Jada Chamberlyn

"Thank you," Jada told the nurse with a professional smile, grateful that it would be over quickly. "I couldn't remember. 15 minutes is a jiffy." it was 15 minutes too long, but still fairly quick. Shaking her head, she said, "not a hurry, just need to get my daughter to the art table so I can run by the CPR class. I didn't think to drop her first."

Still, she was taken back quickly, watching Giulia tear gleefully through the provided juicebox as Jada was drained. When it was over, and the model was able to rise again, she gave Nurse Harmony a warm smile. "Thank you so much for your help. Perhaps I will see you when I donate next time!"

And with that, she and Giulia were out the door.

Tristan Lestrange

Tristan's blood time was A+ which meant that it was nothing special and common enough that they probably didn't need any of his blood but Fiona had managed to convince him that it was, at least, for a good cause and with everything he was still attempting to atone for, it was a start. Blood drives helped out those who needed it and he had plenty, so what would be the harm?

Still, he felt sorely out of place as he arrived at the blood bank.

Going places alone was not on his list of things he enjoyed but Fiona was busy with work and he felt like he bothered Charlie enough as was that he couldn't bring himself to send the text message he'd typed, erased, then typed again at least half a dozen times. A sentence now sat in his text box, ready to send if he ever found it in himself to do such.

It would remain unsent, to be erased at a later time.

In the end, Tris had ventured to the the sign up table and carefully wrote his name in block letters on the sign up page. Waiting for a nurse to come collect him was perhaps the most nerve wracking of it all because he didn't know what to do with himself as he waited, shoulders hunched and his hands shoved into his pockets while he tried not to people watch as much as he felt inclined to.

Without his camera to hide behind, things felt stiff and more awkward than they should of. He would grow out of it, eventually, the more used to this new life and identity he got.

Finally a nurse came to collect him, setting him up in a chair and feeling along his arm for the vein they'd stick the needle in. A few questions were asked and a form filled out but most talk was idle chatter used to distract him from the way the nurse was prepping the needle. As far as he knew, he wasn't needle shy but...there were also a lot of things he didn't know about himself.

The sooner it happened, the better.

A pinch and a exhaled oh later and blood was being pulled from his veins and into the iv until it could make it's way into the bag. While the needle insertion hadn't bothered him, something about watching his blood trickle out of him was enough to make him queasy and Tristan opted to squeeze his eyes shut and tip his head back, breathing in and out in slow counts in his head, fingers grasping at the armrests more tightly than he should have been.

This was fine. He was fine. Probably. Sure. Yeah...

Luckily, it was over before he knew it, the nurse returning and detaching him and tying his arm off to stop the blood from continuing to flow. "I'm good to go right?" He asked, though he didn't expect too much of an answer because he was being left alone and struggling to step out of the chair they'd seated him in. There was a head rush and he felt woozy, stumbling when his legs wouldn't quite work the way he needed.

Each step towards the refreshment table felt weighted, heavy, and too long. Maybe he just needed to eat. Yeah...He would start there.

Rhona Lee

Sleet Tempest Snape

Rhona heard that yelp. She knew that yelp. From her chair, she looked up and around for the source, eyes finally settling on that beloved black-haired head. She grinned, forcing herself to first sit up, and then finally stand. A nurse rushed over, but she shooed them away. Rhona was a big girl, and she could stumble over to Xi-wang. And stumble she did, right into the chair next to him. she had no doubt that the activity had exacerbated her pallor, and she only hoped that it wouldn't alarm her student. To that end, she forced herself to smile, however much of a wince that may have been, and leaned back to steady her breath.

"Hey there sweet thing. Come here often?" Her voice sounded pained, but her stomach was doing back flips and suddenly all she wanted to do was sleep. But she still had the CPR seminar to attend before she could go back home for a nap before the big gala. And she would be attended that fancy party. She had donated the food, after all. Or at least a small part of it...

"You don't look much better off than me," she lamented, pushing his bangs away from his forehead to feel for a fever. When she was satisfied that there was none -- Rhona had no idea why there would be, it just seemed like the thing to do -- she smoothed her palm down his cheek. Was it clammy? What did clammy feel like? Was it like... cold and wet? God she was going to be a s**t mom if she was feeling for imaginary fevers and didn't know what clammy felt like. "I suddenly remember why I stopped doing this after high school..."

Surprised by the voice he heard next to him, he'd seen someone's shoes move past him and then the owner of those shoes sit next to him. Looking up at the voice he managed a faint smile before offering a sugar cookie to Rhona. "Only when pressured by a teacher." He answered honestly as he let her hand rest on his forehead before moving down to his cheek, leaning into her touch.

"You look pale." Worried about her, she looked as bad as he felt, maybe worse, Xi-wang couldn't help but be concerned when he knew how he felt and how she looked.

"Never done this before...don't like needles." And he was only just of age as well. He'd never planned on donating blood, it wasn't his thing, but here he was having just donated blood and still feeling sick.

Reaching up with his free hand he moved to check her forehead as well, if for no other reason than to return the gesture, since she wasn't likely to have a fever either.

"Ahh, don't worry about me," she cooed, clasping Xi-wangs hand as he mirrored her fussing. "Remember that I just naturally have a ghostly skin tone. Besides, I probably just thought really hard about eating this morning but forgot to actually eat." She accepted the cookie that was offered to her with a grateful smile. "Once I get something other than cookies into my system, I should be alright." But that didn't mean she wasn't going to eat her weight in sweets while she was here. They were free, after all, and it would be a shame to let these things go to waste, after all.

"You know," she lowered her voice so that only Xi-wang could hear her, "It was actually super interesting for me. Micah wouldn't have been caught dead here. Not in a million years. And if by chance she had shown up, one look at a needle and she would have fled. Rhona," she gestured to herself, mouth now substantially full of cookies, "Rhona didn't mind so much. Rhona also has a bigger sweet tooth." She smoothed Xi-wang's hair again, an automatic gesture that she didn't even know that she was programmed with.

"If I were you, sweetheart, I would go home and rest up. Especially if you plan on going to the gala later on tonight. In fact, that's exactly what I'm going to do after the CPR seminar." Hopefully, Rhona's other student would be attending the gala as well, and she could get the two acquainted as civilians... or maybe she should let them find each other on their own... was there a way to hint? After all, civilian identities were not hers to give away... Eh, she would cross that bridge when she got to it, she supposed.

"They have more cookies, and orange juice." He offered up, though he wasn't really sure he wanted more for himself. His stomach was not pleased with this situation and he doubted food would help, he'd had a lot of food earlier anyway. "We can find food - proper food?" He offered up thoughtfully, looking the other over. She was pale, he knew she normally was, but she was paler than usual right now.

He, having never done this before hadn't known what he would do exactly though he'd had a fairly good idea, so wasn't too surprised. But to hear her he wondered how much of her old self had changed, it sounded like a fair amount. Was that normal?

"Mmm, I figure since I'm doing this I deserve to go to that." Especially since this, donating blood, had not really been his idea in the first place. "Mmm, food first, we can get something together. Since we both look ready to pass out it might be good to be with someone else." Though he wasn't sure how smart it was for the company to be someone who looked almost as bad as the person needing company.

"Come on." Standing slowly he offered a hand. He was cautious and slow, being mindful of the fact he still felt sickish and didn't care to puke in front of people.

"I ate earlier....and got myself worked up before this...so I think I made myself sick today." Hopefully he'd be better by tonight.

Jordan was not prone to fits of kindness or propriety; they considered themself an austere soul, but all that - as always - tended to fade in the face of the usual 'Jordan, socialize at the nice new place, smile and wave so you can get ahead quicker in medical school when that day comes'. It'd never mattered they had no enthusiasm for it; they had skill, didn't they? They were the younger sibling, the brilliant gifted one to fix up where their older brother had slacked, there had never been any doubt their surgical precision would one day become literal surgical precision. "Your sister's so talented," they heard people say, and wanted to vomit every time.

It never got easier to hear it. Not years on. It had been a stupid thought, to think that just because they were eighteen now that their life would be their own; they were still Mr. Riley's prodigy daughter, college prep after high school to DCU to medical school. It was all, in Jordan's opinion, the most ******** stupid thing possible. Nobody ever asked them, though. Aside from the occasional comments about their hair, sideways looks, confused looks, Jordan's opinion didn't matter because their life was planned out until age 30.

But because they needed to socialize and schmooze and look all pretty (******** that, it was a t-shirt and jeans), they'd reluctantly capitulated to having their blood drawn and staring at everyone in the Gala. Kidnapping children or whatever, ******** sake, probably; it was Destiny City, half their classmates went missing for at least two days every year, and maybe one in twenty of those never returned to their parents; the Missing posters eventually taken down. These were the things Jordan thought about as their blood was drawn, as the needle went in and pulled it out piece by piece by fluid ounce, and they felt no real concern about any of it yet. Station by station, people sitting down; some of them pale, some of them less so -

Jordan stood up when they were done, when they were told they were good to go, and the world went white - when they opened their eyes again, a concerned nurse was leaning over them. They'd collapsed against the chair, she said, wringing her hands; they should really sit and rest, she said; had they ever been tested for anemia, she said, with the kind of lamentful smile that implied a case like this was common enough she was only faking alarm for Jordan's reprieve and peace of mind. It didn't matter, it didn't matter; but the room was spinning and their tongue felt like cotton. They sipped at orange juice, picked at a cookie; tried to pretend the fact their legs felt like water didn't bother them, like this was just heatstroke or something, like they hadn't eaten specifically before they'd gotten in the car for this exact reason. Eat healthy. Think healthy. Still pass out when you have low blood pressure?

It was probably just one of those days.

Matt Duffy

Giving blood wasn’t something that Matt had done very often, despite even working in the hospital every time they had a blood drive he was conveniently too busy to deal with the time of having to sit there and watch as his blood dripped slowly into a vial. There was always something better than just sitting around watching the world tick by slowly while watching people constantly flow in and out as the nurses fussed over them. em. The worse part was when they tried to hold some sort of conversation as if he could possibly care about their life story while he sat there waiting. It wasn’t that he didn’t understand the importance of giving blood and and the fact that it was needed and from a doctor’s standpoint it did it at least save lives the problem was he just didn’t care enough.

So the question was why was he standing in line waiting for his turn to take a seat and give blood now?

Internally he groaned, he groaned a lot as a look of dismay had settled on his face, the only reason he had bothered to even get in line was because Kyle had been so enthusiastic about playing their role while they were at the gala. Really he should have bolted as soon as the young man had disappeared from sight to escape but for whatever sense of obligation he remained there waiting his turn to be ushered into the chair.

Another ten minutes of fidgeting in line and finally a nurse showed him to an unoccupied chair and asked him to remove his jacket. He had forgotten this too, as he pulled it off and neatly folded the the jacket setting it on a vacant table near it and unbutton his sleeved. With each roll up to reveal his forearm he cringed, there was regret that he was wrinkling it into oblivion and with each additional crease he almost cursed his entire plan of trying to impress Kyle in some way.

Taking his seat finally he placed his arm on the armrest and let the nurse handle the rest of the work as he stared up at the tiled ceiling. LIke every other hospital it had the same sort of speckled removable squares that if something happened to one they could easily remove it and replace it with something nicer, convenient of course. He didn’t pay any attention as the nurse pressed the needle in, but was aware she had done so following her instruction, gripping the little stress ball to help the flow when it got a little slow. It took forever, dragging on as she continued to check on him until it she seemed satisfied with everything he had given.

Help him to his feet he sat up and wobbled just a little, it was an odd feeling as if something else had been drained something a little more than just blood. Matt couldn’t be sure but he pulled his lips taunt giving the nurse a rather nasty look as she held on to arm to help him over to the table to be reunited with his jacket. Slipping it on he guessed it didn’t matter, the deed was done and he had done his civic duty per Kyle’s request. He left the room looking to where he was to meet Kyle next.

Rhona took the offered hand with a grateful smile, trying to pull on Xi-wang as little as possible while still needing to rely on him for stability. Good god in heaven, this was ridiculous. It was only a little blood! It wasn't like she had been drained, though the similarities were there. A shadow of doubt flickered across Rhona mind because the similarities were strong but... even the negaverse wouldn't stoop so low as to use a hospital for gods sake, and she christ knew that the Dark Mirror Court would never abuse public trust like this. They needed all the good RP that they could get, and if that got out, Ooftah. It'd be a nightmare. No, Rhona had just thought really hard about eating but hadn't actually physically ate. Or her sleep the night before hadn't been as recuperative as she had though. Or maybe it was because she had gone out gathering the night before -- she knew she shouldn't have. Or maybe she hadn't had enough water.

Actually, that had to have been it. Rhona couldn't remember any liquids she'd had before giving blood. She needed to spend more time powered down. Not everything was negaverse.

"I think I saw a little cafe on the way in," she sighed, trying to force the room to slow its spinning down. "Some coffee and something light I think will do I both good." She tried to offer as much support as she was being given. Together they could stumble out of here in one place, right?

Glad to find Rhona not pulling him down or overbalancing him, as he helped her stand up. He slowly bent to get the half filled up of orange juice. With that now in hand he glanced about, sipping at it slowly.

"Mmm, it might." Though he'd eaten before coming here, a lot, maybe something light would help? He knew sitting and not moving around would certainly help. Once he got himself under control he'd be fine. He really shouldn't have worked his nerves up so bad but it honestly couldn't be helped.

"I'll pay?" He offered gently from Rhona's side, never mind the fact he was low on money due to a suit purchase for the gala. He could have, had planned to, just rent something for the night but he'd been talked into otherwise. He now owned a suit he couldn't see himself needing ever again.

"Spend the day together before getting ready for the gala and meeting there?" He questioned then after a few moments of silence, it wasn't a bad idea. They got along well and spending time together wasn't such a bad idea really. They were family - right?

Kyle

It was really a shame that there were days in this day and age when the blood bank supply was so dangerously low that non-emergency surgeries had to be re-scheduled or cancelled entirely at the patients' expense. As a medical student and an aspiring doctor to be, who could blame Kyle really for being both sympathetic and passionate about doing his part to help by getting in line at the queue for the blood donation drive that was taking place at the newly opened hospital?

The screening process had gone smoothly enough. It was too bad that he couldn't rejoin his mentor Dr Duffy in the queue for the blood collection stations following the bathroom break he needed to answer the call of nature. It was all good nonetheless. He could always catch up with him over at the refreshment area after they were done respectively.

Kyle didn't have to wait very long until it was his turn. Sitting himself down on the chair, he listened closely to the nurse who thanked him first for coming forth to donate his blood then went on to explain to him what was going to happen during the collection process as this was his very first time. At the nurse's bidding, he carefully removed the jacket that was part of the suit that Dr Duffy had loaned him for the occasion, setting it on the small side table that was meant for his belongings before rolling up his sleeve to expose the entire of his left forearm.

Leaning back on the chair to try to make himself as comfortable as possible, Kyle smiled up at the nurse who had returned with the procedural trolley and immediately got to work. First was the tying of the tourniquet around his arm to identify a suitable vein that they could collect the blood from. Next, his arm was cleaned with a disinfectant before the local anaesthetic was administered to numb the site.

He had wondered briefly about the need for that if the needles they used were the same size as those that were used for normal blood taking. It was only when he saw the nurse approach with the needle in her hand that his eyes grew wide at just how much bigger it was compared to the ones that he was more familiar with. He also started wondering if he should have asked for more local anaesthetic to help with the impending pain from that humongous needle. Fffff.

In any case, it was too late to regret his decision now so he might as well grit his teeth and bore with whatever came next. Taking a deep breath, he looked away and waited.

...

"The needle's already in Mr Cooke. Just sit back, relax and I'll be back to check on you shortly ok?"

... wait a minute. Did the nurse really say that the needle was in?

Upon turning his head back, Kyle saw that things were indeed as the nurse said they were. The deed was done, the needle was in, the local anaesthetic had worked its charm and not once did he feel any pain or discomfort throughout the entire process other than the initial p***k from the needle that was used to deliver the local anaesthetic. This wasn't so bad after all!

It wasn't terribly long till the blood pack was filled and Kyle was allowed to head to the refreshment area to help himself to the drinks and cookies that were provided to all blood donors. He was surprised initially when he couldn't locate Matt at the refreshment area despite looking high and low for him. Surely the older man would be done by now given that he had his turn at the blood collection station a couple of minutes ahead of him? Perhaps he needed to step out to head to the bathroom?

A few minutes passed with Kyle having his fill of drinks and cookies, yet still no Matt appeared. Kyle was starting to get a little worried and pace along the outer boundary of the blood collection area while wondering if he should ask one of the nurses to see if she could help to locate his mentor when he saw the older man in the distance with a nurse by his side. Very quickly he made his way over, thanking the nurse for her help as he took over the task of holding onto Matt's arm to help him over to the nearest chair at the refreshment area.

"Are you alright? I saw the nurse helping you so I came over as quickly as I could. You should sit down. I'll get you a drink and some cookies."

He fussed over him, a worried and guilty look crossing his face at the possibility that his enthusiasm over the blood donation drive might be linked directly to how Matt was feeling right now.

Exeunt Rhona and Xi-wang persued by bear

The offer to cover lunch almost made Rhona's heart fill. Maybe it was the loss of fluids or the exhaustion that she was now feeling, but she felt... taken care of. Something that she hadn't felt since she left Jett and Raven's place. It was an odd sensation because she knew that Xi-wang was escaping a bad home situation and needed to keep every spare penny that he had, but she also wanted to foster this generosity, because no matter how many times he had been beaten and scolded, he needed to stay soft and sweet.

She hugged Xi-wang close, planting a kiss on his temple in thanks.

"Maybe even just something like a smoothie. Cold sometimes helps upset stomachs." Actually, a smoothie didn't sound half bad. Fruit and yogurt were substantial foods, and the ice would help her own queasiness. And it wouldn't break Xi-wang's bank account, which was really important.

"Who knows, maybe just getting out of here will help us both! Get rid of some of the psychosomatic bullshit, right?"
PostPosted: Thu May 04, 2017 7:24 am

Sabrina Luna had walked into the room with her dad. He was going to give blood, and she stood by his side acting a little shy. She held her dad's hands up until he got up to the sign in table. Her wrote his name and chatted with a nurse a little bit. He even seemed to talk about his beloved hotel. It wasn't long before the nurse noticed her and waved. She blushed a little and waved back. Her dad quickly introduced her. Calling her his beloved daughter, and talked highly about her, and how much help she was. The nurse seemed impressed which only made her blush more. It was then the nurse let her father know about a kids area right next door. "That sounds fun," she said a little loud. And in all honesty it really did. After all maybe she could meet some people around her age, and even find a mystery. Since you know mysteries were everywhere. Just like she had found out the time she built the snowman and met that entire family. She also had made a new friend. So maybe just maybe today would be one of those days for her. Just the thought of that made her smile glow and nervousness slowly fade off her face.

After her father heard her response he smiled and quickly asked if someone might be able to take her there. The nurse nodded and quickly grabbed a volunteer to show her the way. She was a little nervous about going with another adult, but after her father made a small gesture she knew she could trust her. Since after all her father would never let her out of his sight, if he even thought there was a slight chance of danger. He was an overprotective dad like that after all. She took the volunteers hand. The nurse waved at her as her father headed towards the waiting area. She waved to her dad and he smiled at her and raised his phone up. She did the same and exited the room. She knew it would be checking on her constantly, but maybe this was her chance to actually do something here. Since she wasn't quite old enough to help save lives with blood like her dad.

"Does it?" He questioned, having never heard it. He was rather clueless about such things, he only knew what worked on him. He knew cold drinks, especially a lot of them, was not good for his stomach in the winter. He was a bit sensitive in that way perhaps.

"Might help a lot actually, leaving here. I ate a lot before coming here and I let my nerves get to me..." And make him sick. So it wasn't the needle or the blood or anything else. He'd made himself nervous to the point of being sick. Maybe now that it was done he could get better once he was out of this place, to get some distance between himself and this place.

"Lead the way to where we're going." He spoke softly as he made to follow her out of the place, one hand reaching out to grasp at her shirt.

(Exit for Xi-wang.)
