Kinak shivered. He swallowed the last of the berries and moved cautiously to Nash's side. His ears were forward, alert as he scanned the area for the stranger the brought such nervousness to the others.
"Nishka," he rumbled, "I will protect you. If things go bad stay behind me." He knew he could take any damage dished out to him easily. He snorted, steeling himself against the anxiety. Gently, he led Nash back further into shadows with his muzzle. Tucking his legs under him, the giant grounded himself and motioned for Nash to lay beside him. "I will go with you, Char," Tove muttered casting her eyes down at her hooves. She felt really bad about the whole situation. Her wings twitched and fluttered and she went to Char's side ready to follow the mare in meeting up with Veslo.

I deeply and humbly apologize for the wait! thank you both for being patient with me.Charnette nodded at him. That seemed fair, and that was the best they could hope for right now. Now if only Veslo saw it that way. She was surprised when the dainty deer volunteered to accompany her. Well that was good. She trotted out of their protective trees, head up and eyes looking for her blood paint mate. Char swished her tail as she saw him and broke into a trot to meet him as far away from the trees where the other two still hid.
"Veslo! Look who I ran into! She's got some wonderful new!" And a basket of headaches for me, she thought to herself. No matter. They'd work through this. "Tove has found her brother, and erm a surprise of sorts." Did she just jump in with both four feet? Well why not. Get the worst over with hey? "Actually you won't like this surprise, but try to keep an open mind. Tove and her brother have a skinwalker with them." The mare positioned herself between her mate and the trees. She hoped he wouldn't try to run her over. Veslorurn picked up his pace as the scents got stronger. Finally he saw his blue hued mate emerge from a stand of trees with the deer mare right beside her. "Tove! I'm so glad you came back for another visit!" He was genuinely happy to see her. Their first visit had been far too brief and short. The stallion hoped she be able to stay for longer this time. He flicked his ears forward to hear this wonderful news. "You did?!" He exclaimed happily as Char broke the news to him. Veslo did find it odd that Char was the one talking. Tove looked nervous.
He came to a stop as Char broke the rest of the news. A skinwalker? Here? Emotions sped across his face. Fear. Dread. Disbelieve. How could Tove have brought such a creature here?! He'd warned her! He looked at Tove for an explanation.

Tove almost choked. He looked so...angry with her. Her knees shook and her tail pressed itself to her flank. The bells on her dreamcatcher tinkled in fear. She glanced back towards the shadow of her brother, who as he had shown was the norm, was not paying any attention to the tension in the graveyard. He was looking upwards at a bird or something, his mouth moving as if he were talking to Nash. Relaxed as he could be. Unlike Tove herself.
"I'm sorry," she muttered in the smallest of voices, "Veslo I am sorry. Nash is different though! He didn't harm me or my lovemate when they met. And my brother has been with him since he was a foal...kitten...what do I even call him? Anyways I have been with them for a season now and nothing has happened that was bad. And he doesn't seem to be toying with me or my brother. I don't even know how to describe him...Savannah and I had to tell him what a skinwalker was! Please....don't be angry..." She bowed, her front legs buckling so her antlers touched the ground. She was doing her best to avoid a fight. magnadearel tis fine hun. Gunna just reply with Tove right now because it seems more centered on her than her brother

Despite any brave fronts he might have been thinking of putting up, Nash was quick to join his mate on the ground. There had been enough times of him being attacked on sight, thank you very much. Though at the same time, he didn't want his mate hurt... with a small sigh, the cat shifted to lean against the other.
"Let's just hope things don't go badly. I ... understand a bit more why skinwalkers are hated now, but I don't like being attacked. And I don't like you being attacked while protecting me." With a nervous sort of hiss, he shifted his wings, tail tip twitching as they waited.

No explanation was forthcoming immediately from Tove. And that almost made him madder. Hadn't she listened to a word he'd said?! Veslorurn noted with one tiny part of his mind how frightened she'd become, while the rest dealt with his greatest fear that a skinwalker had found them. It was time for action! He only hoped he'd survive this. "Then you're as foolish as any other mare duped by them!" He snarled at her weak excuse.
"I call them skinwalkers. Killers! I told you Tove they are intelligent, crafty, and lairs! They can pretend to be nice when they want to to get you to do what they want." He was positive the skinwalker was at fault. And his mate! He spared a glance toward her. She'd obviously been fooled by the beast as well, for she sounded like she was defending them. Charnette realized it'd take awhile to bring her mate around. Time they didn't have. This was going to have to be done the hard way. She tried to position herself between the red stallion and the tree grove. "I know what you're thinking Veslo, and normally I'd say your right. But I don't think so with Nash. I'm not quite sure why, but I really believe he doesn't mean us any harm." The mare groped for words to make her mate understand. It really wasn't easy. Velso didn't want to understand.
"I was suspicious at first too. I remembered what you've said. He doesn't act cunning, and yes I know he could just be playing along. If that's so we keep our guard up until he shows his true colors." Her mate was right of course. They had nothing to go on except the evidence. What was one skinwalker against all skinwalkers, and the evilness they showed everyday? She felt Nash was different, but couldn't place her hoof on why. Which wouldn't be enough for Veslo. So maybe logic would win. It was the best she could offer. Char cast a glance toward Tove. It was a mistake. Veslo saw his chance and took it. If they were all spellbound, it was up to him to drive the demon in their midst away. He had noted how his mate had been trying to keep between him and one particular stand of trees. His guess was that's where they were. He rudely shoved past her and Tove and charged the trees. The stallion wasn't really thinking, or planning. If he had, he might have realized how truly defenseless against a skinwalker he was. Instead he was thinking he needed to protect Char and Tove, from the skinwalker if not themselves.
He'd also forgotten that Tove had found her brother. Veslo charged into the grove expecting some sort of horribly beast, instead finding himself up against a larger stallion covered in trees. That large stallion made him pause for a moment. Until his golden eyes lighted on the feline creature leaning against him. "Die!" Of all the heroic sayings he could have come up with at this moment, and that was the best he got? Velso charged the winged cat. Unfortunately his momentum had mostly been lost when he'd encountered the other stallion.

"Nishka...we are always moving. It would be nice to stay still for a moment. I am tired...very tired," Kinak muttered nosing his mate, "But by the looks of it, my sister is not doing well. Stay strong." His blue eyes fixed themselves on Tove's glittering wings. His sister was so pure, so innocent and delicate...while he was darker than she ever would be. The red stallion shoved her and Kinak's heart sank. The look of fear in his sister's face was enough to make him falter...but only for a moment.
Kinak surged to his feet with a loud bellowing roar as Veslo drew close. He met the red stallion with the bulk of his form, shoulders crashing into the other. Digging his ghostly feet into the earth, he attempted to drive the attacker back down the hill.
"Nishka tree yourself NOW!" Kinak shouted through gritted teeth. He was careful not to use his antlers against his sister's dear friend. Bruising was unavoidable, but bloodshed on his part was.
"You will not hurt my mate," Kinak growled at the stranger, "I will keep you from him." Tove stumbled as Veslo pushed past her. She whipped around to warn Kinak, but her brother was already at his feet to meet Veslo's charge. The males slammed together, Tove crying out in fear. She turned to Char.
"I'm sorry!" she sniffled, "I was wrong. But I have to try." Using her wings to help her up the hill faster than just her hooves, she reached the males.
As Kinak backed up with a warning rear, she placed herself firmly between them. She faced Veslo with a pleading gaze.
"I am no fool!" she stamped a hoof, "You are my friend and I would never dream of hurting you or Char! I wanted you to meet my brother and his mate. My family Veslo! This is my family! Like you have Char. Like I would like to still have both of you!" She tossed her antlers as she shook any doubt from her mind. Kinak, breathing heavily, moved to Tove's side just a step behind her. He bumped her lovingly with the horn that hung on his side. He stared at Veslo, blue eyes deep and pleading with him as well.
"I am tired and we need rest. All Nishka and I do is travel so nobody gets killed. Sister said this might be a safe place. Please do not prove her wrong. Neither of us wishes a fight," the giant rumbled, "But if you need to fight, then please...take as many hits to me as you will. But we did not harm your mate even though there was much chance. And no harm as come to my sister or her mate. If you allow, no harm will come at all. We are just...tired."

With a startled hiss at the suddenly charging stalling, Nash was already on his feet and halfway to a convenient tree before Kinak even said anything. He swarmed up to a low branch and clung there, ears back against his head. This was ... just the same as everywhere else. Dammitall. Seemed like trying to convince Char's mate wasn't going to be easy. It might not even work. And hey, look, it was his fault again. Just for being what he was... a thing he couldn't change. Hearing the exhaustion in Kinak's voice when he spoke lately didn't help matters.
"If ... I'm that much of a problem being here, I can go somewhere else... and you can rest here, Kinak," he offered hesitantly to the ones on the ground, staring down at the new stallion. "And before you even start to say it, no I'm not planning on coming back and attacking anyone once you go to sleep here or whatever. Stay up all night and guard them if you want."
With another annoyed and frustrated hiss, he climbed up higher and then leapt off to the next tree, spreading his wings to glide a bit and then continuing onward, to somewhere out of sight. His mate, at least, should be able to rest with them, if he wasn't around.

Veslorurn had never before felt he was small. Until now that was. He got the distinct impression that he was.... short. Compared to this other. Nor did he have the bulk. It had never bothered him before, but now it was proving to be problematic. Not to mention the odd trees upon his back. His momentum already gone, the words from this strange stallion baffled him! Mate? Skinwalkers didn't take mates. They took playthings and prey. He said as much to the one blocking him. "Skinwalkers don't do such things. If it's said so, it's only using you for it's own evil purpose!"
Despite his efforts, Veslo found himself pushed back through the snow. He caught sight of a slim cat-like shape slipping into the trees. The beast made a pretty speech and appeared to flee. He didn't fall for it one bit! Then the rearing male forced him back a few more steps. He could read threat when he had to. Odd how it hadn't come from where he expected. Veslo wondered if the stallion was be-spelled somehow.
The part that surprised him most was Tove coming to stand between them. Meek, sweet Tove had suddenly turned into a tiger before his eyes. A mare he'd thought that needed protection was suddenly showing her claws. Again that thing about a mate. But everything he knew was exactly opposite of what they were saying. Another blue shape came to join, not him, but the siblings. Veslo turned his eyes on his own mate. Charnette knew how difficult this was for him. But he needed to open his mind. She was sad that it had to be done like this. The mare walked over to join the siblings in the stand off. Clearly putting her support behind them. "I believe they are right Veslo. We can still be cautious and give them a chance." By them she really meant the skinwalker, Nash. "With the four of us, if he does turn he will be no match." She tried to cushion it for him as much as possible.
The tension in the air was palpable. She watched the emotion flit across her mate's face. The skinwalker was completely out of sight now. What would he do? It broke her heart to see them all at odds with each other. In the end she hoped this might bring some peace to her mate. The journey to get there though was going to be long and difficult, she feared. So many emotions swirled about within him. Fear, anger, and betrayal being the top three. Why did no one believe him when he had first hoof account to back him? Was this skinwalker such a smooth talker to pull the blinders over all three? Anger finally won. "Fine! You want to play with your lives. On your heads be it! Mark my words though, when that thing shows it's true colors and your laying there under it's paws and bleeding, don't come crying to me! For I will say I told you so."
With those harsh words, he whirled and turned on his hind hooves. The stallion stalked away quickly, stiff jerky steps betraying his anger as he quickly left those behind.Char watched her mate sulk away. She sighed and hung her head for a moment. A very very difficult path. "I'm..... sorry." She looked at the siblings beside her. If one tried to follow she shook her head to discourage them. "Leave him be. He needs time to sort his thoughts and feelings out. I think he only acts this way because he is afraid for us." The mare glanced at the sky and debated a moment.
"Come, you are tired. You can rest in our home while I figure how to get shelter set up for you. I'm afraid our home won't fit all five of us." The mare led the way back toward the graveyard.

"Nishka NO," Kiank bellowed as Nash made a hasty escape. He made as if he was going to chase after him, but stopped himself. His sister or his mate? They both needed him. The giant hung his head wearily. He was tired of all this. Of looking after a cat with the sense of a teenager still. Of his own limitations. Of the hate.
"If you do not mind...I will wait for Nishka outside. I do not do well in houses and rooms," Kinak sighed. He looked tired. The trees even seemed to wilt a tiny bit with his own emotions. He plodded past the females and down back to the gravestones. Tucking his legs under him, he leaned against one of the more sturdy looking stones. Pushing his horn to his lips, he sounded a lonely call. A summon in hopes Nash would come back as he always had to that trumpeting noise. Tove wanted to go after Veslo but was stopped by the look Char gave her. She wanted to go after Nash but was stopped by her brother's weary energy. She didn't know where she was needed or what she could do about anything. And if anyone knew this forest, it would be Veslo and Char more than herself. She didn't want to get lost. Her head hung much like her brother's. [

Nash stopped not too far away, just ... out of sight, really. He sighed softly, draping himself over a tree branch. This was one advantage of being able to change forms. He could sleep pretty much anywhere. Right now, though, the problem wasn't comfort. He was tired, but more ... emotionally than physically. He was starting to wonder if there was anyone out there besides Kinak (and pretty much Tove) that would take him at his word that he wasn't planning to kill them in their sleep or something. On the other paw, he could see where they were coming from with the assumptions, especially as some of them had had previous bad encounters with skinwalkers. Seemed he just couldn't win. Hmph.
His thoughts were interrupted by the familiar sound of Kinak's hunting horn and Nash winced slightly, knowing that the other was calling to him. With a small shake of his head, he clung tighter to the branch with his claws. Not yet... the whole point of this was so Kinak could rest without him causing trouble.

Whoan Thank you both for being patient with my slow replies! Charnette hoped the two males wouldn't go too far or run into each other out there. There was something odd in the way the skinwalker backed down and fled instead of fought. Something tickled the back of her mind. A bit of information she'd heard some time back and hadn't really thought much of. She hoped it'd surface sometime soon.
For now she had another problem. Where to house everyone? She paused as Kinak settled himself beside a gravestone, and smiled lightly. The blue mare nodded with understanding as he said he didn't well inside enclosures. "I think I understand, but you don't want to be in the elements all the time do you? We can rig a simple roof or a roof plus one side. Just something to keep the worst of the weather off of you. You don't want your mate to be uncomfortable do you?"
She was curious as he blew his horn, but said nothing. Instead she noted Tove's dejection. Char went over to the snow hind and rubbed her neck affectionately with her muzzle. "I'm actually grateful you brought your brother and his mate to us. It might give us a chance to prove to Veslo that not all skinwalkers are bad. True it will be an uphill battle all the way. Can you march on despite knowing that?" Maybe alone she couldn't convince her mate, but all three, no four of them working together should.

Kinak huffed letting the horn fall. If Nash was going to act like a toddler so be it. When he regained his strength, he would drag the cat out of the trees by his tail.
"Sometimes I don't know what my mate wants...he is being stupid," the giant grunted laying his head against the rough gravestone. He was in full pout, ears flat and eyes half lidded with his lips pushed out a bit. He looked at Char, then to Tove, and back to Char slowly in turn. Tove was staring back at him, her expression easy to read as it always was. Char's facial markings made it a little more difficult but the energy coming off her was warm.
"When red male stops acting tough I will accept more permanent covering like roof," Kinak stated his expression unchanging from his colt-like pouting. Tove found herself laughing at her ridiculous brother. She leaned into Char's friendly show of affection gratefully. Careful to keep track of where her antlers were, she returned the gesture.
"I don't doubt some walkers are evil...maybe even most since even my mate was shocked at Nash's behavior. I would...just like him to change his mind about this walker. Nash has been nothing but considerate. He even hasn't gone for Volney, my bird friend, despite him hunting mostly birds, fish, and other wild animals," Tove replied, "Will Nash...come back on his own? Veslo was scary." Kinak made a rude noise earning him a glare from his sister. He was seriously acting childish.
"Kinak if you don't have something nice to say..." magnadearel No worries dear. I aint fast either.

Charnette tilted her head at him. "How much do you know about him? Like his background? Have you asked what he wants?" She eyed the stallion sternly. "Or did you just up and drag him off?" She was more than tempted to smack them both with the end of her tail, both or all three. The mare glanced at Tove and rolled her eyes. "Stallions!" She grinned to show the joke.
"Veslo has his own problems. Just like your mate, so don't go judging before you know him. Perhaps you should spend some time talking with each other." Her mate was her mate, and she didn't like hearing him dissed or brushed aside so casually.
"Come Tove. Let's retire to our warm home and let the boys pout outside in the cold. I want to hear the story of how you found this unlikely duo." She grinned eagerly for a good tale. That and some quality girl time maybe. Tove was like her only mare friend. It would be so good to spend time with her. If only the situation wasn't as tense as it was, it couldn't have been more perfect. She hoped all the boys would eventually come around to their way of thinking.
