Most of what Zhen said rolled around his mind like waves on a shore. He understood where the prentice was coming from, but knew most of his generation and older were a loss to his cause. It was obvious the next generation was going to bring about change and who was he to corrupt their minds? And then it happened... Like a clap of thunder on the open sea, "You've gotta be ******** kidding me..." He half growled while turning to the prentice and clapping a hand to each side of his shoulders.

Dropping his pompous etiquette, Mash'al craned his neck to meet the teen at eye level and took a moment to elaborate, "Your damn insane if you think I'm okay with that; preach peace all you like, but if someone attacks you-you will do something about it." He took a moment to let that sink in, then continued, "You don't have to attack if you don't want to, but you have to know how to defend yourself, or at least get a familiar that will watch your back for you..." Mash'al released Zhen and shook his head while turning from the prentice. He's fathering the child now?! What in Nerad's name has gotten into him?

"I know how to dodge and run," Zhen said confidently, staring right at the other with slightly harder eyes. "I'm quick footed and look at me. I'm dark enough I can very easily blend in with only a few minor adjustments. It has worked for me so far." He held up his hands a little and hummed.

"Though your idea of a familiar might..." Might be worth looking into. Honestly he didn't want to have to defend himself more than running and dodging a few punches, but if it came down to it... He might preach big words, but Zhen was afraid of death and pain. He kind of shrank back from his previous puffed up state and rubbed his neck again, a nervous habit he picked up since his hair was often tickling him. Without much else, he took down his hair and shook it out, the long black strands blowing in the breeze as he pulled it over one shoulder to just stay like that. "I'll look into getting something to help me protect myself if I need it.."

With his hair down, his face softened further, round cheeks seemed rounder, he seemed younger in general some how. "You are odd, Mash'al, but it's not... in a negative way. We don't see eye to eye on things, but your point of view is very defined. You know who you are and how you do things, and how things work for you. I can only hope I can take some of that into myself as I grow.." Who knows, maybe he'd end up seeing peace wasn't attainable right now. Maybe something horrific would change his world views and he'd be like Mash'al.

The world was a funny place when it was seeing what you were made of. He had a feeling Mash'al's life was overly complicated just from the hints he dropped. He'd lived a much harder life than Zhen had so far.

"Thank you for talking with me."

Mash'al smiled and ran his fingers through his hair, "You are an interesting young man Zhen... It has been a pleasure exploring your unique opinion on the world." Such strange emotions this prentice has elicited in him. A fraction of himself wanted to see the world through Zhen's eyes, free of hate and prejudices... only a small part, though. He had accomplished much in his time and holding to his beliefs has had a great deal to do with that. Mash'al was a difficult man, like his father before him, but he was fair, brutally honest, and true to his word.

Offering his hand he added, "Should you find yourself a familiar one day, bring it by. I'll ensure it gets proper training. And if ever you find yourself fleeing a hoard of stubborn Loyalists like me; head my way... I'll give them something to spit at." his eyes held a glint of anticipation at the thought of the challenge. "Until that day comes, Take care of yourself, Zhen."

When Mash'al offered his hand, Zhen took it easily. He squeezed and gave a surprisingly firm handshake. He knew how to do that much, at least. No limp wristed handshake. His dad had saw to that.

Give them something to spit at? Zhen laughed, a bubbly sound from his chest and just nodded. "I'll do that. It'll be.. interesting to say the least. Hopefully we'll both somehow find what we're looking for out of life. I wish you peace of mind and heart soon, Mash'al. Everyone deserves happiness."

Their meeting was coming to and end and Zhen can honestly say he learned a lot from him.

Before either could walk away though, Zhen came up with an idea. "We should have drinks soon. When I'm of age, of course, but.. In a year or two, meet back here and see where life has taken us. Sound like a deal?" He hoped they'd meet up again before them.

Mash'al turned his laughter to the sky, "Hell kid, you're essentially looking at my back yard~" Composing himself and forcing back a cocky grin he mustered the words, "I wouldn't miss it." Giving an assertive nod he departed the beach, back up the path they had initially traveled down and across the road to the gates of his estate. It was an interesting night to be sure, his afternoon tea has led to some interesting adventures in the past, but this was definitely one to record. Navigating his darkened home he stepped to his study and marked on his calendar; Two years from this date he would return to the beach and witness just what kind of a man Oba shapes Zhen into... Defeated or triumphant Mash'al knew it would be quite the spectacle.
