A Challenge
Lawrence looked thoughtful. "Well. He's an older persona I suppose or at least some split point from a much older one. When I was married to my first wife, Maja, I suppose I perfected the persona of Dr Weiman. Good vet, kind father and devoted husband. It was a taxing role to play but one which I consider that I did well for a very long time. It worked right up until the end. Of course after she left, that persona was shelved, I needed something crueller and more focused to survive in a world which wanted to pin me down and take my money away from me. Survival was the name of the game. For a while I was simply Weiman. But that's only the most desperate times. Eventually I was Jan, who you've met. Nowadays yes, Dr Michaels. Not so different from that old self. He's a family man, a homemaker, someone who wants to love and be loved, to exist harmlessly and dutifully, doing what he needs to do and working so hard to make his husband and sons love him and care for him."
He shrugged. "Like the other personas he serves a function but is also a lifestyle and a mode of living. He is who I am, for the moment and hopefully forever."

Return
Dawson answered the door, a half-eaten banana in his other hand. "Hey!" he said cheerfully. "How's it goin', my dude?" Hopefully better after the other island. He looked better at least, if not maybe battered by a passing golem or two.

Awesome
Looking up from the papers he had scattered about the makeshift desk (read: the old occupant's built in dresser), Dawson blinked. "Oh! Uh." He checked his watch with a slight frown, trying to remember if someone had been scheduled to come by now.
Unable to remember, he pushed back and stood, approaching. "I'm sawry, honey," he said, "didja need me? My head's so fulla stuff, things been fallin' out."

A Challenge
As Lawrence spoke, Dawson pulled a notepad out from his makeshift desk. Had he known someone was coming, he would have made a proper folder, but that would have to wait until after the initial meeting. He made simple notes, short phrases.
"Let's open that up a bit," he said as he looked up, setting the notepad aside. "I know about Mik and Mal....colm? I'm aware the other guy's here, but let's go with Mikhael first. Does he know about yer personas? How's he takin' to life here with you?"

ReturnMelivn stared back at Dawson, glanced at the banana, glanced back to him, and cleared his throat. "It's....been okay. I just....wanted to catch up with you for a bit since getting back. If that's okay?"

A Challenge
"Mikael doesn't understand the personas particularly. I've never tried to explain them. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. That's the correct turn of phrase correct? He can be intelligent at some things but when it comes to understanding people he is not very invested or versatile. He understands what I am at the core of myself however, the limitations on emotional love over love as an action."
He tapped his chin with his one hand thoughtfully. "He's living with me again after moving out for a time, his brother was concerned about Melvin's designs upon him and wanted to take him elsewhere. I feel glad that they are back. They are family and therefore both of them are important. People consistently try to turn Mikael against me but still to this day, he sees sense."

Awesome
Molly stepped out a bit more from behind the door frame as Dawson stood, waving her free hand enthusiastically in a universal symbol of 'no no, it's fine'.
"No, I didn't---well, maybe that's not true if you're the one behind all this---so maybe yes, but no, not on the sense that I need counseling but---" Molly's cheeks burned a bit red, and she sucked in a huge breath before pausing. Okay. It was fine, get collected. Her hand still as well, and she held that for a moment before she released the breath and let out a bit of a laugh.
"Okay." She breathed, and then grinned sheepishly at Dawson. "What I meant to say was, if you're the one behind this---" She made a gesture to encompass everything around them. "Then I wanted to say thank you!" The red head beamed at him. "This was something I always wanted to do myself, but then, well, one thing led to another and now I help my best friend with his specialization so....there's no time for....this..." She trailed off for a moment, seemingly wistful for a moment for what could have been, before she snapped back to the present.
"So it just really makes me happy to see someone just wanting to help out others. You have an amazing set up here! It's fabulous!"

return"Tha's fine," Dawson said as he continued to chomp on the banana. "Uh, wait. You mean catch up like just generally, or like, continue our discussion? 'Cuz I wanna keep work outta the house if I can, keep it in the chapel n' all." It was either an admirable or a futile effort on his part to mark the dividing lines.

a challenge"Give him some credit," he said. "He says what he means n' means what he says, Mik does. I get a feelin' he plays dumb more than he is dumb. I do that sometimes." He shrugged. "Makes it easier. But I get whatcha mean." The branching conversational options spread before him like he had unfurled his tool bag. The question was, which one did he pick up first? It was easy, at least, to set aside the ones pursuing Mikael. He wasn't the one sitting in the upstairs room after all. "What's family mean t'you exactly?" Dawson asked. "Since you said they're important n' all. Is bein' here with you better than with other family out there?"

awesome"Oh!" It felt odd. Dawson hadn't heard of anyone stepping forward exactly, but now that someone had expressed past interest, he felt as though he might have tread on someone else's territory. "Uh, I mean..." His flustering was slower than hers, enough that one could almost read the words on his face before he said them. "I-I ain' got a specialization or nothin'," he told her with a vague motion of his hands, almost apologetic. "This's jus' somethin' I figured, uh, Deus needed, so, uh...I mean, s'nothin' big or...I mean, you got seniority," judging by the flair to her coat, "so if you ever decided ya wanted, you could take over the operation n' I'd be, uh, like a second in command or somethin', I guess?" It was like he hadn't heard the thanks.

A Challenge
"Oh it's certainly mostly an act." he said idly. "He does it to get what he wants, to manipulate people. He's not quite as stupid as he appears, though I suppose after so long one does ask where the act ends and he begins."
He shrugged.
"And hm. Family. That's a complicated one isn't it? The definition varies from one individual to another. I suppose for me first and foremost it is blood. Blood relations are the most important as they harbour some part of you. My sons therefore take a precedent. However my husband is also an important part of a family because every family needs balance, a partnership of give and take. That is the most basic components of what it means to me. I suppose I just like my families nuclear, though I would have been happy to include Melvin in my dream if it had not been so utterly disagreeable to Rodney."
He raised a brow. "Family is important, but much of the family I have off island is neither blood nor any longer a partner of mine so cannot compare at all to what I have here."

awesomeUnfortunately, Molly just fed off of Dawson's flustering. "Oh!" She echoed, her cheeks burning more as she waved her free hand at him frantically. "No! No---I don't want to take it over---I can't---it's your's and---No, really, I mean it!" Her voice got a little high pitched. "I'm off the island now a days like ninety-nine percent of the time, so I really can't do what you're doing---and I don't want to take it from you! It's your project and I just really love what you're doing!" She sucked in a deep breath, and stopped waving her hand at him. "So please---don't say that! I want to keep seeing what you'll do with it!"

Return "Uh....discussion." He hadn't been sure how things worked now. On the island it was finding a spot on the beach, but he supposed Dawson would want to seperate his home from whatever safe space he designated. It just felt uncomfortable now to know he was entering a spot designated for counseling when before he could play it off as more natural and coincidental.

"Could ya blame him?" He raised a brow back. "Wasn' exactly the healthiest with all three a'you, let alone addin' in yer kids to the mix. I think havin' his own space's makin' it easier fer all parties."
He jotted something down in surprisingly neat, if not cramped, handwriting. "I guess my next question is, are ya happy? Bein' Dr. Michaels, havin' Rodney and yer sons, bein' a hunter n' all that."

"A'right, I'll meetcha in the middle: another walk on the beach?"
Dawson finished his banana and wiped his mouth on the back of his sleeve.
"Assumin' we don' get attacked midway, heh."
