"Tes, we can't. What about Talori? She needs her father." It wasn't as if the idea of leaving was completely off her mind. Dris'rynne had contemplated it more than once over the course of this latest venture. Oba wasn't safe so long as she stayed her current course, but it wasn't entirely out of the question as a home, not so long as one of the girls was still here.
"I can take care of the basics. My grandfather's healer, and I was apprenticing under him before coming here. I can make a list of herbs-" Dris'rynne shifted to sit up a little straighter and immediately cursed. The word was foreign on her tongue; mainly because she didn't curse often, but when she did it was as foul as the black death.
"...I'll just...let the healer look at me, then." There wasn't much use putting it off. She would have to see someone since she couldn't even properly sit up on her own. Maybe they would even have enough magic to help her heal internally?
"It was. Now I just want my family to be happy and safe. This family; the one we made."

"Of course she does," Teslaron retorted immediately. "I'm not talking about abandoning her. She can come with us, anywhere we go. Malila could come with us, if it pleased her..." He tried a hesitant smile. "Lori would even appreciate it, I'm sure. She doesn't like it here to begin with. Everyone knows it." And why should she? To him, it felt like there was nothing holding any of them here. They didn't have family, nor a job they couldn't just as easily get somewhere else. Lila surely had friends, but such things were disposable. She could make new ones.
He rolled his shoulders and leaned back to situate himself more comfortably across from Dris once the task of bandaging her back up was completed. After a brief scrutinization of the wrappings through a skeptical eye, Tes turned the look back to her face and scoffed. "You're so stubborn," he huffed. "I know you can take care of yourself, but why bother. In your state, anything you did healing-wise would just be... Well, sloppy at best, I imagine."
Settling one hand as a brace between them, he leaned forward and touched his lips lightly to the rise of her exposed collar-bone where it sloped out to meet her shoulder. "I'm not saying you couldn't do it. I'm not saying I couldn't do it. But the quality of the work wouldn't be there." He touched two fingers lightly at her side farthest from the wound. "So I appreciate your willingness to see a healer. Besides," he dragged downward, skating his digits down her bare skin. "You never know. I might want to use that belly of yours one day. It wouldn't do to let you go ruining it."
There was little else to do for her in this moment, anyway. It was dark, she was surely exhausted from the strains of her trip and injury, and Tes himself was tired, if not strangely content that the woman across from him was at least back and under their own roof.
"C'mon." He extended his arms to loop one about her and one beneath. "I'll carry you to bed, if you're ready to sleep."

"I'm sure Malila will be thrilled." She couldn't imagine the waterling being gung ho about leaving. Despite there being little for her here Lila had gone to great lengths in assuring her daughter had a good education. As excited as Dris knew Lori would be to leave all of that behind she couldn't imagine the girl's mother sharing those sentiments. There were other schools, yes, but none that had taken so much of Malila's hard earned coin.
Still, the girls would be crushed to leave their sister behind and if Malila needed convincing then she supposed they could just shove her in a sack. It was akin to kidnapping, but at this point in the night Dris'rynne was exhausted enough to consider it. Surely Malila would forgive her one day?
I must really be out of it to consider that.
Dris'rynne stuck her tongue out at Tes, and followed it up with a purely exhausted grin. She knew she was stubborn; but he'd stuck around this long, so evidently he liked it more than he was letting on. The shifter raised her arm to slip it around his shoulders, fingers musing with the hairs lining the nape of his neck. She slid into his hold, trying to help when needed, but for the most part allowing him to take the lead. Dris'rynne used the opportunity to lean up, just enough to n** at his ear, taking one of the pointed frills into her mouth.
"Is that what you want, Tes? Is that your goal?" She whispered into his ear, "To have a baby with me?" Her tone was a tired sort of playful, with just enough of a serious edge that when she leaned back, hoping to catch side of his face, she could see if he meant it.

Despite the still somewhat unfavorable circumstances, Tes found the corners of his lips tugging up into a loose grin. Lila was likely almost as stubborn as Dris. She wouldn't want to go anywhere unless it was her idea, but that didn't seem like the most treacherous obstacle Tes had ever had to face. Things would work out because they hadn't yet, for all his attempts, and it was just time for them to go more positively. For all of them. He lifted Dris'rynne up into his arms and stepped from the bathroom. They all needed something to go well-
"Hyifff- Dris!" Tes jerked lightly at the feeling of her lips against the lower point of his ear fin. "I'll drop you, y'know," he scoffed, readjusting his hold to better accommodate the shift of her weight as well as an attempt to keep an inch or so of space between her mouth and his ear.
Settled again, he stalked toward her bedroom and took a moment to consider her somewhat teasing-sounding question. "My. Goal," he repeated in a drawling hum. "I wouldn't say I just had one goal. I'm a little more ambitious than that. And selfish. ...But yes," he admitted, tone just as soft. As soon as he said it, it sounded like something he needed to defend. "I love Adenah and Annatha. And Talori, of course. My daughters, and I wouldn't let anyone take that from me, but I do think, that if we had half a chance, it might be nice to have more... Together."
He'd always wanted a big family, ever since he'd been 'freed.' He liked the activity of it all. He wanted to be useful, and he knew he could handle it because he already had, and when he was younger and stupider, no less. It could only be better if the family was his, if the people he was serving wanted him there and loved him and looked up to him. And it wasn't as if he and Dris had yet shared the whole process of it all...

Dris'rynne just smirked in a lazy fashion while canting her head just enough to lay it against his collar bone. She didn't know if it was the adrenaline working it's way out of her system or the sheer exhaustion that made her precocious. Taking her boyfriend by surprise, in a positive way, without him being able to immediately fire back was always an satisfying venture. It made the entire night feel a little lighter, which helped the shifter to relax.
"I would like that," she murmured. "It would be nice, to have little ones with eyes like yours." Dris'rynne had been raised as part of a large, blended family and the thought of having one of her own was familiar. The concept of having children with a man she actually loved was new, however, and the thought of preplanning for a future was novel. To think she even had a future after the ordeal she'd just survived was spectacular enough, but this...
This was enough to put a real smile on her face.
Her grip on Tes began to loosen the closer they came to the bedroom, and by the time she even acknowledged that she was in the bedroom Dris'rynne had already lost consciousness, dreaming of a future that was less terrifying and more promising by the moment.

Of course Teslaron had been mentally prepared for the thought that Dris'rynne might not want more children. She'd already had two, and when she'd been pregnant with Adenah and Annatha, she hadn't seemed... especially enthused about it. The circumstances were a little different, but their situation really wasn't, besides the fact that he'd admitted to wanting to be with her.
But that couldn't possibly mean much.
He stepped past the threshold to her room and toward her bed. While adjusting her weight, he awkwardly pulled down the bed sheets and settled the Shifter woman atop them. Dris'rynne looked content for the moment, and she'd sounded certainly more positive than he'd initially expected she would be. She wanted 'little ones with eyes like his.' It was far, far from anything he'd thought he'd ever hear anyone say.
Letting out a low, exhausted sigh, Teslaron perched close at Dris' side, and settled in next to her with an arm draped over her hip. She might have never come back, and he would've just been entirely lost. He eased up to rest his head into the niche of Dris' shoulder and neck and murmured, "I missed you so much, Moon Princess."
