Thanks! <3

"Great balls of FIRE!", the mare shouted at herself as she stopped near the exit of the forest she had been hiding in. She was exhausted, not from running or hiding NO….exhausted by this icy IDIOT that had managed to track her all the way to these strange lands. It was getting ridiculous, she had defeated him many times before yet he refused to yield. Could they have ever really been friends, had she dreamed their childhood?

Yes these 2 polar opposites used to be quite the pair in their younger days. Their parents may not have liked it but the mares parents at least thought their daughter would outgrow him eventually. Aside from their 'nature' being different they were actually quite similar, in the sense they both were competitive! As children they were harmless games, tic tac toe, hide and go seek, ect. As they got older they got bolder, both having a not so healthy addiction to adrenalin.

It didn’t take long for it to become a game of 'Who is Braver' or 'Who can push themselves Farther'….needless to say it got dangerous sometimes and did result in injuries at times. The mare seemed to be a little more agile and with her agility her strength and dexterity also grew. She was able to get a boost in speed and able to jump farther then her icy counterpart.

Her friend started to grow a little jealous but tried not to let it get in the way. That was until one day everything changed, her head got too big her flames too bright. She started to gloat about being 'better' and for awhile her friend laughed it off until he could take no more! They had an obstacle race with the finish marked on the other side of a small cliff, meaning they had to jump the cliff to the other side to win. The mare won and gloated her success at being better, the stallion was furious and hurt.

This led to rematch after rematch and the stallion became quite the sore loser, pushing himself further and further closer to the breaking point. This competition now put a strain on themselves and their friendship, it diminished more each day. The mare grew tired of it all and eventually realized she had been a jerk. She apologized to her once friend and wanted to mend what was broken, but he would have none of it! He insisted on a grand competition and she refused…day after day, month after month.

He was relentless to the point of anger at her refusal. They were now adults and she wanted to set off on a grand adventure so she said her farewells to her parents and even left a note to her once dear friend. When he received it though it infuriated him and he sought her out relentlessly to 'settle the score'. She evaded for a long time, but she grew tired of his stubbornness, she had learned there was more to winning in her travels, she had grown-up why couldn’t he?!

She was so tired and she missed her friend she knew it was time to end this, but with him not listening to reason what could she do? With determination she looked to the forest again knowing he couldn’t be far behind and decided to stand her ground. She knew what she had to do. She had to give him his one last competition. Win or Lose it didn’t not matter for in the end she would be sure to WIN her friend back!

Prompt Response: 'Is he still following me...?' The mare snorted as she glanced over her shoulder and down the mountain side. She was running out of places to go and quickly, not knowing the territory well. Unfortunately now he had chased her into his own element and she was quickly slowing down. She looked up ahead of her again at the snow covered trail, huffed and glanced back down towards the stallion again. He was moving slowly, as he had been the entire time, just casually following...but why?

'What does that icy fool want with me?' She scowled to herself and trudged on, in hopes the peak of the mountain would allow her some escape. It wasn't long before she reached the peak and had her question answered. Before her lay a sheer drop down the other side. She was cornered now and fairly certain the stallion behind her knew it. She glanced back down again only to see him stopped in his tracks as well.

"What do you want?!" She called, a sharp bite in her voice. No response. Just an icy stare back at her.
"Answer me!" She cried again, staring him down and trying desperately to make herself look bigger.
She may be in his element, but she still stood a chance of high ground with the flames licking off of her back. Still, no response. The mare stared him down, debating her methods of escape. 'I could charge right past...likely burn him. That would at least get him out of me way and possibly off my tail for a while...' She thought, carefully looking over her surroundings.

She braced herself to charge and caught one last look at the stallion before she did. Was he...admiring her? He hadn't moved closer, and almost seemed saddened in a way. She shook her head. No. There was no way such a creature as him would look at her in such a way. With one last snort she charged and slammed into him with a sizzle on her way back down the mountain.

Prompt Response: Something about her caught his attention early on. She appeared to only be passing through, as quickly as possible, but he was drawn to her in a way he had never felt for anyone before. The stallion raised his head slowly as he watched her, keeping his gaze fixed solely on the fiery mare as she quickly left the area. He had to follow her. To see where she was going. To hopefully make her his.

He trotted along her path, easy to follow as it left scorch marks in it's wake, and stuck far enough behind to just barely keep her in his sights. She was stunning...the way the flames danced off her shoulders and back. He had never seen anyone like her before. He smiled a bit to himself but quickly let it drop when she looked his way. Oh no...she saw him. Was she going to attack? Was she going to yell, or chase him off like others before?

Nope.

He sighed and continued his trek after her as she bolted. He followed for several days, always staying just far enough behind to keep her in his sights and trying hard not to seem like a threat.
Though based on her fleeing his every movement, she thought exactly that. It wasn't long before he now faced her at the peak of one of the mountains. She was yelling something...her voice carried on the air sung to him rather than threatened. His icy gaze softened, trying to get her to see that he meant her no harm, even if he could not voice it. He wanted desperately to say something to her,
even looking around a small amount for a gift he could offer her.

He never got his chance as she slammed him out of the way with a fiery charge, making her way back down the mountain. He cried silently over the burn and watched as his treasure disappeared into the coming snow storm.

"He has found me," she muttered under her breath as she gazed off into the distance. It was not difficult to spot the purple stallion from the tall crag upon which she stood, for indeed he was a conspicuous character – but, then again, so was she. His pace quickened, and she huffed as she watched the time she had to herself shorten with his hastened approach. At least he was a clumsy climber. "His hooves and hefty body are certainly not doing him any favors," she grinned, a chuckle escaping her. She hoped he did not hear her; he hated her enough as it is.

She hadn't done anything wrong, at least, not in her eyes. She made no promises, told no lie, and intended no harm. It was her fire that was at fault. She had burned with desire for the stallion, and her passion was intense but fleeting. Perhaps that was her mistake. How could she have expected ice to understand? Ice was so unlike fire. It took time to form and lasted ages, permeating that upon which it grew.

In the beginning, he was cold and unfeeling, characteristic of his element. With time, she won him over, warming him up. Then, he was different. Ice turned to water, lively and flowing. But fire does not endure, and, although her love for him burned out as every fire does, he clung to her as ice clung to rocks.

At this point, he had completed his ascent. The clacking of hooves against the rocks had stopped only a pace or two behind her. She cast her gaze over her shoulder, her eyes meeting his glare. This was the first time she did not run for him. She once had the energy for the chase, but no longer – that fire had also died out. "I'm tired," she stated plainly, finally breaking the silence between them for the first time since she left him. He, however, maintained that silence, not speaking a word after her. She held his gaze for several, lengthy moments before turning away, looking back out at the setting sun. "Let's stop this chase; it isn't good for either of us. What do you want?"

"You hurt me."

She bit her lip. "That wasn't my intention–"

"But you did."

She supposed that he needed her heat. If she did indeed melt his ice, once her fire left him he must have immediately frozen once again. Though she understood this of him, she had no regrets. He should afford her the same understanding, for she would be who she was: fiery.

She felt something inside her chest flare up, a rage that found fuel. A newfound strength; a fire ignited.

"You should hurt, too."

She flexed her claws, lips twisting into a smirk. "On the contrary, my dear, I should not." She turned around and faced him, the flames framing her face dancing, vibrant and exuberant. "My fire will not bring you the warmth you crave."

The sun had set now, dusk staining the sky. 'A fitting time for an ending long overdue,' she grinned, tail lashing, burning with a vehemence the stallion had never seen before now. There was a shift in his demeanor, a flash in his eyes as she brought him to a boil. Even now his fervor was fueled by her fire. This only angered her more, and her flames grew stronger. "I'm done."

She lunged at him, a roar shredding the silence around them. He met her with a screech of his own, bracing himself for the impact so he could truly feel her energy for the last time.

So fire met ice in a clash of passion and hate.

............

They found resolution.

Though weary and wounded, the two prevailed in their own ways. Fire had melted the hold ice had on her, and ice had felt enough heat to understand that fire was not a force which had a place in his life. The two parted ways, walking away into the night with the peace they so desperately needed.

She took refuge in a cave not far away from the crag where they clashed. She was exhausted, but not extinguished. A smile formed on her face. "I am alright, just in need of rest. I will be ablaze again before you know it."

Prompt Response: A laugh escaped her lips.

He had managed to keep up with her so far but she was beginning to wonder if he'd ever lose steam. Not that staying one step ahead of him was difficult mind you. He was strong. He was fierce but he was stubborn. And that was going to cost him. Eventually. For now however she enjoyed keeping up the charade.

She paused just on the other side of a rocky outcropping, her ears perked and listening. She could hear him in the distance. His cries of rage and threats unmistakable. Another smirk crossed her features as she imagined the look on his face right now. Oh how she had played him. How she had played them both. She could remember that day as if it had happened mere seconds ago.

Her, the lone, weak wanderer, frail from the cold winds native to the area. He, the strong and proud stallion accustomed to living in such conditions. Beside him his faithful lover, equally as proud and strong in their own ways. Both having been together for as long as they could remember. And equally they had welcomed her into their home to recover. For many days she kept up the act, playing the damsel in distress. During the day the brute would go out and fetch necessities for not only two, but three now. The other would stay by her side, tending to her as a parent would a foal. As a sibling would a sister. Eventually....as a lover would a mate.

On that last day she looked into the lover's eyes for the last time, her false shows of love and affection having finally won them over. The brute returned sooner than she had expected and caught the two, his mate practically wrapped around her paws by this point. And all she could do was laugh.

She had fled from their cave in a blink of an eye though she still remembered the look on their faces. The heartache in them both for several different reasons. That rush she found driving a stake between happy couples. And it made her feel good.

Several weeks had passed since that day and yet he still insisted upon hunting her down. The more she thought about it the more she came to realize she'd be utterly bored if he gave up. She enjoyed a good game of cat and mouse; even more so having silently turned the tables upon the brute without him realizing it. She'd stay just one move ahead of him to let him continue thinking he was winning. That he'd catch her. And when the time came, when he was completely exhausted and running on empty... she'd strike.

Swift, Fast, Strong.

He'd never see it coming.

It wasn't something he could just ignore. It wasn't that simple nor was it easy. When it came to him there was a fine line to cross and she crossed it so easily it crippled him. He didn't know what to do about it. He was a loner. A outcast. A misfit, but he was completely fine with that. He had been called strange or odd looking by others before and brushed it off like it didn't even matter. It didn't, but today everything mattered.

He first saw her going about her day wandering the land not really causing a threat to anything, or at least it didn't seem like she was. She didn't really do anything to him physically. It wasn't because she couldn't, it was more so that she didn't know he existed. He tended to stay in the shadows watching others in the tall grass and keeping to himself. She walked right on by him that day and she didn't even notice how enticed he was with her. Many would call it love at first sight. He would say it was an annoyance. A feeling that led you nowhere. To him this was just nonsense, but he felt it. He felt drawn to her and that bothered him. It made him angry. So angry that he learned of her routine quite easily.

He didn't approach her. He didn't say anything to her for days. He simply watched her. Feeling in awe of her beauty and compared to his own she was a goddess. He was something people wrote horror stories about. Then one day she stopped coming around. His beauty had vanished and that made him even angrier. Not only did she mess with his heart, but now she left. He wasn't the best tracker in the world. He has some basic skills and that was good enough to find her.

A couple days was all he needed and when he found her, he was completely stunned. He wanted to tell her to her face exactly what she did to him and how unfair it was that he had to deal with this. But it really wasn't her fault. Nothing about it was her fault. He stared feeling like he needed to get up the courage and just do it. He needed to get this off his chest and move on. So he did. He walked up to her. His mind blank to the point where when she said hello to him, he just stared at her in a bit of awe. From her angle it was probably alarming considering he didn't look friendly at all.

"I like you.." He said in a barely audible voice.

He could tell by the mare's expression that she didn't hear him so he had to repeat himself, which was something he didn't like doing at all.

"I said..I like you.." This time his spoke louder with his expression changing to one of worry when she stared at him not phased by anything he had just said.

He then felt like he was two inches tall because now everything was awkward. The silence was enough to kill him and he couldn't even form another sentence knowing she heard him. He simply turned away and started walking the way he came. He had everything set up in his head. He was going to tell her off and really give it to her. He was going to scare her away for good and be the evil brute of a guy he was.

Except he couldn't.

He didn't even realize he had fallen for her before it was too late and that was the most irritating thing about it.

She didn't do anything.
He didn't do anything.

There was no reason for him to be this angry, but yet he was. He was beating himself up over and over again in his head because he liked her. He liked her and he was never going to get to know her. It wasn't even about how he felt anymore. It was more then that. It was deeper. Something that stemmed from his childhood.

No one could love a ugly creature like him.

That is what made him so angry.

DISHONOR. Dishonor on her wole thrice-damned family, anyways! Nicodemus hissed as he traled after the female for days, for weeks -- all because he was a stalion on a mission. And his mission was delicious rtevenge. The proud male hadn't expected the female to tarnish his pride - not when he3 saw her. To him, it was another day, another male, another baqtch of Iellegitimate foals and fillies he'd never know abouit... Except his usual sweet woprds did nothing. No, instewad she darted to laugh aty him. And laughing... Nicodemus didn't tajke lightly.l

At first, he'd snapped, growling at her-- Nd then the stupid mare ran. Well now. Two could play that game, and Nicodemus chased -- using left behind hairs, and scent,m and other tracking methods to hunt the female, and by the time he reached these new lands, he was furious. Gods damn the female anyhow -- she already tarniushed his pride, now she tarnished his sensibilities by daring to hide in some stupid savage land with more stupid--

Well Nicodemus wasn't giving up. He was going to catch and break that mare. She was going to learn he would not be made a fool of-- aaand there was a lovely mare making eyes at him, and for a moment, he was distracted from stewing or plotting revenge, and put on his best smile....

At one time, ice and fire co-existed in harmony.

The pair were inseparable, or so it seemed. While they butted heads occasionally, it was that of a friendship kindling than anything else. There was nothing that could stop them from being the pals they were. Their meeting was even that of fate itself, as a young mare and stallion do -- just by chance itself. They ran together (even if she had to keep back for him to be caught up), played in the sun, explored and did all sorts of things that friends do. In fact, one might say that there was even a greater... kindling between the both of them.

But like all things, eventually fire melts the ice, or the ice chokes the fire until there's nothing left.

Until now, they were back in the same area on different terms. It was something she didn't expect. The mare did not want to meet like this to say the least. She was doing her usual thing, running about to her easiest hunting spots, trying to find an easy meal for her to devour. As she ventured into the thicket, she heard something that put her on edge. Perhaps it was the sound of the wind rustling the grass, or perhaps it was the smell of the air as a chilled wind came by but something had clicked in her brain that it was him. She knew that he was still furious with her, and it was her instinct to avoid him at all costs. Instead of turning back to face whatever caused the sounds, she broke into a run out of the thickets. She knew that she could always eat later, there was no trouble in her finding a meal and she knew it. This could wait, she wasn't that hungry in comparison to what she was trying to do currently. Her ears filled with the sounds of a larger body chasing her. She knew that there was something -- or someone -- behind her, and she knew full and well who it was. Exiting one territory into another, she could see the differences of the lands as she normally had been able to. From the fields, to forest, to a valley she went. It all seemed like time wasn't really moving compared to her desire to escape, but something within her seemed to cause her to stop.

And so, she slowed during her gallop as she entered into a valley that just... seemed so empty and desolate. Maybe it was the fact that she could still hear him keeping up with her, even from a distance. It was strange, this wasn't like before when she had ran far away to escape her responsibilities. They both knew that she had to own up for what she did to him.

However, she was not going to fight, there was something with him despite how brutish he might be or how cold and distant his demeanor may settle. There was a heed of friendship buried under the bad looks and bad measurements of anger. She knew that she had to face him head on to finally settle this once and for all. She didn't care if he granted her no good grace for the fallout that they had suffered, but she was going to try her best to either rekindle the flame that was their friendship or gracefully put it out to not ignite more of those awful flames.

It was then that she finally stopped, her pace slowed from the full gallop, down to a canter until finally she stopped. Her ears swiveled a bit as she heard the sound of him continuing his pace, before it slowed as well. Shaking her head, something within her seemed to resonate. She couldn't describe the words, but she had to say something, even if it was forced out.

" This has to stop. " She began, not looking back just yet. The way she barked out words, it almost felt as if she was spitting up acid. She hated to do this, she hated to be the one to have to say that she admits defeat and had made a mistake. That was not her style at all and her pride burned the entire time that she stood there and spoke instead of continuing her fleeing pace. Her voice seemed to ease into what she was saying, the words seemed... easier to speak and her matured voice echoed through the seemingly empty valley, minus the both of them of course. " What we've been doing is far from civil and you know that. You and I used to be friends, and I know that what happened in our past can't change what we used to be -- I ... "

Her ear flicked, all that she could hear were the sounds of his hooves clacking against the smoothed path below her soft pawed feet. With a short breath, she raised her neck and looked back in the direction of the clacking, only to hear it fade suddenly as the realization hit her. There was no sign of the stallion, the sound of his hooves was nothing more than a fictitious sound that came from her head itself.

In fact.

There was nothing there but the cold wind itself.

She escaped him once again without meaning to.

Running always running. It seemed like everything she did was run. Why couldn't she just have one peaceful day? Oh right it was because HE was chasing HER. She darted into a cave as she hoped for a slight bit of relief from the endless running. She was running low on steam, and no that wasn't a pun!

"Why does he need to be this stubborn?!" She said to herself, exasperated at the entire situation. "I just flirted with him a little bit... Why does he feel the need to chase me like I am some Goddess or whatever?!" She sighed. It was all just ridiculous. She had flirted with him, and apparently that was a mistake. She had played with him, it was in her nature to do so. Now she was stuck with him, she couldn't make him go away. She just had to keep moving and keep running.

"What would it be like if I could just settle back down without having him chase after me?!" She wondered aloud. She didn't think anyone would be around, after all she prided herself on her speed. On her ability to flee and get away at a moment's notice. She slid out of the troubling situation in an instant. She was slick and she knew it. Fire had to be, otherwise it would consume everything. She would be damned if she would consume those around her. Maybe she didn't just run away from him because he was chasing her and seemed to want to be with her. He was ice.... Why would he even WANT her? It was why she teased and flirted with him in the first place. Because they were opposites. They were never meant to be so it was a funny situation. 'Opposites must really attract....' was the thought that crept threw her mind.

It was that thought that made her pause. 'What would happen if I let him catch me?' She wondered to herself. 'Would it really be that bad? Maybe it would show him that he really doesn't want to be with me anyways!' but then she would be alone. Her face twisted, none of these were good options! Constantly running was tiresome and it was getting boring. He was too stubborn and wasn't giving up like she thought he would. If she got caught then he could decide he didn't want her after all and leave her, then this would all have been for nothing. If he stayed she might actually hurt him. This, this was probably her worst fear. The thing she couldn't let go of. She didn't want to be alone, but she feared hurting others more. Yes she flirted and teased, but that was all in good fun. It wasn't to actually HURT others. That was something she just couldn't stand for. She glared at herself. She needed to make a decision and she needed to do it now. Just what would happen if she let him catch her?

"FINE! Let him catch me!! I will deal with whatever the consequences will be!" She huffed to herself "After all I can simply just run away again!! See if he chases me then!!" She huffed and puffed and she waited. She would wait for him here! Let him come to her, let him catch her, but she wouldn't make it obvious, after all that wasn't fun. Everything needed to be fun, and it needed to be a decent end his chase!

This would be the deciding time. Just what was about to happen? She could never be absolutely sure but, for better or for worse, she was about to find out!
