Hoping that the one kick was the only instant reaction that would happen, she tried again to explore the scrapes. She was wrong. Seeing that examining the wound was a bit too much for the moment,
Floating Leaf decided to retreat for the moment. She would get some water,
could always get more if necessary. As she stepped back, she noticed a line where the grass had been drawn down off to the other side of the clearing, where she had yet to go in her own small travels. Perhaps that was where the attacker had come from, or retreated?OOC Footnote Current HP: 16/30 Current Trust: 19 Section notes: Success! 3/3 clues obtained. (1. THIRD TASK: Defense
While nothing seemed to be in the way from that side of the clearing, however, something made a noise behind her. It was a strange, menacing hiss, and Leaf froze. She did not like that sound. Clearly, neither did the foxbun, as it stiffened beside her. She knew that she could not ignore it forever. She would need to face the crocodile, to protect her small friend.
With a deep breath, she turned to face it. It was hideous, deep inky-green with long, sharp teeth. She was not going to enjoy this.
Trying to act quickly, she charged and came down strong with her legs. Leaf jumped back, but didn't want to let the crocodile have too much time to strike. She lowered her gaze and rushed forward again, this time turning at the last moment in hopes of landing a stronger kick with her back legs.
Solid contact! Bolstered by her last hit and hoping to catch the crocodile off guard before it managed to come back to its senses, Floating Leaf took a huge risk and whirled around to try and land a bite against her enemy's tough skin.
It saw her coming, and managed to lash out -- but the doe was ready, wincing against the scrape and kicking out strong. FOURTH TASK: Escape
Floating Leaf was proud of herself, but she didn't want to dally. Two attacks in not much time -- clearly this was not a safe area. She glanced around to try and get her bearings, and noticed that the area was more familiar to her than she'd thought. She had been so focused on the little foxbun that she hadn't realized she was not too far from a grove nearby that she found refuge in often. It would be easy enough to travel there, if she could convince her small friend to trust her.
She approached the foxbun with care, afraid that it would be spooked -- but apparently her defense against the crocodile had put the foxbun a bit at ease about their relationship. It knew that Leaf was there to help. The doe smiled and lifted the foxbun by its scruff for the journey.OOC Footnote Current HP: 9/30 Current Trust: 19 Section notes: Distance traveled: 5/20 units. The first bit of the journey went well -- they left the dangerous clearing and headed toward the path Floating Leaf knew would take them to her sanctuary. She worried that the bun might be uncomfortable as she held its scruff, but at least for now it seemed content to let her do the walking.
Keeping a wary eye, Floating Leaf made sure to watch the edges of the road.
Fortunately, such diligence was not just useful for potential danger. Along the way, she spotted a tall, light green plant that she recognized as a healing plant. She slowed and settled them off to the side for a taste. The tiny foxbun seemed confused, but eagerly munched at the leaves after an introductory taste. After a few moments of rest after their snack, Floating Leaf bent down to offer to carry the bun again, but it seemed eager to walk on its own for a while. Indeed, it seemed much refreshed, and set a brisk pace for them both.OOC Footnote Current HP: 9/30 Current Trust: 19 Section notes: Distance traveled: 15/20 units. Floating Leaf made sure to keep an eye on the foxbun, ready to step in and help it along as soon as it showed signs of being tired, or hurting itself in the process of their walk. It did eventually slow its step, but it seemed happy to reach their goal on its own.
They finally came to the grove Floating Leaf remembered. It was fairly hidden, away behind some trees and between some hills. They pushed past some foliage and headed down amongst some bushes and protective bits of rock. The sun peeked through the canopy above and made it warmer than it would be otherwise. She wasn't sure what it was about this place that made it so special, but she had never felt in danger here. It was secluded, and not too close to any deep waters or dangerous cliffs, and everything here seemed green and healthy. FIFTH TASK: Search
The foxbun found a comfortable, protected spot near the bottom of the grove, and Leaf felt comfortable leaving her there while she looked for more herbs to help the healing process. She wasn't sure exactly what to look for, though. She left the grove and went back to the road, unsure of where to start.
When she reached the road, however, she realized that there was another kin down the road -- a good friend from long ago, someone who had watched over her when she was much younger and had hurt herself. She would know! She had gathered the proper herbs at the time -- she would know what to find for the foxbun!
Leaf ran to catch up with her. She seemed oblivious to Leaf's calls at first, but eventually the doe caught up to her mentor. The conversation is brief, but warm, and Leaf remembers the comfort of help and knowing where to go. Her friend tells her to find a tall, deep pink flower that grows along the edges of some standing pools of water. There is a pond close by that should have the required flowers, and even some more of the pale green herb they found on their journey.
The green doe sets off to find the pond. But the way is blocked -- she finds her path hindered by a huge wall of thorns. Beyond, she can see the glimmer of water, but she has to fight through. Floating Leaf glanced down at her legs, already scraped and torn by her attempts to help the foxbun thus far. But she would not give up. She struck a break in the vines, but the thorns scraped and agitated her wounds. Feeling the sting in the wounds around her legs, she considered her options. She would give her legs a break and try to rip some of the vines away with her teeth. She would hurt, surely, but perhaps she would get a better grip of them that way.
She managed to grab a decent chunk, though not as much as she wanted.

The taste of blood didn't agree with her. Floating Leaf pulled back, frustrated. She would have to do the best she could with her legs again. Turning, she reared back for another kick. Floating Leaf was hurting. She couldn't fight against this much longer. She wasn't willing to risk putting her face into the thorns again, so she lifted her legs again and hoped for the best. Her strike, again, hardly hit its target. She needed to steady herself. She was not striking with precision.

Floating Leaf stepped back, took a breath. She needed to fight against the pain if she was going to do any good anymore. She had to try and focus, to strike with clarity. She was breaking through, but the process was incredibly slow, and she was not slight enough to force her way through the small opening she had created thus far. She had to try again. Stiffening, hardening herself, she sized up the hole she had created thus far and took another step forward. She shoved herself off the ground and did her best to strike against the thorns.
Ripi! Somehow, her hooves hit their mark. Vines shredded before her and she could see the water on the other side. She was so close! She was so tired, but so close to her goal. With almost the very last of her energy, Floating Leaf lifted one leg and struck out against the last shreds blocking her path. It wasn't much of a hit, but it was enough. She could just get through the vines and make her way through to the pond.
