Part of him rankled at the fact that it got away, and his nostrils flared as he caught his breath. "No," he grunted after a moment. "I did not finish the job." Bjorn wasn't usually a perfectionist, but a hunter's life escaping his grasp got under his skin even more than usual.
He let the head of his weapon bury in the ground as he leaned on it, eyeing Maebe's prizes. He then grabbed the coat only to use it to dry his forehead of human blood and sweat. Bjorn sounded less harsh when he spoke again.
"You were beautiful as well."

"No. No. I was of no consequence. But you! Look-" She backed away and then took a stance that looked as though she was mimicking his bigger form, trying to look imposing. "You were like.. CRASH. HACK! HACKING AWAY! And the Hunter was like oh no, I will die at the hands of this big gorgeous beast of a man, there's no escape! I'm doomed! I must run away! And whoosh!"
She'd become very adamant in explaining, with her hands moving wildly in gesture. In the end, she threw her arms out.
"It never stood a chance against you." And neither did she.

There was something about Maebe's exuberance that touched him. It was that childlike energy which drew an older warrior like him in, that reminded him of the days when he was younger, more carefree. Maybe that was why fate had allowed him to find America too: both carried in them the inexorable charm that made him theirs in their individual ways. There was something more than fond in his gaze as Bjorn looked at her and finally broke back into his usual smile.
"I have had much practice," he admitted before extending a hand out. "Now, would you mind helping me back? I had forgotten how painful dissipation could be."

That easy little smile disappeared when he admitted that he needed help. Little though she was, Maebe immediately scuttled to his side and put his big arm around her shoulder, giving him what help she could.
"Lean on me. I've got you!"
She didn't. But bless her lack of heart, she tried.
