((Please all bare with me I am going to roll then edit my posts as I have a small metric tonne of newbies!))
Tukwana had only joined the Bahari recently. He had heard tales of the pride by the sea and though pride life hadn't really been what he wanted out of life, when he came to the stands, he decided this was where he needed to settle. He had come with his three siblings but only one of them had decided to stay. Idone was his oldest sister and she was so sensible it hurt some times.
The deep blue lion was now faced with what was a tradition of the pride. He had been told that this tradition was normally done privately but now it was a celebration. The waves seemed to be calm today and as he looked around at the tiny cubs that littered the shore he wasn't so sure. It seemed a little irresponsible to him that the little ones were going in to the water but it wasn't his place to say. Striding forwards the dark eyed male waded easily in to the waves allowing his paws to be lifted from the sand. His legs beat out strongly as he found his rhythm and with that rhythm the promise of fish.

Idone had come to the shores with her siblings. Technically she had always wanted to settle down some where but as the eldest female she had always felt it was her duty to watch over the others. Her youngest siblings had moved on, though not too far, they had moved to the Kizingo'zaa and they had come back more than once to visit their older siblings. Now they were settled it seemed they would perform these rites. The rites seemed strange to her, she could already swim after all but it was a tradition of the pride so she ran with it. She had watched as her brother had waded in and set about swimming and capturing fish. He always was very energetic.
She was sure he was speaking to others in the water and possibly flirting. She really wasn't watching her own paws as she made her way to the waves and a particularly large mess of seaweed caught her unawares. A virtual nose dive in to the shallow foam left her grumbling. Hopefully no one had seen her do that. Still it looked like the sea didn't want her today, or maybe she would just have to pay a little more attention. Wading in to the water she allowed the waves to pick her up and she followed after Tukwana. Maybe the sea didn't want to help her but perhaps she could at least help someone else to be more productive.

Kelpie was excited. Her mother had always kept her and her siblings away from the waters edge. Her mother always told them that it was dangerous to go down to the waves but today she had brought the whole brood down tot he celebration. The nerves in her whole body tingled with excitement as she raced for the water. Others had gone before her, one of her siblings was already down there. She couldn't wait a moment longer.
her tiny paws saw her flying in tot he water only to be met with a particularly angry incoming foamy wave. Her mouth was filled with water and she felt a careful paw pull her from the wave. Her mother smiled a worried smile above her and rolled her back to her paws. The waves kept pushing her away from the water and in the end she settled with standing in the shallows unable to join the others for a swim.
Kelpie
Handicap : - 5 Roll: 7 OOC: The water does not favour you today, a sobering revelation. IC: Kelpie is very young and though she is a rogue born cub her mother will push for the rights of any of her cubs not accepted by the water.
The tiny pink cub had watched as her sister tackled the waves. It had seemed terrifying to her. For all purposes she had been told about the dangers of the water. She had also been told that today was a special occasions and even if she failed she should try her hardest. As she approached the water though it seemed to call her in, the mesmerising waves seemed to dance before her eyes and as soon as she stepped in to the salty water she knew this was where she belonged.
As she waded through the waves her paws felt light and as she was swept up in to the water her paws automatically started to move. A laugh of joy escaped from her little mouth and her tail moved like a tiny rudder.

Not unlike the rest of his siblings he was both excited and terrified about the waves. Their mother had taken them all down to the sands. There were creatures every where. So many faces he didn't know having spent the bulk of his young life amongst the creche or with his mother and step father. He knew that Cheveyo wasn't his dad but that didn't make a lick of difference to him. Chev was his dad and that was all he needed. Of course that didn't mean that the pride didn't look at him and his siblings in a funny way. He didn't really understand. He was a cub though maybe when he got older he would understand.
Today was not a day to worry about that though and while a couple of his sisters had already charged in to the water, one, rather unsuccessfully, he was careful to approach the sea. He had always been a cautious cub, he was surrounded by rambunctious family after all. That caution seemingly was going to pay off for the sunset marked cub though as when he got his paws in to the water a gentle wave lifted him and his instincts took over. He swam, his tiny legs kicking out in deep, long strokes. He felt like he belonged. The sea had accepted him.

Orpheus was feeling confident as he waddled down to the shoreline. There were so many other lions here. It was sure to be safe. He told himself that but looking at the whipping waves and plethora of others, his confidence felt a little shaken. A lot of cubs were here, cubs the same age as him. He knew them from the creche had even played with a few of them, but mostly they were strangers. His own siblings were here as, with this celebration all whom needed a rite of passage were here.
The first touch of those whirling waves upon his toes told him this was not going to go well. It was cold and the salt seemed to cling to every molecule of his being. Taking a breath he moved a few centimetres forwards and allowed the water to wash over his elbows. Here, he stood, too afraid to continue onwards as the waves seemed to will him back to shore. Perhaps this was not a good day to do his rites.

Purs had followed closely after his sister. His youngest sibling seemed to have taken to the water like she belonged. He felt a deep envy for this. He was terrified. Perhaps being a tiny bit older had tainted his thoughts. He should be good at this, he was bigger than his sisters. He was stronger. Yet as he and his family had wandered down on to the beach he knew, he just knew, that this was not his thing. There was something about the feel of the air. Something about the way the sky looked.
He just knew the moment he set foot near the water that something bad was going to happen, well, maybe not bad, but not good either. Each flush of water over his paws felt like it was trying to drag him down. It wasn't pushing him backwards but it was pulling him deeper than he knew he should have gone. He was terrified. The water lapped against his feet and he felt nothing but water logged. Perhaps, he would just wait a little longer before going in any deeper.

What had started as an easy swim for Shui had quickly become something much more unfortunate. For the first few moments, he had been moving with ease through the water and it seemed like all was going well... However, as he ventured further into the depths below, he soon found himself in a spot of bother. His paw had become ensnared, seaweed tightly coiled round it in a manner that meant he simply couldn't tug it off - worse still, the more he tugged the tighter it seemed to become.
Unfortunately, with the air in his lungs quickly running out, it was unsurprising that his eyes widened in alarm and he at least attempted to cut at the weeds around him. He lacked the dexterity though, and unable to get to where he needed to be, it didn't seem likely that he would be able to break free!
Elsewhere in the water, Huo had already come to the surface and was swimming with considerable ease towards Shio. He'd just about heard the familiar call of his brother as the butterfly marked lion had entered the water, and had elected to answer his request. It would be good to operate as a family unit for once, they often tended to be up to no good elsewhere and this was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate they did have a bond... Or rather it would have if the fiery lion hadn't spotted the struggle beneath his paws and furrowed his brow.
"What...?" he murmured as he surveyed the antics of the shape below before his eyes widened and he dove back underneath the water in alarm. "Shio quick!"

Fortunately, for Soleil, the events of her challenge hadn't been quite so eventful and no sooner had she been submerged than the water had kindly thrust her back to the surface in a gentle wave. It was with a delighted giggle that she was rolled back onto the soft, white sands, and welcomed with pride by those waiting on the shore.
She might have been young, but as of today it seemed that the ocean had decided that despite her heritage, she was someone that it approved of. She might have received a fanfare, but at the very least it had secured her safety and that was more than enough for the majority of the elders.
...She would be safe, the ocean wouldn't regard this one as a danger for now.

Liviyathan had exited her den on this day feeling terrified. Yet, she had to keep her head up,s he had to pretend that she wasn't afraid for the tiny cubs. She had joked with Cheveyo that he was becoming an adult too, she had even told her babies that if their daddy wasn't afraid they shouldn't be either. Of course, her stomach was full of butterflies, her tongue felt like she had licked the sand, her throat full of glass. Yet, she smiled. She smiled and encouraged the tiny cubs that rolled around her paws. She groomed each one of them perfectly for this day. It was a celebration after all.
Following her litter down to the waves, the sea bellied lioness encouraged each of her cubs in to the water, one at a time, carefully telling each of them how amazing they were, how much she loved them. Encouraging each of her babies as they took their first step in to the big salty water.

Afina had always been a great swimmer and when the king had announced that all cubs would take part in their rites, the head nanny had insisted upon taking to the water to help the youngest of the pride. Her blue hide stood out like a beacon to any youngsters that might need a moment to rest.
She had also created a net which, draped over her back, was full of small fish. She felt that even the tiniest of youngsters deserved to take home a fish on their first swim and if they couldn't catch one she would make sure they returned to their parents triumphant on the day of their rites.
