"To the kitchen!" He announced. Silas didn't have much spending money either. At least, not to spare on eating out. Blushing a little, he shrugged. "I make a mean pastrami sandwich and I have a jar of pickles if that interests you." He added humbly. "I'm very excited about the show and I'd like to get started planning it out and working out the kinks... unless you weren't being literal when you wrote that you could start right away." Silas didn't want her to think she had just been hired by a crazy person, but he couldn't hide his enthusiasm.

Zatanna let out a small sigh of relief, all she had left amounted to about 15 dollars and 77 cents, and she needed it to last until her first paycheck. As it was, she had no idea where she would sleep until then, but at least she wouldn't starve. She also had the option to "subsidize" her needs with magic-- but she didn't like to use it for things like money. Food however was completely acceptable.
"A sandwich sounds wonderful, and I was being literal when I said I could start right away." she smiled warmly. "To the kitchen!" she stood at "attention" with one hand hooked on her purse in a silly feminine version of a salute, indicating that she would follow him.

Silas had a good feeling about Alex as he looked at her in all her dorkiness. It put him at ease, which made it easier for him to be himself. "That's the spirit! Right this way!" The theater was made to house its performers but no one had lived in it for so long that a lot of the amenities weren't 100% functional. The kitchen was the first place that he had fixed up since he got there. The kitche, though humbly furnished, was spacious and had a long table with benches and chairs. "Have a seat and I'll get your sandwich built." Getting to work, he took out the ingredients he needed from the fridge and began to assemble the sandwiches. "This theater used to be the hottest place in town with shows every night. Big sell-outs. Even big names would come to this theater to see the shows... it must have been quite a sight back then." He told her, garnishing each plate with a pickle. "Which is why I know that by the time we're done with it, no one will be able to resist coming to see us." Silas said with a bright smile, setting the sandwiches on the table between them. He sat across the table from her, looking at her and imagining what it would be like. As he did so, her beauty began to sink in a little more. Her fair skin, her long, deep black hair, her bright eyes and smile... "They're going to love you."

Alex-- she reminded herself to think of herself as, followed Silas to the kitchen. He seemed to be at ease as he told her to take a seat and began to assemble the sandwiches. She sat down at the bench resting her elbows on the table, twining her fingers together and resting her chin on her clasped fingers. Then as if like magic Silas painted a picture for her with words about the theater, and spread some of his love for it to her. I wonder if my father performed here... she thought to herself as she imagined it full of people and performers. Her thoughts came to a sudden halt when she realized Silas had stopped moving-- and was also staring at her.
She cleared her throat a little awkwardly and pulled the plate he had made for her in front of her and grabbed the sandwich. "Hopefully not as much as they love you Mr Magician." she said before taking a bite of the sandwich. covering her chewing with one hand and holding the sandwich with the other she attempted to speak then realized she couldn't and gestured a "1 sec" with her finger while chewing impatiently her eyes on the ceiling. Swallowing, she started again. "What do you want to start on first? What's your plan?" She took a smaller more lady like bite of her sandwich this time just in case he asked her to elaborate on her questions.

"I'll have to win them over first." He replied, knowing that he lacked charisma. "I thought you'd never ask." Taking out a deck of cards, he laid them across the long table face-down. "On the face of each of these cards is a magic trick. Select a card and place it face up." He directed with a smile.

Alex tilted her head slightly and swallowed her bite. "So magic first." She leaned over the cards looking them over and twitched her mouth back and forth causing her nose to subtly move. "hmmm..." her eyes shifted up to Silas then back down to the cards. She tipped side to side a few times in an indecisive dance then put her index finger on one of the cards and pushed it towards Silas.
"This one!" she said before sitting back down on the bench and biting into her sandwich again, forgetting to take a small bite.

Taking a card himself, they put them next to each other. "Metamorphosis and The Deadly Bullet Catch." He read with a grin. "That's not bad... what we need is a good transition between the two tricks, as well as some clever patter. Any ideas?" He asked, looking up at her with a smile.

She swallowed a somewhat painful bite because she hadn't chewed it properly and then coughed a few small coughs. She swallowed again touching her throat lightly with her fingers and magic-ing the food to softness down her throat.
"From me?" she panicked internally for a moment. She had created patter many times before-- but it was for her own acts, or her fathers... if he had any experience seeing her father then would he recognize her style? She pursed her lips for a moment in thought. There wasn't much of a choice at this point, she really needed this job. Hopefully her death was convincing enough to distract from any suspicion a person might have.
A mischievous smile crept into her expression as she finally spoke. "I could suggest the deadly bullet catch while you're tied up and helpless to defend yourself." she said shrugging her shoulders innocently. "Audiences LOVE it when the magician gets picked on, especially after the magician picked on people in the audience."

Silas considered her idea and grinned. "I like it! How about this-- we'll switch the order so that we do The Deadly Bullet Catch before Metamorphosis. That way, I can tie you up after you tied me up-- which will complete the revenge circle." He decided, switching the cards. "But if we're going with this theme for this part of the show, we need to do a trick before The Deadly Bullet Catch that picks on a member of the audience... lets put a dismemberment there. The Gila-tine should work." He decided, sifting through the cards until he found it and placed it in front. "Pick another card." He instructed, spreading them face down again. "We'll get about three more and then we can work out the kinks on stage. I already have the opener and the closer."

Alex smiled she really liked the guillotine trick. "This one?" she asked sliding it towards Silas. "Aaand this one?" she said sliding another. She figured he only meant for her to pick one this time, but he had said he wanted three. And it made sense not to pick the third just in case the tricks needed a transition trick. She then crunched on her pickle and sat back.

Flipping them over, he read them aloud. "The Chinese Shadow Box and Telepathy." He told her, setting them in front of the other three. "The Chinese Shadow Box would be a perfect entrance for you." He thought, looking up at her with a smile. "Telepathy is a fun one we can do to interact with the audience more... we'll need to tie it all together somehow." They still needed one more trick. "Would you like to dress oriental?" He asked. "Egyptian, maybe?" He could see her looks going either way. "Or we could keep with the classic tux and hat."

Alex munched on the rest of her sandwich finishing it off as Silas flipped them over revealing the Chinese shadow box and telepathy. She was about to answer him about dressing oriental and then he asked about her dressing Egyptian-- then the classic look. She pursed her lips. Her signature look as Zatanna was pretty classic magician's assistant. She licked her lips, but she wasn't sold on being Chinese or Cleopatra. She tilted her head as she got an idea. "Does this theater happen to have a costume room? I don't have anything Egyptian looking or oriental-- but maybe there are some old costumes that we could re-use?" she smiled hoping he'd go for her idea-- and that there also happened to be an old costume room they could raid.
