr wasn't a fist bumper of course.
"So.......you and Noah gonna get married?"

"You should do it more, you are a pro at slow motion pounding it," Al teased before suddenly turning dead silent and then staring at Melvin and his new question.
He stared for a while before finally breaking the awkward silence with an 'answer'.
"What?"

"Seems to be the it thing to do. Get married. Make a kid out of sticks and name him Jeff. Hope magic makes him real." His said, his tone neutral as he looked over at him with a shrug. "Have you thought about it?"

"God, what, why are you even asking me this? I'm not going to like marry someone just 'cause it's hip." Stick child?... Was Melvin high?
He started messing with his hair anxiously - yes, he wasn't wearing his scarf - ruffling it a bit too much. "No I haven't thought about it. Like, is there even a reason?"

Melvin stared back at him. "Is there a reason to get married? I guess it depends on who you ask. Just wondering if you had thought about it but I'm seeing the answer is no."
He smiled a little at how much he was flustering about with his hands. "Think Noah would freak out if you showed him a ring?"

"Because sometimes if someone isn't expecting it or hasn't felt they reached that point, being shown a ring would throw them for a loop. So you think he'd expect a ring then?" He said, looking over at him with a smile.

Yup, Al was definitely a bright pinkish purplish now. At the new subject, he immediately took a breath for the first time since that line of questioning came up.
"No, I don't think he'd like normal jewelry too much. He likes books?" Yes, he clung to that like a lifeline the second it was presented.
