“Well…I’m not gonna lie to them about you, if that’s what you’re thinking...why? Don’t you want me to tell them about you? I’m happy to have you as my boyfriend, Xi...I’ve...pretty much already told them I’m seeing someone...I mean, mom knows that you’re a guy, and she...she’s fine with it, we’re working up to telling dad, but, I’m sure he’ll be cool with it too. I haven’t told them that you’re living with me yet...but I mean...you’re not so...I figure I don’t need to tell them, yet.”
Caleb watched the other boy, frowning slightly. “Why are you always so surprised when I want to do things with you...why wouldn’t I want to go to China...and why wouldn’t I want you to go with me…? Like I said, it was supposed to be some great trip around the world thing, but I think they’d be fine letting it be only one country and letting the guy I love tag along...I mean...and it’s not for another year so, who even knows where we’ll be by then...you know?”
He shrugged, his thumb brushing over Xi-Wang’s hand lightly, glad for the way their hands fit together.
“But...I mean, it’s a real thing that could happen, and if things are going the way they are now...I want it to happen.”

“N-no...I just...didn’t know how they would react. Different parents and thoughts...what they accept.” He said, quick to want to correct himself and explain what he meant, his thinking behind his words. He didn’t want to upset the other, never.
“So one is ok with it...that’s good.” That was what he’d been worried about. At least one parent knew...and it seemed like might, just maybe, have an issue with it since he didn’t already know his son prefered males, at least he was assuming so, and they were working toward telling him.
“Will you tell her when I do move in?” Again, nodding his head to the idea that he would be moving in. He didn’t say when but he would be, he liked the idea of it really. It was a nice idea...coming home from school to someone else...to having someone to talk to and just enjoy a rainy afternoon with...or even to curl up with at night.
Watching as the other frowned Xi-Wang ducked his head, fumbling a bit for words and biting on his bottom lip. “It’s not that...it’s the generosity...the thought. It’s a big thing...and if you’d had something already planned..to change it for me. To change what you might have wanted, been planning for a while, it’s special...more than I’d ever expect.” He was trying to explain, hoping the other understood, he wasn’t upset just...it was a lot and he didn’t think himself important enough...maybe that was part of it but it wasn’t the whole reason, and he knew it. There was more to it, like the fact that most people wouldn’t change plans like that -so easily and for someone they hadn’t known long...no matter how much they loved them. That only happened in tv movies and romantic movies they played in theaters, at least that’s what he’d thought till now.
“Maybe...maybe if I explain things more you’d understand better…” Not right now, not over dinner, but maybe tonight before bed? If he explained how he’d grown up would the other better understand? Would they still be a thing, he was fairly certain they would be, but would it help? He just wasn’t used to such things.
“I’d like….I should work to improve my Chinese then…” Which he already was...but it couldn’t hurt to work harder and maybe take more lessons.

Caleb nodded. “Yeah, I’ll tell her when you move in, she seems really excited that I like someone, to be honest…I think that she was really getting worried about me not taking care of myself and spending too much time in the lab.” He shrugged and his smile came back, nodding as he listened to Xi-Wang’s words. “You…you can’t imagine how much you being in my life has changed it for the better, Xi…I…I” I love you.
No…that was far too soon. Far too soon but…
But that’s the way he felt.
“I really like you…and I like the idea of helping you reclaim your heritage, I think that sounds like a lot more fun than just a trip around the world, sightseeing…but…really, I think that’s all because of you too. Having you beside me…”
He shrugged and took another bite of his food, nodding.
“Maybe you could help me learn some too, Xi. Then we can really explore where you’re from. We can really…figure things out about you, since I know that’s all you really want to do, and I think that’s great. I think you’re great.”
I love you.

“I’m glad she is excited...and that I can help you.” Help him not spend so much time in a lab, that he can help the other relax and take care of himself. He liked that he could help someone and make things better for them. The fact the other's mother was excited was also good, had she thought her son would remain single or something?
Listening to the other...the stammer and then not finishing it. He knew, he was sure of it, what the other was going to say. It wasn’t just because it was cliche but the setup was there. It was soon, he knew it, but it felt...right. The feeling that constricted his chest and warmed him at the thought of the other almost saying that, that he must mean it.
Nodding his head slowly, understanding the other's reason now, it made sense, he smiled. “That is what it is...I never had it - not fully...and now...I don’t at all. It’s like an epic tale from mythology…” Smiling brightly he set his chopsticks down and held onto one of the others hands. “I know basic...a little more...not what I should. But we can go together...we can learn together and explore together…” He knew what the other felt, how could he not after Caleb had come so close to saying it? He knew what he felt now but did he call it love…?
He wasn’t sure..but he knew if it wasn’t then it was damn close...enough to fool a person. But could he say it? Could he say the words the other hadn’t been able to?
Hesitating a moment...shy to say it and unsure of himself he forced the words past his lips. “Wǒ ài shàng nǐ le.” He knew the other wouldn’t understand it but that was ok. Because following the rushed Chinese was a translation of the words. “I've fallen in love with you.” While he hadn’t said more in chinese he did say more in English, still rather quick and while his cheeks warmed and he ducked his head. “I-I don’t know how...it’s rather fast…but…” He trailed off them, leaving the other to figure out that things had just happened.

Caleb blinked, wondering if he heard correctly, first Xi had said…something in Chinese…and then followed it with…
Oh.
He swallowed, and then a moment later, a bright smile lit his face and Caleb crossed the small distance between the two and kissed Xi’s lips once again, deep and passionate. The food was all but forgotten, and Caleb whispered the words that he had been longing to say for days now…perhaps even weeks.
“I love you too, Xi-Wang…you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I love you and I’m so thankful that we met…It really…it really was…destiny…” He drew out of the kiss and looked into the other male’s eyes, sighing in contentment. “I love you.”
It seemed that he couldn’t get enough of saying the phrase.
And why should he? He hadn’t ever found someone that he wanted to say it to before.

With the conversation being what it had been, talking about learning Chinese, it had felt...appropriate to use it when confessing. He’d had to translate though, not wanting to put Caleb through having to figure out the spelling and then looking it up, and hoping to get a proper translation. He’d hoped he hadn’t rushed his words too much, that the other would understand, and when it seemed he had…
For a moment he did worry they might knock something over on the table, considering the plates and glasses that were close to them on the table. When nothing fell he was content to return the affection, pressing his lips back against the others. Slender fingers, attached to an equally slender hand, moved to cup the other's cheek gently. Caleb’s words were sweet, warming, and meant the world to him.
The eye contact was a bit...well it made him feel shy. In an effort to break the eye contact he pressed his lips once more to Caleb’s, fingers gently running down his cheek before he settled his hand on the others chair. “Should finish food before it gets cold. Then we can watch movies….like you mentioned earlier.” Which really amounted to not watching movies but just letting them play in the background.

Caleb nodded. “That sounds good to me. We’ll finish eating and do the rest of whatever we feel like doing.”
He felt like he could sing, seriously, just felt like he could start singing right there.
A part of him really didn’t want to stop kissing Xi, but...the food was really good...with a sigh, he pulled away and put another mouthful of the stuff in his mouth and chewed thoughtfully.
It had been such a good night so far...and the best part was…
It wasn’t over yet.
