"Optimism is so much better than pessimism," said Adrien, with a nod of his head. "I like happy things. And I like being positive about things. Being pessimistic is just a lot of effort. Besides, sometimes it's just better to be cool about things."
He didn't seem to mind if it was heavy or not. Adrien grinned at Shahar.
"Oh, so like, sweet, but not like, horribly sweet, so sweet you can't actually finish," he said, with a nod of his head. "I get you. I don't mind bitter chocolate, either, but I would rather have the sweet kind, it's just so much better, I think, and really delicious."
He positively preened at the compliment, Adrien giving his hair a little dramatic flip.
"I'll never let myself go bald, if I can help it," he said airily. "Not after all the work I've put into letting my hair look this great."

"I am optimistic that sometime before we turn into skeletons this إمرأة عجوزة will get out of line and I will be able to go home and turn on Once Upon a Time." She shouldn't do it. (She wanted to.) They were in a grocery store. (You only live once.) As grandma walked away, she casually asked, "Would you like to come and watch it with me?" Test the waters. Do not make overtures. Just dip a toe in. Then dive head first. She waggled her fingers at the checkout woman, whose scowl and clear depression was second only to a high school student on exam day. "I do not see you as being like to go bald anytime soon," she assured him. "It looks like we will get to live the rest of our lives outside of Hell Checkout."

He didn't understand what Shahar had just called the woman, but it sure sounded pretty. Adrien grinned at her, straightening up as the ancient crone finally started pushing her two carts worth of groceries away from the checkout counter.
The offer to come watch with her, however, was a little unexpected. Adrien's brows rose, a little smile touching his lips, and maybe, if it had been another time, another day, he would have accepted. Except that his mind was stupidly full of a dark eyed, blushing cutie that he couldn't erase no matter how hard he tried, and frankly, Adrien wasn't trying very hard at all.
"Would if I could, but I can't," he said, and his cheeks were very faintly flushed just thinking of Yuuri. Adrien gave a delicate cough. "The offer's super kind of you, though. Would you take a friend check for later? I mean."
Adrien gestured at their carts.
"We totally just survived the Checkout from Hell, that's gotta be some good friend bonding, right?"

He grinned, straightening, and his rejection was so polite. Shahar gave him an easy shrug and smile. "Friend check for later. We can celebrate our survival in style." She dropped her few items on the belt, and met the cashier's eyes. "Do you know what day it is?" she asked sweetly, and watched the lips thin. She felt kind of bad. Turning her attention back to Adrien, she pulled an old receipt out of her pocket, scribbling her number on the back, along with her name- Shay. "When or if you want to call in the friend check. I will tell you where I am in Once Upon a Time."

It was always nice when someone took a rejection in stride. And besides, Shahar looked like she was a nice person who was also a lot of fun just to be around. Adrien grinned at her, then gave the cashier a little wiggle of his fingers in greeting as he began to pile his own scant few items onto the belt behind Shahar's.
"I think that's a fantastic idea," he said airily. "We can get drinks."
The receipt was tucked away into his pocket for safekeeping. Adrien beamed at Shahar.
"I think I'll totally have to check up on where you are in the Best Show Ever."

The cashier was slamming Shahar's items through the register; beer, condoms, coffee, candy, batteries... a good night could have been had by all. Still would. Would Sid come watch this television show with her? Or maybe she could call up some other friends... hmm. Pizza, television, company. Yes, sounded like just the thing to make today not an utter waste of being awake. "Drinks it is," she told him cheerily, letting her accent roll thick off her tongue, "I love to drink and play darts." she leaned in, amused. "My aim sucks when I am sober. It is easier to play drunk." A throat cleared, and she eyes the cashier. "Oh, is it that time already?" she checked the total, tugged the money from her wallet and passed it over. "If it is not the best show ever, Adrien," she played with his name deliberately, narrowing her eyes at him, "You will be buying the first round."

Adrien's list of things were not entirely as far off as Shahar's, though with somewhat less of the condoms and the beer and more coffee and chocolate (though, thinking about it, he probably should have picked up some more of the former just in case - no...no, there would be no just in case, not when a certain someone was ignoring him still).
"Drinks and darts!" said Adrien brightly. "That sounds awesome. It's a plan."
He flashed the cashier a winning smile, then gave Shahar one as well, heaping the last of his chocolate onto the counter.
"It's gonna be the best show ever, so I expect a great first round of drinks," Adrien said breezily.

Paid up, the bags were practically being thrown at Shahar. "Drinks and Darts," she confirmed around the crinkle of plastic in her face. "If it pleases me, I will even buy you the good booze." she beamed at him, tossed a snazzy salute. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Adrien. I feel like I have known you for years."
