Maybe he should have more of a reaction than just stunned silence. Maybe he should have been more vocal on how he felt about being kissed by, well, anyone. Because while he definitely hadn’t expected to be kissed by a boy, he also wouldn’t expect to be kissed by a girl. It didn’t really even bother him that this was his first kiss. He thought it should bother him, but what startled him more than being kissed was Benji’s reaction.
It was as though kissing him helped to put him better at ease. And the other teen had been looking particularly miserable up until that point. Now he was smiling and looking amused and he’d kissed him again because he liked him.
Where was the line drawn between his own comfort and the well-being of someone else?
But it was more complicated than being comfortable, because it was just a kiss. No, he didn’t have feelings for Benji beyond anything completely platonic, but there really wasn’t any harm in it. And it wasn’t as though Peter was uncomfortable with who he was as a person, or what he thought or how he felt. Benji kissing him wasn’t really challenging that, not like he thought the kiss(es) would.
The other teen was pulling his hand away from his chest now, easing back down onto the bed and giving Peter enough space to get more comfortable if he wanted. He supposed it should be weird that he was surprisingly okay with this, even as his heart beat stupidly fast in his chest because he’d been startled, but the idea of not being alone for the night was more of a comfort than anything else.
“Good night, Benji,” he mumbled, shifting just a bit to settle more onto his back, whimpering softly at the pain in his side, and pulled at the blankets to make sure they were both covered.

"Good night, Peter." The moment Benji made himself comfortable beside Peter, the heaviness of the night and the exhaustion he had felt earlier came back with a vengeance. It was nice here, laying beside someone, something he hadn't done in a long, long time, and wasn't sure he'd be able to do again anytime soon, so he might as well allow himself to enjoy it.
He couldn't help but wonder, though, what was going through Peter's mind as they laid there, tiptoeing the line of consciousness. Was he accepting of it? Of course he was, otherwise he would have been kicked out then and there! But accepting wasn't the same as *liking* something. Nor was it the same as getting a response of if there was a chance for Benji to be anything to Peter beyond his friend. And yet here he was, mere inches away from the other, close enough that he could hear his soft breaths and see his chest rise and fall steadily, even if there was a wince every now and again from pain.
Confused wasn't the word Benji would use about how he felt. He knew how he felt, and it wasn't quit like liking someone, and nor was it simply friendship. It was a desire to keep Peter *safe*, a desire to not leave his side and to see him smile and happy, not beaten and battered in a hospital bed. He had similar feelings for Oort as well, wanting to be the protector even if he didn't know how, and yet it was different, not quite like the big brother feelings he had for the other senshi.
He didn't want to think about it.
He *really* didn't want to think about it, because if he did, if he allowed himself to delve deeper into those thoughts and feelings, he wouldn't be able to sleep. So instead, he slept, and sometime during that slumber, his hand had found Peter's, slipping into it and holding on tight. Deep down, somewhere inside of his unconscious mind, there was a small thought that if he found himself trapped in that dream scape like the last time he was in the hospital, Peter's grasp would be enough to pull him back.
