Scholomance began his mental math of how long it'd been since he'd last seen Scylla, and if he'd need to first butter her up with a night out before broaching a new meeting with someone. His rolling thoughts were tacit in his expression, thoughtfully framed as it was, until Encke started and stopped abruptly.

The knight turned, his coat a gentle sweep across the nearest chair, and he looked upon the senshi inquisitively. Certainly he looked the part of leader where he was, reclined in one of the encrusted chairs. It looked very nearly like a throne, he imagined. But past that he seemed to freeze, and then his eyes shot out over the audience of chairs like he was reading a wide paragraph of text, and Scholomance's brow furrowed at the notion. What's gotten into you? Are you having a memory? The questions sat ready on his tongue, unasked, and waiting for Encke to snap from his feverish reverie.

When he returned to their time, Scholommance's expression softened. He looked on toward Encke with an alertness, uncertain whether to expect the senshi to respond rationally or throw himself headlong into an emotional reaction. Granted, they were in a government area, so he imagined any memories would be the dry sort, but…

He could think of more than a few earthly instances where murders were committed in halls like these. Were they taking turns having a stabbing party with you, Encke?

But his alertness proved unwarranted, and Scholomance relaxed the lines in his rigid muscles. Again he resumed his meandering about the room, taking in the architectural arrangements with the choice of now-rotten decor. Nowhere on the floor suggested bloodstains that he could see. A small consolation, perhaps.

"Did you get anything from it? The memory, I mean. Any juicy gossip? Announcements of public hangings? I do love those penny dreadfuls."

Scholomance seemed to be understanding to the whole memories just kind of show up thing, at least.

At the questions he got asked, Encke laughed aloud. It echoed a bit in the room, which disturbed him enough that he quickly shut his mouth and gave an awkward glance around. That memory had made the lack of people stark.

"Nah, no gossip or anything," he quirked a brow. "Sorry to disappoint. But I did get something out of it."

Encke leaned back in the chair. Considering it was a chair that was literally older than most still usable chairs on Earth, it was actually fairly comfortable. He wasn't that inclined to move from it. "I'm definitely part of the government here." It took a couple seconds before he realized he had used the present tense. Likely wasn't the first time he had done that. "Or was. Past lives are confusing. But they were listening to me. The people in the audience?" Encke glanced over the crowd like he expected the people to show themselves again. They didn't. "This woman next to me ordered them all to stand up before I was going to make some sort of speech."

He pointed to the back. "Didn't get all the details on the speech, but seemed important. The doors were open and people were crowding in."

Up until more recently, he hadn't really gotten a whole lot of memories related to his actual governmental role. He had gotten memories of seeing people around, animals, flowers, but not the nitty gritty of ruling. Encke was quickly realizing that role must have been something important, though. Perhaps more important than ambassador supervisor.

Scholomance listened, his lips puckered in drawling thought. "Sounds a little judicial, what with standing up for a speech. Quite official, that. Sounds like you were quite the person to listen to.

And there was more to it than that, he was certain. Even as present-day renditions of old histories, they were only privy to the smallest details — snippets granted to them by the unseen graciousness of their pasts, of their much-too-old starseeds having memory lane trips. And those glances couldn't possibly inform on the long, storied tales that these once-lives lived. What Encke faced just then was a blink in the life of who he was before, missing all the context and afterthought to really bring it meaning. They had to invent their own meaning for it, or deduce something out of nearly nothing.

That was the utter shame of reincarnation, he supposed. They would never fully understand the distant past, even if this method proved marginally more reliable than word-of-mouth histories from an ancestor.

"It's quite fascinating, nonetheless. Standing up there and giving a speech sounds pretty important, you're right. And if people were crowding in the doors, and they're not too different from the people we know, then I imagine you weren't giving a proclamation about how litter laws were getting revised and that there's going to be three more trash cans put into the local park. Unless, of course, your comet-goers were a group of rabid environmentalists. Which, they could be," he hummed thoughtfully.

"Really, though, I think that's quite a start. And as much as I'd like to parade you around your comet to see if any other memories trigger in the old brain, memories haven't really demonstrated that sort of reliability. And I think it's best, perhaps, if we each do a little research about what types of government might fit a room like this. If humans have exhausted all the permutations of government models, then I'm sure we'd find something that fits by diving thorugh the inexhaustible world of Wikipedia.

"Plus I could really go for a coffee about now." And a comparatively larger planet that was hurdling through space at a steadier trajectory around a giant burning globe.

Quite official indeed. Getting someone to get everyone to stand up for his presence alone sounded rather official, never mind the whole speaking to an entire crowd of people business.

Speaking to people wasn't exactly something his was unfamiliar with. He was an actor, after all. But he wasn't usually making speeches at them. Usually, that was saved for a different kind of figure.

Rabid environmentalism certainly sounded like a possibility. It wouldn't have been the first time he heard references to the environment in his memories. He recalled hearing about plants a few times, as few of them as there seemed to be on the surface now, Scholomance was right--that possibility was an unlikely one. Encke wished he knew what he had been talking about in that memory, not just the fact that he was giving a speech. It might have given him more clues as to what was going on.

As it was, though, "I'd offer you some coffee, but I don't think I've ever brought any up here." Encke clearly got the hint, but a glint in his eye showed that he was teasing a bit anyway. "Wikipedia research sounds like a good idea to me. And some water, honestly. This comet seems so dry sometimes."

Sometimes being most of the time, as he still hadn't quite managed to locate an actual source of water.

He pulled out his phone, and offered a, "Shall we go, then?"

"Dry like your humor, right?" Scholomance shot Encke a knowing look. "That one was a real groaner." Has he been laid? If not, I bet I can figure out why.

"Best to head out from here, though. If I may, I'd quite like to explore this place another time. Maybe see some of the other buildings on offer. It's quite rare for me to go exploring on someone else's planet, you see, and I intend to take full advantage of your kindness in bringing me here.

"But with all that said…" Scholomance paused robustly while he mounted the stging area. He cast another glance back at the rows upon rows of empty seats, jutting up from the ground like shark's teeth, before turning to Encke in full. "I think we're quite ready to head out." Extended was the offer of a hand — the perpetual demand for contact instated by both the Code in its dominion over knights, and indivdual senshi planet preferences. Briefly he wondered if the cosmos preferred they hold hands so they don't each turn feral in their staunch solitude.

The trip would be short, he knew, and Destiny City overwhelming with its sudden hustle and bustle. But he could only for so long stand a dead world with an absent heartbeat — that busied familiarity called to him staunchly.

"So long, Encke," he cast back to the planet.
