Night 2
Tonight's challenge is.... Ramen!

"I'm sure my fellow lowbloods know the joy of instant noodle packets! For tonight's challenge, you'll be making us some ramen with a bit more quality to it. A broth, noodles, some vegetables and meat.... Yummy! Don't hold back on me now!" Cerise said, putting a hand on her hip. "Get ready to make the best soup of your lives!"

((Also some belated replies from Cerise... (imagine they took place in a time that made sense lmao)))

Cerise looked at Guo's slider and gave him a thumbs up. "You're pretty good at cooking with trash! Nice job," she said. "I'm sure the other judges will like it, ehehehe~"

sorry for the extra quotes, wanted to get this in P:

The redblood shaked her head at Tsarzi. "You did so good! But you gotta understand, it's the first night, so it's an appetizer. You keep those small, even when you're hungry! And just order more! Or steal from your friends, whatever," she said, waving her hand dismissively. "Also, I can say whatever I want because this is my booth! Ehehe!"

Lucky! Someone tried to sabotage you, not knowing that you desperately needed whatever they gave you. (+3)
Inspiration! Cerise takes pity on you and offers you a tip that saves your meal. (+4)
Garnish! What a dumb garnish you put on it at the end, which totally ruined the dish. (+1)

Invira walked towards the first booth that her eyes and sniffnode led her to, and took a moment just to take in the flashy size of it. There were so many different edible things everywhere she looked.

... Noodles... Invira didn't eat those much, but she loved soups. She looked around for a big bone with marrow in it. There are so many things... she got a little dizzy with how much variety was in the foodstuffs before her, but she managed to find a bone for her broth, and some herbs that she recognised.

It took her awhile to figure out how to turn on the stove, as she preferred to use a live fire at home. As the broth was cooking, she realised that she had forgotten to pick noodles, and, eyes-wide, frantically rushed back over to the dizzying choice tables.

When everything was in the pot, she allowed herself some time to enjoy the smell of her dish. After a bit of stirring, she poured the soup noodles into a bowl and waited excitedly for judgment.

Before waiting for long, Invira spotted the chocolate stand. A bead of sweat beaded on her forehead. Wait for judgment...? Get chocolate...? Chocolate won. She skittered over to the stand with short yet swift steps, holding on to the tops of her socks.

She nodded shyly at the troll standing at the booth and quickly put one in her mouth.

Within seconds, her eyes started to water. And milliseconds after that, she realised she couldn't sniff tears back into her eyes like she could with snot. The edges of her mouth twitched as she tried to be polite. Sometimes she liked something a bit spicy to counteract the snow near her home, but today, she liked not having a hole in her stomach better.

Sabotage! You have only a tiny bunsem burner to use as your sole heat source during this whole challenge. Hope you didn't have a lot to cook... (+0)
Cutthroat! You and your competitors dumped all your sabotages onto one troll, effectively ruining any chance they had to cook a proper meal. (+3)
Tasty! The judge eats your entire dish, and begs Cerise to get the recipe from you. Well, can't beat that, can you? (+5)

        Score: 8

Bunsen Burner didn't sound so bad until it had to be put into practice. An entire soup dish? Cooked on one of these things? Impossible. Or so he thought. Again he managed to get a troll kicked off which, to be honest, Mahmud felt a little bad about. But this was how the game was played, and he was playing at a real big disadvantage.

Not to mention the disadvantage of not knowing what the hell Ramen was. Like he saw these blocks of it the few times he went to the grocery store with Ommy before, but no idea what was inside those packages. In fact, a few trolls snickered and laughed when he grabbed those packages (and a bunch of bugs) and threw them in a pot.

Joke was on them though, apparently the judge had a thing for instant ramen. When asked the secret ingredient, he said the true answer: "Bugs".

This time. This time was going to be the one where he'd eat the chocolate without worry. They ALL couldn't be spicy, could they?

Turns out they were. This one may have even been worse than yesterday! Mahmud's eyes watered, and he immediately dashed to go and swish that sting out of his mouth.

Acceptance... You seem to take well to this sabotage, and in fact, it only seems to make you stronger? (+3)
Yikes! The judge makes a face while eating. Did... did you forget to season it? (+0)

Ramen? He ate that all the time. Oh, wait cooking it? People...did that? Uhhhh. Well, this was gonna be a bit of a pickle.

Hm. Pickles.

He grabbed some junk and would give it a shot, anyway. As he did, he found that he had a shitty little flame to work with. Whatever. He'd work it out.

Turned out he didn't really need much more than that anyway. He dumped in some beef broth, pickles, mushrooms, the noodles. It went to a simmer, and Guo was pleased with himself. He figured he wasn't supposed to burn it, so poured it out soon after. Upon presentation, though. He got a comment. Bland. s**t, there were usually flavor packets.

That's what they were for?!

Tsarzi Ameroc

Tsarzi approached the booth again, eyeing the vendor with distaste. It may be her booth but she was still wrong. Tsarzi had seen "appetizers" on a menu before and they seemed pretty stupid. She retained that opinion still. Wast of time, waste of money-

The blueblood tossed the line of thought aside pretty quickly though, ready to cook to win. Except... she'd never had ramen. She had no idea how to make ramen. It sounded like putting noodles in stew, but that sounded terrible. Well, like the redblood said, it's her booth. Ia she wants to eat bad food by a handful of idiots and Tsarzi that don't know how to cook, then so be it. And if the redblood wanted meat stew with noodles in it, well, it wasn't Tsarzi that had to eat it.

The only change to her stony expression was to blink at the wriggler's set that was shoved in her hands. Well, it's not her first time in a kitchen, but she isn't exactly masterful of it yet, so Tsarzi guessed this was fine. At least continued safety negligence meant the small set reached oventop temperatures easy.

Tsarzi hadn't really know what she needed to make ramen either, in all honesty. She'd never used this vegetable stock stuff, and had just grabbed some kind of long noodle. She didn't not expect much from this dish, and when she was handed a Chittentown Reaper pepper, a loaf of white bread, and grub sauce, she didn't think anyone else did either. That notion rubbed her wrong, but realistically, this dish was going to be a nightmare.

So, by the end, it was more like spicy meat and noodle stew than ramen. She did serve it in a clean bowl with fire toasted white bread spread around the plate. She wasn't much for frivolous decoration, but apparently clean and simple was doing it for the lowblood judge whenever Tsarzi stepped up.

"It's my own interpretation of the concept," was the only explanation Tsarzi offered when asked about the fact that this is not ramen. At all. It's broth and noodles and meat, but it is not ramen.

Fellah had remembered Cerise's booth from last year. Or more accurately he remembered continually scorching his mouth on various hot chocolates every night in the hopes that he would finally get the sweet one. This sweep, however, looked much different. The redblood marveled at the massive booth construct. "Impressive," he mused under his breath, before quickly finding a cooking station.
The troll next to him had sneaked something into his batter, unfortunately for them it was the nutmeg rather than the Cayenne. "Hmm? Ah, thanks so much partner!" the farmtroll said cheerily, much to the chagrin of his competition.
Unfortunately Fellah forgot about the decorative toothpicks he had been using to test the consistency of the batter, starting a small oven fire. Whoops!
All in all the result were some amazing looking boisonberry scones. His career track may be switching to music, however he still had a knack for the kitchen.

Dairah Vacche - Cutthroat Kitchen

[Sabotage - 15 - Sabotage! Caima is set loose on you, and now you have to deal with the host's very hungry and very unruly lusus crawling between your legs and begging for scraps. You better make sure to feed her too! (+2)

Performance - 12 - Heckled! Cerise comes up while you're cooking and seems to think you're doing very poorly. She has a few... not-so-nice comments, and it ruins your self confidence. (+1)

Result - 3 - Plating! You really rushed your plating, so it doesn't look super great. (+2)

Total Score: 5]

Dairah was suuuuuper excited! Cooking was a vital skill for any troll that worked with food, even someone who just picked and sold it like she did. Unfortunately, when she saw what she was getting into, her heart sank. Ramen? While she did eat the instant stuff when she had a craving for something warm, she had never made the fancy stuff before. When she saw the redblood lady who was running the booth, however, she felt a vague pit-a-pat in her chest. She was so CUTE! Dairah began to entertain fantasies of being her buddy in puffy dresses. Gog she wanted a dress like that. So, even if the odds were against her, she HAD to impress the pretty lady!

Sucking in a breath, Dairah went to collect ingredients that she thought made sense; Moomoo's guidance came into play a few times as the bovine lusus nudged things towards her. When she came back to her station, she was surprised to find the pretty lady's lusus scuttling around. Initially, she thought she could just ignore the toothy little thing, but then the lusus began to knock over her bowls and steal scraps of her meat. Dairah could feel frustration building up within her, but she kept telling herself, stay calm, if you work in a restaurant, you can't let customers see you panic. Also, showing the lady you can handle her lusus has to be a plus. She ended up making a sort of arrangement where Moomoo would entertain Caima for a bit, and then Dairah would pitch a small scrap to the other lusus to keep her distracted.

Eventually, the pretty redblood came to collect her lusus. Dairah flashed her best charming grin and pushed her current product forward to show off, hoping that Cerise would offer some encouragement, or at least some advice.

What came out of her crush's mouth made her blood go cold.

After the piercing insult, Dairah stared at her ramen and sniffed, trying not to cry in front of everyone. She had to keep her cool, even if her heart had been utterly shattered. Maybe some higher-bloods considered crying on the job a cull-worthy offense? Still, she had a feeling that a few of her tears contributed some salt to the broth. She spent so long trying to hold back her feelings that she nearly ran out of time to plate. The result was a bit ramshackle, but she almost didn't care how it looked. The pretty lady had dismissed it before it was even done. It stood no chance of winning.

Troll crushes were a difficult thing.

Dairah Vacche - Hot Chocos

Somewhere, Dairah had heard that chocolate was a cure for a broken heart and the ultimate break-up food. Well, nothing had really broken up, but the idea of something sweet seemed comforting. The warning that the chocolates "may be" hot confused her; they didn't seem to be heated at all, so what was that about? She plucked a chocolate with orange icing just like her color and popped it into her mouth.

And then it was like someone set off a bomb in her mouth. This chocolate was SPICY! What was even in this? If Cerise would even give her the time of day, Dairah wanted to ask what was so mouth-bustingly spicy. But the first priority was dousing the sick fires going on in her mouth. She scuttled away from the booth, Moomoo following quietly behind.

ZEYLLA CRYPSI
Sabotage! Someone bans you from having free use of your hands, and now you have to try and cook with your hands tied together. (+1)
Acceptance... You have made your peace with your sabotages and learn to roll with the punches. (+3)
Plating! Despite sub-par food, you made such a pretty plate that the judge managed to let your dish slide. (+3)

After her failed attempt at Akkira's booth, Zeylla was feeling both frustrated about losing and determined to so better at the next booth. No way was she having a repeat of the other night. So as the booth came into view, Zeylla made the quick decision to take on the offered cooking challenge. While she was still learning to bake, she was much more confident in her cooking skills, having cooked her own food(after trapping and cleaning it as well) for the majority her life. She was certain she could do this.

Of course, as the competition started, Zeylla realized this might be a little more than she expected. Really, how was she expected to work with her hands tied together?! Her knife work was definitely hurting from the awkward angle, and the meat she had chosen was still spotted with tough fat that she couldn't shave off without taking too much time. Zeylla frowned as she stared at her ingredients, but after a moment of wondering if this might become another failure, she realized she couldn't give up.

She could do this.

With new determination in her eyes, she went to work, trimming her meat again until it was perfect, and in less time than she had thought it would take with her hands as they were, and then began to cook. Honestly handling cooking meat and boiling ramen was far easier than cutting up the veggies. The chili pepper and spice reduction she had made was a little more difficult, and came out heavier than she planned but Zeylla was feeling good about herself as everything seemed to fall(mostly) into its place, not that her stone face gave away any of her satisfaction.

She realized she had a good bit of time for plating as well, and with pride swelled in Zeylla's chest, she plated her food carefully and with as much care as she could, noting as she cut her meat and laid it carefully atop the spiced broth and noodles that it was a little drier then she would like, and her chili pepper reduction was a little too thick, but the veggies were bright against the gold-red broth, charred perfectly before being set in the soup. The way she laid it out, she just knew it was going to be worth at least something.
