"No idea. Probably something that will kill us." He said as he continued dusting it off.

Staring at it, he leaned in and knocked. "Housekeeping."

"Hm? Oh, thanks. Never know when it might be useful," she said, taking the runic stuff from Jordan.

She was right behind him on the way to see what Melvin had found. "Oh, what have we here?"

She was more than happy to stand there and watch while Melvin knocked on the door. Was it a door?

"The tablet isn't showing much." Yet, anyway.

"What did you find?" Myron half-jogged closer until he reached the base of the door as well, Connor also in tow from behind. He checked the door. "Help me push this open."

Without waiting for any cue, he just began pushing, and with a fair amount of effort from everyone, the giant slab of the door was pushed open just enough for one person at a time to get inside.

Experimentally, Connor flicked his flashlight over the entrance a few times, revealing stone stairs and then dropped a rock down the stairs. The noise trailed off for quite a while and he whistled lowly. "Just a quick look, if anything gets dangerous we meet back up here." He began to hand everyone flashlights and then gave Myron a strange look. "Maybe you should stay and guard the entrance."

"I- I can come!" the trainee said, voice quavering but looking a little determined. "Please don't leave me outside alone, I'd rather go where everyone else is going."

Having settled that, they walked for quite a while in silence down, down, down the stairs and then what looked like a massive, crude tunnel suddenly cut through the stairs. There were stairs below, there was left of the tunnel, and there was right of the tunnel.

"Pick a direction," Connor said, "Or we could all stay together, or small groups. Up to you guys."

Jordan put his shoulder into the pushing, and the door grated open with the group's efforts. He slipped inside when it was his turn and pulled his flashlight out of his bag.

He entirely understood the trainee's reluctance to be alone in the desert, and he gave the guy a sympathetic nod.

"Groups," he said, when Myron suggested splitting up. "I don't trust this place."

Stairs under the Sahara. That wasn't always deadly, right? Sherry looked down at the tablet again, before following the others down the stairs.

"I'm for small groups, too. Alone isn't safe." Not that exploring these tunnels was save, either, but it was safer in groups.

Melvin stared down the steps and looked over to the rest of the group. "Wonder if we can hire their contractor." Those were some nice steps after all.

Taking a flashlight, he turned it on and watched as it shown light before being swallowed by the deep shadow pit below. Well that was at least useful to not trip.

Following with the group, he tried to see if he could make out any carvings or etchings on the walls as they walked down and stopped when the group saw a tunnel leading in two directions and the steps going down.

"Well Fred. I'm fine with going with Daphne. I don't think Scooby would like that it seems. I'm fine with whatever. I say down the murder stairs though."

"Right, down the murder stairs, together then," repeated Conner, suddenly talking a little quieter. "Not too far though, just enough to see what's going on." He stared reproachfully at the large tunnel passing. "Maybe it's better for us to give that a wide berth.

They continued their way for a bit until the stairs naturally grew brighter, a warm lighting covering the area. The corridor stretched outwards until it flattered and turned into a massive cave, larger than a baseball stadium. The most unusual thing lay in the center of the cave, which was ankle-deep in water. It looked like some sort of massive exoskeleton, vaguely in the pale shape of some insect. The shedding however, filled nearly half the floor, winding longer and longer, each individual leg greater than five Jordans.

Sherry's laptop began to go haywire, remarking a massive surge in Fear in the location, enough that it was flashing warning repeatedly.

Myron, who was clinging to the back of Melvin's coat, suddenly let go and paused. "D-did you guys hear that?"

In the distance, a dull roaring noise. It was getting louder as the water around then began to churn violently. Conner remained petrified, frozen as to whether to fight or flight.

Jordan looked to both sides at the tunnel, then followed the group down the stairs. Experience and logic both said that it would be unwise to split up completely, and he was sticking with that thought.

He moved forward to get a better look at the shedding when they found the bottom of the stairs. "That's not encouraging. It's probably bigger now," he commented.

The noise grew louder, and the water began to churn. Almost reflexively, Jordan moved clear of the group to give himself a little room and summoned Ferros. "Run," he yelled back at the others. "Get back up the stairs if you can."

Murder stairs. There had never been a better name for stairs like these, nope. Sherry almost sighed. No, none of that. This was a search and possibly rescue mission. There was no time to be worried about murder stairs.

"Oh, dear," Sherry breathed. Jordan had a point. Things molted so they could grow that was --

"Um. Scanner's freaking out. Fear reading spiked! Be -"

She didn't need to tell anyone to be careful or wary. They could hear the noise, they could see the water.

"Go," she said in the direction of the trainee. "You heard him." Not that she moved herself. Others first, then she'd worry about herself.

Melvin stopped at the end of the steps and eased into the shallow waters, glad they were not deep, acidic, and didn't appear to be filled with anything wanting to digest him. What he did see in the massive cavern was the shell of something, and he could only think of a few things that had shells and molted. Bugs. Famine. Made sense with the Sahara, but if something that needed this much room, then it must have gotten in or out of here.

Melvin wondered if he could get a sample. A exoskeleton was a construct of a Fear creature that for some reason didn't turn to dust after it left it's host. Was it strong? Brittle? Was it a material that could be used?

Curious, he shown his flashlight on it and wondered if he could pick a piece of it, when he stopped and heard the noise. A roar.

Turning, he turned Myron about and pushed him towards Sherry. "Go!"

He then moved to grab Conner. "Let's go." He watched Jordan, summoning Saliva in one hand as he urged Conner. "Jordan!" He called, wanting him to get closer.

They said together. Time to stick to that plan.

The rumbling stopped just as Myron made it to the base of the stairs. Connor paused for just a second before moving to grab Sherry's hand, to give her a boost back onto the stairs followed by Melvin-

- And that was as far as anyone got before the ground underneath them caved open, wide, wide, open, like some horrific cyclone dissolving under their feet. Teeth, rows and rows and rows of teeth, each one at least twenty-feet long lined the fleshy mouth of the creature as it tore the entire floor lining into a massive hole. The only thing that had saved them were the foundations of the stairs.

"Run," It was uncertain who had yelled that, but the stairs were still in tact, they were still stable, and it was just hushed voices and yelling until they reached the intersection above them, the tunnel. The steps upward had been caved in, leaving only the left or right directions. The ground underneath them was rumbling again and Myron was whimpering.

The creature didn't appear immediately, and Jordan moved back toward Melvin, then retreated to the bottom of the stairs after the rest of the group -- and just in time, as the floor itself caved in, everything below and beyond them vanishing into a horrifying, tooth-lined maw.

He kept to the back of the group, stealing glances back down the stairs when he could as he ran; it probably wouldn't come at them visibly, but it didn't hurt to watch. "Left," he yelled as they hit the intersection and found the stairs upwards blocked. There was no time to waver, only to pick, judging by the sounds coming from underground. "Go left!"

Sherry accepted the help Connor offered, but the rumbling caused her to look back and see - well. Enough. Oh, damn. Yeah okay up the stairs was good. At least until there were no more stairs to run up.

"Left. Ok!" Sherry was more than happy to stay together as a group. She paused long enough to make sure everyone was still moving before turning left herself.

When he thought big bug and saw massive leg sheddings, he thought maybe this thing would fly or scurry in, but the ground opening up reminded him that yeah - that was a thing that happened a lot in the Sahara. He should have known.

Following with everyone else and constantly checking ahead and behind him to see that everyone in their small party was together and accounted for, Melvin watched as the entire floor showed more and more rows of teeth. Saliva was giddy at the reveal, sighing at a familiar nostalgia of her glory days that he REALLY didn't have time to hear about an had to keep her focused from diving into. Talk of maw whirlpool techniques could wait till they got home.

Racing up the steps, Melvin just really had to mentally commemorate the being who made these stairs. Sturdy, able to stand against cave-ins and monstrous kill bugs, and it was all rather level too. Murder stairs were just a fine piece of work that he was sure a group of Mists would really appreciate.

As they went up, he rose his hands up. "Of COURSE the stairs would be blocked!" He shouted at the universe and heard Jordan bark at them to take the tunnel left.

"Fine!" He called back, making sure Jordan was still behind them and looked ahead to make sure no one turned right. "Left! Everyone keep close. Don't fall behind. Jordan, you keep up!" He shouted as he followed behind the rest.

They made it relatively far into the tunnel, when everything shook once as warning-

- And a hundred yards behind them, the head of the massive worm burst into view, followed by a body that just extended longer and longer-

-and longer.

It made a rattling noise followed by a series of high-pitched clicks as the tunnels began to shake horrifically under the pressure of it rapidly chasing after them and gaining, thousands, millions of long needle-like legs propelling it. It was monstrous in size.

"There's no way we can outrun that thing!" Connor was practically screaming at them as the serrated mouths got closer, and closer, and then close enough to smell the foul stench of ripe flesh and dead bodies. The Hunter was practically hysteric. "We're going to die."
