Tristan's smile was gentle when he shook his head. "We both were, but it doesn't matter who's at fault," he wrinkled his nose as he bumped his shoulder against his companion's. "We found each other and that's what's important."

If it helped settle his nerves to feel grounded by the firm hold on his hand, well, Tristan was thankful for the feeling.

He nodded along with Danny's comments, gaze sweeping across the gathering crowd before ultimately returning to his friend. "Good for the artists," he mused, looking oddly proud of people that he didn't even know. It must have been that artist in him, however uninteresting he found him to be.

Pulled from his thoughts, he squeezed Danny's hand again, chuckling. "Don't worry, you won't." That was the point of holding hands, right?

Following the man's gaze he looked hesitant before nodding. "One loop around won't hurt." His feet started to lead them over.

He almost teetered to the side at the sudden shoulder nudge, the tall young man catching himself before he could do anything stronger than lean to one side. The friendly gesture was laughed at - he was being silly. It was all just silly and Tris was being extra friendly; that's what friends were supposed to do, right? Stick together, through thick and thin?

"Yeah, okay," He nodded, feeling the heat gathering at the tips of his ears, which were thankfully (or rather, hopefully) tucked behind slightly shaggy blonde hair. "For the sake of the artists."

It wasn't at all because he was enjoying the startling feeling of comfort that had come with someone holding (and squeezing) around his hand.

The photographs were intriguing, though most were bland at best. Danny didn't really understand the abstract ones, but the scenic and animal featured ones were breathtaking - grassy fields with almost paint-like clouds in the sky, a family of wolves nestled together beneath a tree. One of the photographers clearly had access to a farm, as there was an idyllic scene captured around a red painted barn, hay stacks nearby.

All sorts of images that one wouldn't find by walking the streets of Destiny City, sadly.

Tearing his gaze away from the mounted photos, he glanced towards his companion.

"You ever thought about putting your stuff in a gallery like this, Tris?"

If Tristan noticed the seemingly perpetual flush of Danny's face and ears, he didn't comment on it. Instead, he seemed content to go about their way as he lead them to the photography display, eagerly looking at all of the images that had been painstakingly prepared for the event. He didn't seem to pay too much attention to Danny as he stepped from photograph together, but he did squeeze the man's hand now and again to remind him that, yeah he wasn't talking but he was still there.

Once they had seen most of them, he allowed himself to be distracted by the question posed.

"Ah, I dunno. I'm just alright. Nothing special." Others might have argued otherwise, because he clearly was good enough to get semi-regular gigs with and without Fiona's help (but mostly with), but Tris didn't seem like he thought too highly of his own skills.

"Maybe one day, if I find anything putting on display for everyone." He certainly had favorite photographs back in his room, but nothing he thought would be as beautiful or breathtaking to anyone else. "It's mostly just for me, y'know?"

He looked at him suspiciously, his chin tilting up as a smirk managed to slide its way across Daniel's face at hearing the other man's first comment.

"I have a feeling your friend Fiona feels differently about your work," His head turned back towards the photographs, eyes settling on a black and white piece that featured a lake and a dog, sitting alone at the end of the pier. Seeing the canine made him think of Tristan's earlier comment and offer of joining him at the animal shelter. While he'd yet to actually see any of Tris's work, he had a feeling that if he was seeking out clients on a professional level, he had merit to his talent. "Guess I'll just have to make that judgement call for myself, whenever you're willing to share it."

He understood what the brunette had meant, though, doing stuff just for himself. Pleasure for the private life - like his own tea blending. Sometimes it was fun to share secrets with the world but there was something comforting of keeping things to oneself, a nice, simple comfort to come home to at the end of the day.

As his free hand began to fidget with the end of the slightly-long-on-him shirt, fingers began to rub the edges of the soft fabric.

"Guess you don't get many pictures of yourself taken, if you're the one always taking them, huh?"

"Fiona thinks the best of people, even when they don't deserve it." He had a distant look on his face as he appeared to get lost in thought. A small shake of his head brought him back into focus, his attention returning to his blonde-haired companion. "Yeah, if you want?" No matter what anyone else said, he didn't think what he did was anything extraordinary. Mostly, it was a coping mechanism and a s**t one at that.

But Danny didn't need to know about that.

Green eyes drifted over to a black and white photograph of a girl sitting beneath a tree and he stared at it for too long before his brow wrinkled and he glanced towards where he thought the exit might be. As nice as it was trying to get to know each other, Tristan would have preferred to shift the conversation away from himself. It kept him getting too lost in his thoughts otherwise.

"Not very often, but every now and then. Why, are you one of those 'let's take a selfie' people?" His head tilted and his messy hair fell across his forehead, some of the strands long enough to fall over his eyes. "Because, if you want a picture all you have to do is ask."

"I haven't... I don't..."

Shaking his head, he forced out another laugh as he refused to look over to his companion, choosing instead to focus way too hard on the lake pier picture.

"Nah, I imagine there'd be a need for a selfie, right?" His free hand was tugging more relentlessly on the hem of the shirt, "Like, people to send them to and stuff. I'll take a picture on my phone now and again but it's mostly just of the schedule and whatever."

Pictures were not Danny's forte by any means.

"But I mean, if you wanted, we could always give it a try later?"

The question hung in the air, the blonde realizing how awkward it sounded to his own ears. Selfies? Really? He wasn't one of the high school minded girls that came into the cafe, taking pictures of his food and then turning around to take one of himself in...well, in any situation that he found himself in. Guys didn't do that kind of crap - what was he thinking?

Deflect, Danny, deflect!

Tugging on his hand, he gestured towards the exit with his free hand, having finally released the poor, abused shirt fabric.

"Maybe we'd just better grab some lunch or something. Sorry - it was a stupid question. It's your turn to be asking me things, anyways!"

Danny might have been looking away, but Tristan continue to stare at his companion. He took in the flush of his cheeks, the averted gaze, the forced laugh, and the nervous fidgeting with his shirt. All of those things made him frown slightly, had he said something wrong?

"I don't see the harm in taking a picture," he replied, soft and quiet. Danny didn't seem too keen on the idea and he felt bad for bothering to bring it up. It wasn't supposed to be like this, the day was supposed to be lighthearted and fun. A chance for him to get to know his new friend a little better and hopefully reach a point where he would stop relying so heavily on the two important women in his life but -

He seemed to be mucking it up.

"Yeah. Okay." He sounded a tich disappointed, but tried not to let it show. "The university has a few places we can grab food from, unless you'd rather go elsewhere?"

"Yeah?"

There was an almost hopeful hitch in his voice as he finally turned back to look his way. No, no, it made sense in Tristan enjoying taking pictures - what was he thinking, he was a photographer, of course he enjoyed taking pictures!

Think before you speak, Danny!

At the mention of the dining options, the blonde wasted no time in making his way towards the exit, pulling the slightly taller man with him, hands still locked together. Food was a safe conversation topic, right? He couldn't possibly flub that.

"Sticking to this area is more than fine," he agreed, only stopping when they were finally out of the crowded room, lingering by the exit as he allowed the other man to take the lead, "I don't know this campus very well, so either you're going to have to take me wherever or we're in for another adventure this afternoon."

Though the idea of going on an adventure didn't sound so terrible, honestly.

"A picture is a good, solid reminder of a fond memory," he felt the need to point out, shuffling his weight from foot to foot before Danny chose to lead them back out of the exhibit. Tris didn't have very many tangible memories that were tainted with a creeping gray that threatened to consume and pollute all of them. He couldn't help but want a reminder of one of his more positive memories.

He had plenty of pictures of Fiona and Charlie, with a few with him mixed in even if those were far and few between.

Shifting out of the way of a few patrons who weren't paying enough attention to their surroundings, Tristan followed his companion until they had exited the building completely, bright light making him squint as he tried to place himself.

He didn't know the area terribly well, but maybe that was a good thing. They could walk until they found a place of interest.

"How about," he started, slowly, picking a direction that looked like it led off the campus and towards some food shops that had been lucky enough to get a place near a populated school. "We just start walking and pick a place that seems interesting?"

"Then I imagine," Danny said, one shoe following the other as he watched the sidewalk below their feet as opposed to the environment around them. Goodness only knew that he didn't need to trip - not when tripping would send the brunette down with him, "We should probably take one for today, since I'd like to think it's been a fond memory, so far. Y'know, now that Tea Stain of Shame is no longer visible, haha."

Hands gently swung with the walking motion, the blonde suddenly nervous as he realized they were still locked together. Should he pull away? Would Tris? The crowds were far behind him but yet they still latched on to one another, as if scared that one would drift away should they release their grasps.

He was overthinking things, plain and simple. No, he'd enjoy it as long as it lasted - hand in hand with his newest friend as they sought out their next place to conquest together.

"Looks like they've got a few neat places around here. You in the mood for anything in particular?"

Tris's gaze was more focused on the buildings as they past, his mind instinctively wandering to what angles would be best for the photographs. It was likely because they were talking about it and because he was trying to keep his eye out for places to eat that looked appetizing. Only half listening, he ended up turning and offering a soft smile.

"Okay. I think I'd like that," he admitted, letting his eyes drift down to his shoes to hide the slight feeling of embarrassment as it passed across his features. The tips of his ears were red but at least that wasn't terribly visible.

Unlike his companion, Tristan was not worrying about the little detail that they were still holding hands. The notion kept them close, kept them from getting separated and, well, he held hands with Charlie all the time, it was what friends did. Right?

"I don't think I'm too picky." He answered, squinting as he peered at a cafe coming up on their right. "Do you want to try that?" He pointed with his free hand. "Looks like a simple cafe, can't be too difficult to find something worth eating."

"Then it's settled. But you're going to have to be the one to take it, Camera Man." His hand was squeezed for effect, Danny appearing delighted at the idea and unable to suppress his eagerness. "I don't know the first thing about taking pictures - much less selfies - and I don't want to mess up something I want to enjoy looking at in the future."

Wait, wait. Too much info, Danny, too much!

He scaled back his grin to a simple smile, pretending to peer off in the distance to get a better look at the cafe that Tristan was gesturing to. He didn't care six ways from Sunday where they ate at, but it seemed the safest alternative than floundering his way through the selfie conversation any longer. "I think it looks fine. I bet they've got some decent sandwiches."

Something his own cafe didn't offer, sadly. Focused on their sweets and drinks, The Sugar Cube's storage and kitchen areas weren't nearly competent enough for a lunch menu to be served. Alas, he had to seek elsewhere in the mall for his meals, if he didn't bring them to work with him.

"I could go for anything with turkey on it, honestly." The simple things never failed to delight him - fruit salads with a sandwich made for the best lunch to read a book with, after all. "What about you? You're not a strictly veggies kind of guy, right?"

Finally breaking free of the hand that held his (as he silently mourned the loss of the warm feeling), one hand moved out to tug the cafe's door open, both sets of fingers then moving to hold it back in offering, allowing the other man to walk through first. "Because we may have a problem eating together, then, because I'm a guy who likes some meat."

He grinned as he glanced inside the cafe, spotting several empty chairs. It took approximately three seconds to realize what he'd said and how he'd said it, the grin soon overwhelmed with yet another flushed color under anxious eyes.

Scale it back, Daniel McKay, scale it BACK!

"I can do that."

In truth, however, Tristan had no idea how to selfie. At all. He couldn't remember a time where he had selfied and if he had before, it was probably with one of the girlfriends he couldn't really remember. Had Tourmaline liked selfies? Maybe, probably. She liked memories and he thought he could remember taking pictures of her once upon a time, but that could have just been wishful thinking.

With their lunch choice in order, Tristan continued towards it, noting that their hands had still been laced together only when Danny squeezed them. He didn't get too much of a chance to think about things because the hand was gone and once again, Danny was holding a door open for him. Stepping through was easy, gaze drifting from friendly face to the menu board written in chalk marker against a black board above.

A sign said seat yourself! in loopy cursive letters and he was about to head towards one of the tables when his companion prattled on about turkey and...liking meat.

Emphasis on meat.

A little confused about the placement of the emphasis, he smiled confusedly unsure of what the man was trying to imply to him. "I'm pretty easy. No strong feelings one way or another. Um. Depends on the mood? Though...there's nothing wrong with liking meat in my opinion?"

Tristan hoped that they were still discussing food and not some other euphemism he didn't understand. Shaking his head and trying to smile a little more openly, he pointed at a table near the windows. "That okay?"

"Yeah, that's great."

He closed his eyes for a brief instance, regretting several of his choices in life at that very moment. Mostly, most importantly, his mouth and his apparent inability to function like a normal human adult. Christ.

Maybe if he put some actual meat in his mouth he'd shut up and not sound so ridiculous?

Making his way over to the table, they were (thankfully) greeted by a friendly waitress and handed menus that Danny graciously accepted, as it provided a decent enough buffer from the embarrassment on his face. He hadn't heard of the place before - then again, he wasn't normally in the area, either - but they seemed cute, in their quaintness. He wouldn't be surprised if it was a chain, based on how their menus and the boards behind the counter looked alone.

"Sweet tea," He said automatically upon his drink order being requested. Food would take a bit more to decide, all of the lunch menu looking fairly appetizing by description.

Green eyes peered over the top of the menu. Food was still a safe subject - at least, until he mucked it up with another cornball statement again.

"Anything look good to you?"

When time came to order a drink, Tristan debated between sticking with water or following Danny's lead and trying their sweet tea. Feeling a little pressured, because he was making the nice lady wait longer than she really needed to, for him to order he looked up. "Sweet tea, for me too, please." She jotted something down on her notepad, promised to be right back with their beverages before disappearing off towards the back.

Danny held his menu up, where Tris had his lain out on the table, flipped to their selection of sandwiches. His head was bent, shoulders hunched because he was sitting on his hands, while he looked down at the menu in concentration. Curly brown locks dusted his forehead, which was wrinkled, as green eyes skimmed the menu.

He was so focused on trying to decide, to avoid making the nice lady wait again when she came back, that he didn't register the question until a beat later. His chin lifted and he blinked slowly, wetting his lips when he pressed them together.

"Dunno," he admitted. His gaze flicked down once again and he let it settle on club sandwich, that seemed like a safe choice. "Maybe a club, seems like a good, safe bet?" It was hard to mess up one, in his opinion. "What about you?"
