Her question ignored, Hawk narrowed her eye but nevertheless replied, "One. You are not her." It's not often a single soldier could fight off so many traitorous gems at once. It is because of her that I am still functional. "State your Facet and Cut," Hawk repeated, keeping her weapon ready.

"I don't remember," Clear also repeated, but no matter how he spoke, despite his expression and body language, his voice was almost unnaturally straight-faced, "but I recognize your essence. You were in trouble, being attacked by rebel soldiers. I had my squadron cover for me while I helped you fight them off." His weapon, too, was held defensively, "I understand why you don't recognize me. My gem was chipped and I made some... changes."

It was absurd. This entire situation. That traitor. Their past. On one facet, Hawk's Eye just wished to obliterate the gem and be done with it -as dictated by her Diamond's orders. Following orders made everything easy, after all. On the other..she was no longer certain. "You are..were...her," mumbled Hawk. She faced Clear Quartz with a mixture of confusion, disgust, and something she could not quite classify and inquired more loudly, "Why you, of all quartzes? Why would you, who fought so valiantly, so confidently -" Hawk broke off, looking down and gritting her teeth. Her crossbow tilted downward. It was incredibly unusual for Hawk's emotions to surface-not to mention during a battle of all things. She shook her head as though trying to clear the useless thoughts before looking back up at the quartz with renewed vigor. "How could you betray Pink Diamond? Homeworld? They created you!"
(("On one facet" = "On one hand" Thought that'd be fun.))

(I like that! I have similar headcanons like that; one of my favourites is their way of saying "manhandle" is "quartzhandle" and they use different cuts for generic nicknames. Like "fine cut" is like saying "honey" ) Clear lowered his flail entirely and gestured to his gem, "I was broken by a rebel soldier, but Rose Quartz used her healing tears to fix what remained of my gem. Do you think the Diamonds would have done that for me? They would have shattered me completely or left me for shards," his face became contorted with upset, "Rose was merciful and caring, not like the Diamonds who don't care who gets lives or gets shattered, unless it's one of their own, I guess."

Archives of Sin (I like that! I have similar headcanons like that; one of my favourites is their way of saying "manhandle" is "quartzhandle" and they use different cuts for generic nicknames. Like "fine cut" is like saying "honey" ) Hawk's crossbow-wielding arm fell completely to her side. A look of disbelief crossed her face, as she attempted to comprehend what this gem was spewing. "Is that how they manipulated you?" whispered Hawk to herself. Louder, she asked, as though wanting to confirm the truth laid before her, "The rebels hurt you irreparably and then heal you so that you can fight against your former allies?" With every syllable, Hawk's voice became increasingly laced with fury. "What does it matter that the Diamonds would shatter us? They created us in the first place. Our purpose is to serve them. There's so many of us that we are dispensable! Once we cannot fulfill our duties, it is efficient for us to be disposed." Hawk's eye twitched with annoyance. "And answer me this: Why did that traitor quartz heal you only to have you battle against home? And why are you fighting for the rebels if it's just that quartz who granted you mercy -as preposterous as that sounds."
((Nice, nice! I really enjoyed "nice mass" from one of the SU shorts. xD ))

(Yeah, that was funny xD I also have a headcanon they use "precious" as a patronizing term, like how we say "suck it up, princess" and similar things, or used as a way to say "I love you" like "you're precious to me", like a contextual thing.) Clear held up his flail defensively again, and opened his mouth as though to shout, but no sound came out, so he tried to calm himself, "Rose was not the one who broke me, and it was never her intentions to have anyone shattered. She would have rather had gems bubbled or converted. After she healed me, I was not expected to be on the front lines, so I supported the rebellion from behind. Yes, we are made to serve the Diamonds, but we don't get to choose who we want to be or... what if we want to be something else?" He gestured to his physical form, "I became a traveler after the war, and I prefer it by far over the soldier I used to be. Instead of attempting to take life," he gestured to the flora around them, "I can admire it. The Diamonds would have never let me do that. I even changed my physical form, down to the pronoun I use. I might be... limited, but I am unique, something they wouldn't appreciate on Homeworld."

((Hawk didn't step closer. She's warily maintaining her distance. razz Also, hilarious and wonderful headcanon. xD )) This gem..was a lost cause. Or was she? Nothing she said made any sense, but perhaps this was an effect from the final weapon used in the fight against the rebellion. Or the rebels had, indeed, manipulated the quartz. ...Could it be the damage to her gem? Either way, what use was there in arguing with the insane? A clarification could not hurt though. Hawk returned to her calm demeanor and stored her crossbow away. I can complete missions later. Understanding how the quartz has regressed to this state is first priority in stemming future rebellions. "Clear Quartz," began Hawk in an even tone, "I did not say that Rose had hurt you. You, yourself, mentioned it was one of the rebels who did such a thing. And you said that you were not expected to fight in the front lines...Does that mean you were expected to contribute to their battle either way? Or does that mean you freely chose to support the rebels in fighting your former allies? Why would you not just flee then?" Hawk's Eye shifted to the "at ease" position and continued observing the quartz.

(I fixed it, and thanks xD) Seeing her put her crossbow away gave Clear enough security to let his flail disappear, "I chose to fight alongside Rose Quartz when she explained why she and her allies felt how they did for the Earth. They showed me not only the life and potential of this planet, but the potential in all of us gems. I could've run away-- I'm hardly combat-ready anymore, but I chose not to because I didn't want to be the useless defect the Diamonds would have seen me as. That was the point she was trying to make, that we can choose what we want to become or do. She asked me for my help, saying I could refuse if I wanted, but I didn't because I wanted to repay what she had done for me by fixing my gem." He thought it was equally pointless to talk sense into Hawk, but it might not work; it seemed she was loyal to the Diamonds and that was that. Still, he had to try.

(( Will edit this later (have to do some work). Just laughed out loud at the both of them thinking it was pointless to argue)) So it was willful betrayal. She remembers how Homeworld is.. "Was"? It has been a while. Means her memories are intact. Less like manipulation. Weapon or gem damage may have altered her thought process. As her rumination continued, her gaze had found its way towards Homeworld's direction. Of course, though, this strange planet had to have those white, soft-looking objects blocking her view. In previous missions, she had seen other similar, different colored ones. What are they? She shook her head and looked back at the quartz. Focus. Apparently, the quartz feels indebted to the gems who had damaged and then healed her. Why bother with the appearance of being defected for the rebels? Implies admiration. Respect? Why? A couple words repeated themselves in her head -"life" and "potential" and "want."
After a couple more seconds to pick her words, Hawk replied, "A gem's potential is predetermined by the type of gem and the condition of the hole whence it was created. What other potential is there? What potential is there in this failed colony? Before the rebellion, it had the potential to create more gems for Homeworld." It still does. Hawk shifted her weight from one foot to the other before resting, centered, again. "And 'life.' What is so special about the lifeforms of this place compared to previous colonies? Those had life, too." They were all primitive or mindless, too. "And 'want.' Why do you 'want'?"
Are orders not enough? Is it not fine to just complete your purpose? Where and when does "want" come into this? A vague sense of discomfort made itself known. A slight, barely discernible frown formed on her face, as she shifted her weight once more.

Seeing her confusion made Clear remember asking similar questions, "the life on this planet is not as mindless as it looks. I mean, some of them are, but a majority of them are very intelligent, the humans especially. Have you ever interacted with a human? They're truly fascinating in how different they are from us. They have this uniqueness... they choose their purpose, and they do amazing things with it. They build their own settlements, they're constantly breaking their previously-established limitations," he pointed towards the sky, where Homeworld was, "they can see our planet in space, from here, with their limited technology. They constantly have this... this desire to create, to be better, it doesn't matter to them if they're not good enough right now, because they strive to become better. They constantly are changing, and not just them-- everything, from the flora," he picked an enormous leaf off one a nearby strawberry plant and held it forward for emphasis, though with his transparent hands, it almost looked as though it were floating on its own in front of him, "to the evaporated water vapor you see in the sky," and pointed to a cloud above them which slightly obscured the sun and casted a faint shadow over the area, "is always changing, it's never the same. Don't you see how fascinating that all is? We aren't supposed to change like that, but Rose Quartz wanted to prove that we can. So, I did, and so can you, don't you think that's something special?" He started to smile, thinking about it, "we can learn so much from the humans. It doesn't matter to them that their existences are inherently finite, especially next to us, because they know how to make the most of it all, and that life will continue to grow and change and improve without them."

The humans..Bipedals and hairy on their heads. Hawk's Eye had seen them before. She recalled even meeting a couple. Some had poked and prodded her; others had regarded her in fear. Either way, if what the quartz was saying was not a fabrication, those creatures had progressed incredibly quickly. But what did that have to do with anything? Could they benefit Homeworld? They were thinkers and creators, but Homeworld had those too, including spaces designated specifically for that purpose. Noticing the quartz's movements, Hawk's attention snapped back and noticed the "flora." Her head followed Clear Quartz's hand and towards the white objects that were apparently formed from water, and she noticed that they had moved so that the direction to Homeworld was left unblocked. This is a dynamic place. But...learn from humans? Hawk's Eye nearly dismissed the thought, but the seed of doubt had been planted. Perhaps the humans could be re-purposed to serve Homeworld. We could teach them our current technology..and see how far they advance from there. That may be a dangerous move though...supposing they use it against us. She had observed their pugnacity, their avarice, and... A flashback of the horn helmet-wearing humans boisterously celebrating played in her mind. Their camaraderie. She frowned and crossed her arms, as she thought of her next words.
"Show me then, quartz. Show me what makes this such a wonderful place." ((Sorry for a belated post. Been busy lately.))

(It's cool, me too) Clear wasn't quite expecting that answer and looked a bit confused, "well, okay," and put his free hand to his chin in thought of where to begin, "that's hard to say, though. There's a lot of beautiful and fascinating things on Earth, but I guess I can start with this field," he dropped the leaf and gestured for Hawk to follow him, "come, I can start by showing you some of the lesser life forms that inhabit this planet. They're all very fascinating in their own ways."

Hawk's Eye raised a foot and hesitated. She watched the "flora" flutter to the ground. Was this the right thing to do? Should I report to the Diamonds? No..I shouldn't bother them with such small matters. This can be evaluated by a foot soldier first. The step fell and more accompanied. While any visible signs of reluctance had dispersed, a healthy amount of skepticism remained, as Hawk followed the quartz.((Let me know if you think the RP should be heading towards a certain direction.))

(will do) "To start," Clear started, "have you ever just sat and watched some of the creatures here on Earth?" He started to squint and looked around the area, until he seemed to see something in the distance and gestured for Hawk to follow him that way instead, "they don't reproduce by growing new creatures like we do."

((Hoping schedule will be nicer to me soon..Would it be helpful at all to give a heads up for when I'm going to be super busy?)) "No," Hawk flatly replied. She looked in the same direction and merely saw more of this planet. "What do you mean by not growing the creatures? How are they formed then?" She couldn't even begin to imagine what the quartz could be talking about. Creatures have to start from somewhere. Perhaps they expel seeds that grow into more of them? She continued following her while meticulously picking steps that avoided the flora.
