Prompt: Help stop the spread of germs! What do you do when you have a cough
Response: Please write a short IC post about what they're writing about/thinking.

Tarot shrugged a little at the lesson of the day. Her immune system seemed to be quite strong, since she'd never yet been sick, even with the littlest of things. Perhaps it had something to do with her habit of sticking mostly to herself. Whatever the case, she still knew all the quirks and rituals people went through when they were sick to keep their germs from spreading. Not that all of them did that...

When you cough you should do it in either your shoulder or the crook of your elbow. It helps contain some of the germs. Coughing in your hand is almost as bad as not covering your mouth, cause you touch a lot of things with your hands so you'd be spreading germs around just as much.

Student name: Artemus
Prompt: Help stop the spread of germs! What do you do when you have a cough
Response: Please write a short IC post about what they're writing about/thinking.

Artemus took the lesson seriously enough. They'd been woken here in Below, but they still were more likely to get sick with certain things that were common around here that weren't in Above. Arabelle, being from Above herself, had told them about it, and made sure to hammer home a couple different ways to help prevent the spreading of germs to keep themself healthy.

You can cough into your sleeve or into your shirt. If the cough is really bad but not enough to keep you home you can wear a mask, or take medicine with you to help ease the coughing. It also helps to wash your hands and body often to kill off any germs that have been collecting on you.

Student name: Laurel
Prompt: Today we're doing sit-ups! Roll a D100 to see how many you do.
Number rolled:
1-10: Oh come on, you can't call it quit now! Keep going! (Fail, you must roll again)
11-49: Not too shabby! You're doing great! (Pass!)
50: You're trying so hard but suddenly... BLEH! You just threw up! Maybe don't work out right after lunch. Go to the nurse and rest a little. (Fail, you must roll again)
51-90: Excellent! You're like some kind of machine! You're in great shape!
91-100: You're going strong, you see the light at the end of the tunnel... But then you fainted! Maybe you pushed yourself too hard. (Fail, you must roll again.)

Laurel always loved gym, especially when they got to do physical work. She did a bit of stretching first, not too much but enough to get all the creaks and pops out of her joints, then got down on the floor and began working on some crunches. The first ones were always the easiest, though the burn slowly began to build up. Laurel rather enjoyed it, enjoyed pushing against the boundaries and getting the most out of her body. Eventually her muscles were just too tired though and she had to stop. Probably not the best in the class, but she felt like she'd done a good job!

Vincent laid down and started trying to do a few sit ups. They didn't get very far before they realized the position they were in was horribly uncomfortable for their tail. Darn thing had really fluffed up since his freshling days. He would have to try to readjust before he took this assignment on.

Finally Vincent got his tail in a more comfortable position, though it had taken a lot of wiggling around and experimenting. He started over, not counting the first few sit ups he'd done before he'd had to move. He hadn't done very many anyway. He was able to breeze through the first half of the sit ups, made it almost to the 40s before the burn became real. It was more of a struggle, and he pushed himself to keep doing one more, just one more. Finally he had to tap out somewhere around the 60s. He fell back to the mat, breathing hard and muscles complaining, but feeling oddly accomplished.

Florence got down on the floor and tried a couple sit ups, but...his wings were very much in the way. Uncomfortably, even painfully so. Fey wings could be quite fragile, unfortunately. He was going to have to think about how to do this...

Florence tried a couple different positions with his wings. He thought he had one that was comfortable, but just a few sit ups later he realized he was wrong. The position was pulling on particular muscles that just wasn't comfortable. He sat up and tried to readjust again.

Finally Florence found a position that was comfortable. He had to move a bit slower with his sit ups than some of the other students, but at least he wasn't pulling any muscles or crushing his wings to do so. He actually managed quite a few sit ups, which surprised him. It must have been from all the tree climbing he did as a kid, and even now. It looked pretty easy, but it took a certain amount of muscle to move and balance in a tree without hurting the tree or falling out! Finally he got tired, but there was a feeling of pride with it as well for doing a lot better than he thought he would.

Student name: Amber
Prompt: Name one of the food groups on a food pyramid, other than sweets, and one item from that group.
Response: Please write a short IC post about how they feel about the food group they call out

User Image
Amber thought for a moment about some of her favorite foods. She did rather enjoy sweet things, which the teacher had said was off limits, but she was also really fond of berries and fruit. They also tended to be sweet, with the occasional bit of tart thrown in here and there.

"Fruits are one of my favorite food groups," she piped in her high, sweet voice. "I especially love strawberries, but cherries are super good as well. Lemons can be good too, but they're better combined with other stuff cause they're too sour to eat on their own!" She'd gotten a bit carried away and gave more than one example. Hopefully that was okay. She smiled brightly at the teacher and then resumed her seat.

Acacia made a little face as she stood up, partially in protest and partially in through. "Bread and stuff is a food group," she said, face still crinkled as she tried to remember some of the specifics. "Um, I guess it's called grains or something like that."

She traded around a few examples in her mind. Cake and baked goods seemed like they should count, since they had flour and stuff in them, but the teacher would probably call those sugars and sweets. Baked goods had lots of dairy and stuff in them too, so they probably didn't count exclusively as a grain. "Rice is a grain. I think corn is supposed to be a grain too, but it seems kinda like a vegetable to me. You can make tortillas and bread out of it though.." Acacia shrugged, then resumed her seat.

Student name: Quartz
Prompt: Find me a recipe for something healthy!
Response: Please write a short IC post about why they like the recipe

User Image
Quartz didn't cook a whole lot, but she still knew her way around the kitchen to do a couple basic things. Snacks were her specialty, especially since Amber'd been born. One of their favorites was quite simple, had several variations, and was pretty healthy. Quartz worried it might be considered too simple, but hopefully the many variations proved she wasn't being lazy with the assignment. She stood up when it was her turn.

"My favorite recipe is a snack that I call "ants on a log". I make it all the time, usually after school for something to keep me from getting too hungry before dinner. I have a little sister and she loves them as well. "Ants on a log" is usually a piece of celery with peanut butter on it and raisins on the peanut butter," she explained, feeling a little blush at the simplicity she described, but resolutely continued. "That's the more traditional way, which is pretty tasty, but my favorite thing is that celery is pretty versatile and I can make the snack a lot of different ways."

Quartz began listing off the various combinations she'd used in the past. "I've mixed a bit of cream cheese and ranch to put on the celery, then put some peas on that. Or I beat strawberries into cream cheese and topped it with dried cranberries. Guacamole and black beans is good when I want it a bit more savory, or hummus and pretzel bits, but my little sister prefers sweet to savory. If we have bacon left over from breakfast I'll crumble some and spread soft cheese in the celery, then top it with the bacon. Sometimes I use cookie butter instead of peanut butter, but that's more of a special treat cause it's got a lot more sugar in it. I also sometimes use berries instead of raisins."

She was still blushing as she finished talking, hoping she hadn't rambled on too long, but added, "It's my favorite thing to make cause it's pretty easy, usually quick to make, and celery is kind of sweet for a vegetable so it works well with lots of flavors. You can be as creative as you like with it." Finished, she plopped down in her seat, hiding her face behind a screen of hair and hoping nobody thought her recipe was silly or something.

Prompt: Name one of the food groups on a food pyramid, other than sweets, and one item from that group.
Response: Please write a short IC post about how they feel about the food group they call out

Zoe raised her hand and politely waited for the others who had raised theirs first to answer. She nodded at the ones listed already; fruit was always nice, and grains were okay. The mention of tortillas from the last student suddenly reminded her of what she had enjoyed so much during last Taco Tuesday. "Meat is a group; like red meat, that you make tacos with. Though you can make fish tacos too, which is also a meat."

She tilted her head to one side for a second before widening her eyes in realization. "Oh! I think nuts are a meat too, sorta; I've heard people call the edible parts 'flesh', though I don't know if that has anything to do with it being in the same group as meat."

For once, Cider felt quite comfortable in her classroom…the topic was about food though, and perhaps that was the issue. When they were told to talk about a level on the food pyramid, her hand shot up, much to her own surprise. When it was her turn to answer, though her ears folded low, she managed to get her entire point across without any stuttering or messing up what so ever.

“Fruits and vegetables are on the pyramid…that’s what you can eat the most of, like apples. I love apples, that’s my favorite food, apples are…and since you can eat the most of them, it means apples are good for you so…”

She drew in a breath, hoping that was enough information. “Fruits are the best part of the food pyramid, I think…”

Student name: Lilo
Prompt: Strawberries!
Response:
User Image
Oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh no! As Lilo was hurrying through the halls to make it to their class on time they remembered one small problem...they didn't have a healthy snack to bring to class. Of all the things that could go wrong...of course Lilo would flunk the easiest assignment in the world. Instantaneously an ingenious plan came to the Baphomet, Lilo veered off course slightly opting to go through the cafeteria. Surely someone in there would have some sort of healthy snack that Lilo could...borrow.

There! Sitting towards the end of one of the tables was a small plate of fruit, they mulled it over for a second and decided it would probably be easier to grab a piece instead of the whole plate. As sneakily as someone who was running through the cafeteria could, Lilo snatched a strawberry off the plate and continued to class. Very pleased with how that all worked out, Lilo walked into class with their head held high and proudly displayed the one strawberry they brought.

Not really one for mingling with others, Lilo sat down at their desk and popped the fruit into their mouth, smiling the whole time.

Student name: Skylar
Prompt: Post a picture of a healthy snack that your student brought to share
User Image
Response:

Sharing food seemed illogical to the young hybrid, that was food that either his parents made or they paid for...so why should he have to share with the other students? Perhaps the others weren't as fortunate? Or it could just be a way to get the students to interact with each other. He clung to the pack of string cheese as he entered the room and methodically wove between students to set his food with the others.

Without really reading the atmosphere Skye turned to face his classmates,
"I have brought in a bag of string cheese." That seemed like a good enough explanation as any. String...cheese...it was such an odd concept to him. Cheese wasn't supposed to be stringy...he pulled out his notebook and scribbled some notes about how string cheese was an abomination and then used the rest of the class to observe the others.
