Vermina- Post 2

Wrinkling her nose, Vermina took a long breath to keep herself from doing something that would raise a fuss. If the matron was welcoming hybrids in such a way, then she would learn to do so as well. At least the one nearby had a set of blades on her-him. ...How in Aisha's name did one handle being a male?

Oh, now wasn't the time for such thoughts.

She turned her focus back to the front, soothed by the youngest mystic's radiating intentions. Danika was always such a welcome sight, and seeing her keeping a calm face was just as welcome.

Very welcome, now. Sisters had been going missing.. and now it was urgent enough for them to gather and officially focus on. Oh, Aisha...

It WAS her

That voice... the more she heard it, the more unmistakable it was that it was Mnyiri. She was here! She was not vanished, she...

The hand that touched hers was Mnyiri's. A little different, more calloused, creased by sand and sun and foreign places, but hers. She gripped it firmly, pulling Mnyiri closer. She reached for her face, managing to find the familiar cheekbones, the jaw, the lips. Her fingers caressed the features, confirming and taking pleasure in the fact that it was, indeed, Mnyiri. She had come home. She was safe.

"Y-yes." somehow, she was managing not to weep with joy. Somehow she was managing to be slightly sarcastic. She didn't know how she was doing it, only that her heart hurt. "Thank the goddess that I'm all right."

She was the one that was travelling! I was worried about her!

She chuckled halfheartedly, tears forming despite her equally halfhearted efforts. Who cared if she cried?

She heard the call for silence, and she was indeed quiet, but her attention was otherwise occupied. How could it not be? Embraces such as these were not meant to be cut short.

There was the young Mystic, if that shadowed shape was her. Good.

Votzhem straightened his back and sat tall and alert, his ears, antennae, and eyes all directed, intent towards Elder Yansa.

Yes. It was time they spoke of it. He had heard of earthlings disappearing - he was worried for his children as they left his home to wander the world. Sisters were a whole different worry, both of greater and lesser importance thanks to the contradictory bonds of tribe and family.

The tribe needed to do something about it. Votzhem needed to listen, so that he could play his part.

Play my part...
Protect my children...

How could he do both?

Rishima - Post 3

Rishima starred up at his taller sister for a moment as she spoke of Shima acting out. He blinked his mismatched eyes slowly before he chuckled, "A girl that is acting impulsively and not listening to authority well? I wonder where she could have gotten that from?" He mused, then gave a smile and teasingly suggested, "Must have been, Aminah?"

Giving her a little nudge he said, "I'm sure she will come around. She's still young and energetic. I remember when I had so much energy. I'm a little envious of those with so much energy." Acting as though he was such an old man as all of that.

As one of their elders called out to them for silence his antennae set to bouncing a little before his full attention turned to them. A moment later she was explaining the reason for them having been called out and he couldn't help but to instantly worry. People were disappearing? Who was taking them? Was if those new comers? Was it a sect of the Obans? Was it someone or something else? Turning to look back in the way of home he found himself muttering, "Maybe I shouldn't have left him on his own..." He'd wanted to come because it seemed very important... and he'd left Gerraden behind because he wasn't allowed on the isles. Something that had him twitching just a bit now.

If these strict and outdated rules caused something to happen to him... just thinking about was making his stomach hurt so he did his best to shake off such thoughts. He'd figure out what was going on, help where he could, and then he'd head home to make sure Gerr was alright.

She gave Rishima a disparaging look, yeah yeah Shima acted a lot like herself at a young age...maybe she should be going around and apologizing to all her elder sisters who had to put up with her own behavior now that she got a taste of her own medicine.

"Har Har..." She managed with a slight shake of her head. Looking around at the fellow sisters and more hybrids than she expected to be here she could only give a nod to his comment about being full of energy. Yes there were many days that she wished that she could keep up with her own children..

"I see that your mate isn't here...." Jerarda lowered her voice, after all it was for that very reason that Shima was being extraordinarily angry and stubborn. Hybrids like them...if they didn't not follow the path of the sisters were not welcome on the isles. It hurt her as well..to know that if Shima decided to abandon the path she had started on..she wouldn't be welcome either. Placing a hand on Rishima's shoulder she gave him a firm squeeze.

"You know..I am surprised that you don't have your own little ones to worry about...I am sure Aisha would bless you both...or..perhaps your mate isn't interested in having kids?" She murmured trying to keep their conversation private, though she wasn't going to get a chance to get a reply..or at least not right away as one of the elders had approached the group.

Going silent as one of the elders began to speak she found that the gathering had become almost unbearably quiet. The disappearances were one of the major reasons that Jerarda had been so strict with the kids wandering off on their own. She wished they wouldn't draw this out..the sooner she knew the faster she could go about dealing out punishment for those doing such terrible things.

Mnyiri - 3

Mnyiri couldn't help herself. Drawn in by Dyakida's wandering fingers, she moved her face closer until she could place an excitable kiss upon the blacksmith's lips. It was a quick gesture of affection; just enough to show her just how much she was missed, and still chaste enough to pass in polite company.

"I told you I would come home," she murmured, still smiling from ear to ear. She reached up to cup Kida's face with her hand, taking the pad of her thumb to brush away her tears. "Hey hey hey, it's okay," Mnyiri whispered, trying to be quiet and respectable, but it was hard.

"I know you did." Dyakida murmured, reeling a little in the wake of the kiss. So many sensations, so much relief. It was a little too much emotion at once, but it was better than the best jungle wine. "And you did."

Her free hand kept, almost absentmindedly, feeling Mnyiri's face, her ears, her hair, her neck, her shoulder, her face again - It was as if she couldn't believe what she was 'seeing'. Or, maybe, as if she wanted to remember everything.

"I missed you." she said, leaning into Mnyiri. She didn't care what others may or may not see (they could close their eyes if it bothered them so!) She didn't care what she might have done or told Mnyiri before she'd left. She just wanted her to be there... and she was.

Mnyiri - 4

"I missed you too," she murmured, pulling the other alkidike closer to her. The moment was much more subdued than when she had first arrived, and it left allowed Mnyiri's body to truly feel the exhaustion coursing through it. She felt as if she could sleep for a thousand years, and yet, the anxiety in her blood wouldn't allow it.

Something was still very wrong. Not with their small meeting, but with this gathering at large. Just pondering on it made her hold Dyakida just a little tighter as her eyes looked through the crowd. She focused on the mystic and the matron; hoping that one or the other would have some sort of clue to the dark mystery surrounding them all.

Danika - 3

So they were announcing the disappearances. Danika twisted her hands behind her back nervously while her mentor stood nearby. Was there something that Eshe was noticing that she had missed? Honestly it was hard to calm her thoughts when they were racing with so many ideas and feelings. Worry for her missing sisters and the desire to comfort those obviously shifting around in the crowd flooded her heart. She just prayed Aisha could help guide them and that the elders would tell more about what was going on...

If they even knew that was.

Chapter 9: Grave Expectations

|| IC ||

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.A rumble filled the crowd. While most were concerned about the admittance from their elders, a few voiced outrage at the thought. Sisters disappearing? How could that even be possible? There had to be something, or someone, that was causing such a grievance against Aisha's chosen. Yansa was not amused, and made it clear as she shouted for silence once more.

Shaking her head, she gestured to the council before continuing on once everyone was quiet.

"We have traveled across our lands, to the boundary that breaks us from the Earthlings. We sought answers to those who were taken, examined every root, rock, and tree. All we could find were shadows of the struggle our sisters faced, fighting until they were no more."

Yansa shook her head, "We couldn't track down any sort of path...but it is clear that every sister reported missing has indeed gone missing. There is something more to this...some sort of threat we cannot identify. But we are strong as a sisterhood, and we will not let some small threat leave our sisters unavenged."

"We promise you," Yansa said with determination, "We will find out what happened and bring our lost sisters home."

Yansa paused from her speech, before the elder mystic began to move. She stepped forward, and Yansa bowed her head before stepping back. The mystic rarely spoke up, so to do so during such a grand meeting was enough to silence even the most restless of Alkidike.

"We must stay vigilant on our surroundings..." Eshe added with her soft voice, staring far out into the distance from where she stood, "We must stand together...as sisters. Together we have strength and safety..."

Yansa nodded, "From this point forward, if you are in our lands you must travel with another...for everyone's safety we must look out for each other..." The elder trailed off, knowing some may be outraged from such a thought, and allowed for those before her to finally speak up.

Rishima - Post 4

Rishima's antennae gave a little twitch at her words, "If that he could be... but despite his parentage adn what I think of him he walks the 'wrong' path. As such he had to stay behind and now I regret it greatly..." He said in a hushed tone that was for only Jerarda to here. Had he known he would have been more likely to stick close to him so that he could make sure that he was kept safe. Just thinking about it made him shift in place, unable to stand still.

Glancing around as the elders spoke of the situation that they were now in, what they had tried to do, and what they felt they should do going forward. There was mention of finding out what happened to their lost sisters and how they would bring them home... but there was no mention of the Earthlings. Surely it wasn't just their sisters that were being taken by the mysterious means but there was no mention of anyone outside of their sisters. What of those like Jerarda and himself that had mates that were either Earthling or following the path of the Earthlings? What if something happened to Gerraden? To Aminah? Surely though the other elders of the tribes were aware of things as well too, right? At least he really hoped so.

No, he didn't want to think about that, he wanted to think ill of his sisters. Instead he wanted to think about how they could go about helping. If they could figure out what was going on, who was behind it all, then they would be able to protect everyone! Provided of course that they could take on whatever force was taking people.

"What do you think, sister?" He asked, glancing toward Jerarda, "I want to help of course, those missing are our sisters,... but now I am worried for Gerraden and for your family as well." He couldn't just leave them be. So what to do?

Dyakida was glad for the closeness of Mnyiri's body, the feeling of her presence, the touch of her skin, as Yansa and Eshe spoke. She couldn't help but remember all of the times she had wandered off on her own in search of resources, with only a sprite to guide her. They had been misguided attempts to be independent, to not be inferior to her sighted sisters. She had been so vulnerable, then. She would have been easily taken, and perhaps there would not have even been a struggle for others to find... Foolish.

She was not so foolish now. She always travelled with another, now able - between her status and her loyal friends - to command some measure of respect. It was safer that way, and at this point they wouldn't let her out of their sight, especially outside of the settlement. But definitely, not anymore.

"Mnyiri... promise me that you will do just that?" she whispered to Mnyiri anxiously. "Not travel alone? I know you have a Radaku, but..." Dyakida was trying not to sound pleading, but she was.

Iroia is safe. Iroia is safe. Iroia is safe.

Votzhem repeated it to himself, over and over as the elders spoke.

Iroia is safe. She is with friends and family. Iroia is safe.

But what of Kaalnia?

He tried to keep his face and body stoic.

My sister can take care of herself.

But so could the other sisters who were taken.

He clenched his teeth.

Not once did he think 'am I safe', even though he should have. Was he safe here, among his sisters? Would any partblood be safe in times of strife? How long would it be before they started blaming him?

It was a very brief thought in his mind, a mere flash or spark, before his worries turned back to his family. His older children were abroad. Together, he hoped. Would that be enough?

The slow, bubbling outrage of the crowd brought him out of his meditative listening state. He rose to his feet, contemplating what to do next. Their fury was born of frustration, pride, and fear. The only one of those he shared was fear.

"Elders -" he said, speaking loudly over the crowd. His voice was resonant, but fortunately things were only just starting to boil, otherwise his voice might have been drowned out by his sisters - as partblood voices generally were. "Will there be any organized effort to ensure that every sister has another to travel with?"

It was a reasonable fear. Some would set off on their own. Others... might find themselves stranded. Especially partbloods... especially brothers... but also their parents, and any other Sister, young or old, that might find themselves holding the short end of the stick in terms of companions.

"And what of Sisters still abroad? Will there be any search parties sent to ensure that they return to these lands safely?"

The woman's focus for a moment was soley on the elders who were speaking. There was something about your worries coming to bare fruit that made you feel sick to your stomach. Although she had a strong suspicion about the cause of the disappearances she was positive that if she voiced her opinion she would be viewed as paranoid or crazy.

Looking to Rishima she saw his worried expression, she was more than willing to go and hunt for the missing people and confirm her hunch about who was causing the kidnapping but he had a valid point. To go on a crazy chase..and leave their families alone... although she knew Animah could handle herself, what about their kids?

"I...have a hunch...perhaps you can join me and thus we can try and search the area quickly. I don't doubt my mates ability to protect our family but...I fear my suspicions will be correct. " She murmured, looking up she shifted her position as she looked to the elders. Her head turned as a hybrid spoke up speaking about organizing parties to ensure that every sister was taken care of. It was a time consuming endeavor but one that was indeed needed. Turning to Votzhem she gave him an appraising look it was of course the first time she seen him.

"I welcome any who wish to travel back to mainland with myself. I promise to escort any who need to get back to their families safely."

Rishima - Post 5

Rishima's antennae gave a twitch as his sister said that she 'had a hunch' which instantly had his mind whirling. A hunch, huh? Did it involve the place that she seemed to have a lot of interest in? The same place that Shima had been interested in when she was younger? The thought about it being connected to said place was even more worrisome but if Jerarda was going there he wouldn't leave her on her own.

"If you need me I am more then happy to accompany you, Jerarda." He was still worried about Gerraden though, "I would like to see Gerr moved into Andile though or with his parents before we head out." Unless of course Gerraden wanted to join them at least. He knew that if he tried to leave him at home like a child that he might end up getting upset with Rishima again... not something that he wanted to risk again. His antennae gave a rapid twitch before he looked over at Elders once more.

Lifting a hand up he tapped his index finger against his lips in a thoughtful manner before he called out to their elders, "Will the security in Andile and Emeka be raised to combat the threat as well?" Best to know. If those places were being kept as safe as the Chibale Isles from the threat then it might be good to move his family there temporarily.
