Sajah had been fine.
Granted, he hadn’t expected Leukos to appear (though he had considered it possible given their proximity in the same town). He hadn’t expected to be punched. He hadn’t expected Leukos to understand anything he attempted to communicate with Nyko. And he hadn’t known exactly where it would go from where it had started, but that hadn’t concerned him. He enjoyed a little anarchy.
When Nyko’s attitude faltered, however, and Sajah watched color drain from his face, it was as abruptly as that another matter entirely. Temper flared in him because how dare the man think he could frighten Nyko and simply carry on as though nothing had occurred. One hand came to rest instinctively—quite without him thinking anything about it—at Nyko’s back. He had been hurt severely recently, and Sajah’s touch was ginger but defensive just the same. He wouldn’t have been surprised if part of the loss of color weren’t due to a triggered reaction from the calamity.
Masters did get angry and physical, after all.
His eyes narrowed a half fraction though as Leukos seemed to take the subject change from resolving any of it to—fashion choices? Nyko would undoubtedly care significantly more about whether or not the color ‘suited’ him. It was all bright and varying degrees of obnoxious. Far be it from Sajah to be able to tell the subtler differences among them.

Nyko's fingers flitted up to the necklace around his neck, toying with a few of the jewels with the pads of his fingers. As much as he personally adored the piece, he wanted to rip it off in that instant and shove it so far down this man's throat that he choked on it. He would gladly give up such a lovely piece of jewelry for the satisfaction of-
"E-excuse me?" Still unnerved by the loud outburst from the merchant, Nyko wasn't prepared to be caught off guard, let alone to be called out for his gaudy taste in accessories. There was almost a mentally mad edge to his question, as if at any moment he might snap and do one of two things; either run or beat Leukos until one of them couldn't walk.
"....I'm going to kill him," he grumbled, just low enough for Sajah to hear. When he reached for the coin purse, digging out the funds required to pass to the merchant he kept murmuring, though they were less than friendly to young ears.
He didn't move away from Sajah's protective touch; rather, he seemed to lean back into it, pressing his scarred flesh against well worked fingers while he waited to see what would happen next. Nyko stepped far enough away from the vendor to put some distance to him - surely something a trained eye might have seen- but not enough to be publicly rude. At least, more so than he already had been.
"So what now? You aren't going to let us leave and you don't want to go anywhere with us; are we supposed to live in the market, then?"

As Nyko’s hand went for the purse at his hip instead of the clasp at his neck, Leukos’ shoulders twitched, his initial reaction being to lash out and smack the boy right across his face for even thinking of touching Leukos’ hard earned money, now in his possession, to buy some big gaudy jewelry. But that would be tacky and impulsive, probably just starting something up again with the butthurt little diva. Which would likely get them thrown out of the market for sure, maybe even banned from coming back.
But that wasn’t a risk he was willing to take. He still needed this space.
So he crossed his arms and pursed his lips, watching the money get passed off, his old coin purse getting that much lighter. It would just have to be a necessary loss. The tax for his mistakes.
“I don’t care what you do. You could plant your rears in the dirt at the side of the road where you two belong and take up root there; it makes no difference to me. Just give me back the money that you stole from me. And then we’ll part ways and forget this unsavory exchange ever even happened,” he said as he jutted his palm out expectantly, crimping his fingers to hurry along the transaction. [6/10]

Sajah’s gaze moved from Nyko, watching as he made his purchase, to Leukos when he retorted. Give me back the money… After a moment’s consideration, Sajah released a puff of an exhale and rocked back onto his heels, shrugging.
«We don’t have any coin of yours. Most of what I earned last night is safely among our things, this is just what the songbird has taken for treating himself before we begin our journey. I am afraid we have none to spare.» After a moment, he flashed his teeth. «But you are welcome to accompany us and give fashion advice if you think that the best use of your time.»
He didn’t figure Nyko would be fond of the idea, but neither did he think Leukos wanted anything to do with them but to get ‘his’ money back, and for the moment at least, a parting of ways was what he hoped for. His gaze made a quick trip back down Leukos’ ‘outfit’, though, and wiggled his toes in his boots. It wouldn’t perhaps be the worst thing to have later negotiations with him in a less wholly public setting, particularly now that they could have a conversation.
That was perhaps the single most exciting fact to him of the morning, and so long as neither Leukos nor Nyko beat the other bloody, he would consider it off to a continued good start.

Nyko had to cant his head to the side to see what Sajah's retort was, and he certainly wanted to see that. If this fluffed up drama queen thought he was going to get so much as a fart from them then he was sorely mistaken.
"He isn't wrong," After paying the man the coin purse Nyko had been toting around all day was delightfully empty. So much so that he was able to stretch the fabric between his fingers, giving a brief visual confirmation to Sajah's 'words'. "Even if you took the scraps we have left you'll never see the rest of it."
The last thing he wanted was to invite the p***k back to where they were staying, but for once Nyko was trying to let Sajah handle the situation on his own. He didn't like how Sajah had phrased the actual exchange though; earning it sounded a lot like whoring himself and Nyko liked to think that maybe Sajah had some semblance of taste.

Leukos watched the exchange unfolding in front of him, not believing at first, but when the bag was wiggled open and the pittance of his former coin could be seen inside, he felt a hard lump settle in his throat. s**t. It really wasn’t here. He had hoped it might, that maybe if he just scowled hard enough or yelled loud enough the coins would be passed back to him without a fight and everything could go back to the way it was. He’d been so hell bent on thinking about what he’d do to Sajahka if he ever saw him again, that he hadn’t considered what he could actually do to get his money back. He had no proof, only his word that he had been robbed. And he couldn’t exactly tell the whole story anyways; he didn’t even remember all of it.
There was no way trying to go back to their place would work. And that would be a terrible idea anyways, who knows what might happen? But he couldn’t just let them leave, how else could he track them down again? There were just too many variables and things he couldn’t have planned on. He didn’t know what to do. Maybe stall until he could think of something?
Leukos crossed his arms and looked from the empty bag, to Nyko, then to Sajahka. “Seems like a waste of perfectly good money to pour it all into one big frivolous purchase. Looks like you are as poorly skilled at handling your finances as you are at handling that language your fingers are so clumsily tripping over.” [7/10]

Sajah was content to leave most of the bickering to them until Leukos bored of badgering them. So long as circumstances didn’t grow heated again he didn’t really need to partake, and he planned on waiting it out, allowing Nyko’s tongue to do the work and then moving on with their day. There was little the other man could do besides gripe if he wasn’t willing to resort back to violence or unfounded accusations, and he was probably entitled to his griping.
Sajah’s eyes narrowed, though, at the last of it.
…your fingers are so clumsily tripping over…
Who did this man think he was?
He wasn’t even poor at handling their finances—or, well, Sajah couldn’t precisely say he actually understood much of anything about them and had no experience with managing actual currency—but so far as Leukos knew, all he had done was stow away most of it and limit how much could be spent-
Or perhaps he was insulting Nyko, for his single purchase?
Regardless, Leukos seemed ill-positioned to be criticizing anyone on the managing of their finances given how well he’d tended to his own.
«No poorer at it than you.»

Nyko held the empty bag up like a grand prize; even going so far as to wave one hand under it in a sweeping motion, displaying it for the 'lucky' contestant. The entire time he did so there was a very firm, very indignant s**t eating grin planted firmly on his face.
And what's in the mystery chest? Nothing but your pride!
To add insult to injury Nyko pocketed the purse and swept his hands around the necklace that now rested securely around his neck. He swept them across his collar bone wordlessly, opening his mouth in an 'o' shape as if to say 'oh, so that's where the prize money went. Silly me.' right before sticking out his tongue.
He was perfectly content to gloat until that last bit. Clumsily?
Flexing his fingers Nyko tried his hand at signing. It wasn't perfect by any means, but he liked to think he got his point across. «Cry me river. You broke, we not.»

Leukos felt all that rage he had stifled from earlier come welling up again as this snide little primping princess had the gall to mock him so childishly. This was not a game, this was his LIFE that was being completely screwed over, and all because of these arrogant, snide, no-good pieces of―
With a growl his hands shot up into the air by his chest, «LISTEN YOU―»
But as seemed to be the trend of the morning, he was interrupted again by the unfortunate merchant who had been caught in the crossfire of their tirade, coughing loudly behind the counter, “Look, I have no idea what is even happening anymore, but unless you are going to buy something else, would you all kindly take it somewhere else please?”

Sajah glanced, eyeing his friend’s theatrics with private amusement. He didn’t suspect Leukos would take them well, but Sajah appreciated the flare, mouth edging up at a corner as Nyko’s fingers flit over the necklace. At least he was pleased with himself. If anything, Leukos’ arrival and objection to the decorative ornament may have made it seem like all the wiser of a purchase.
When Nyko signed, Sajah gave a contained snort, and his teeth flashed.
You broke, we not.
Nyko was not, perhaps, the most elegant of linguists with his fingers, but the point was communicated well enough. Sajah stiffened, though, preparing to step when Leukos growled—but he only gestured, and did not attack or grab Nyko, so the concern was momentary. When the merchant spoke though, Sajah grunted, and glanced to Nyko, notching his head.
«I think we are done here? I am sure the butterfly has other things to do with his time thanks to his financial troubles.»

"I'm very sorry sir, we'll be on our way soon." Nyko flashed a charming, "sincere" smile to the shop keep, amusement seeping out of his very pores. To have ruffled this one up so much that he had automatically responded with signs instead of words, almost like a keldari ready to strike, was beyond priceless.
He openly snickered, barely covering his amusement behind his hand. It took everything in Nyko not to burst out laughing on the spot, because really, this was just too good. Tears welled up in the corners of his eyes for his efforts.
Nyko turned to nod at Sajah, leaning up against his friend with the most ridiculous smile on his face. "I would almost suggest paying him for his performance, but we're tapped out for the day." He wiped away a tear with a delicate sweep of his finger before taking a step back, looking directly at Leukos now, "Best of luck to you."

Caught off guard again by the merchant’s interruptions, the word he had been half-through forming was left unfinished on his hands, frowning as he flexed his fingers. Like he’d be able to afford anything from here now, not with his financial troubles Sajahka had been so considerate in pointing out again. Like it was somehow Leukos’ fault that he was now dealing with far fewer funds. Which, maybe, it kind of was.
And then the other one was laughing.
He was going to lose it. Any second longer having to deal with these two was going to land his arse in a Matori prison for cold-blooded murder.
So Leukos pressed his hands against his temples and tipped his head back, growling frustratingly at the sky, “MMRRH!!” He gripped at his hair and shut his eyes, exhaling roughly through his nose. “F―CK. THIS. No amount of money is worth having to put-up with your s**t! There’s no point trying to reason with tasteless criminals anyways.” He dropped his hands away from his hair to present the pair with a less-than-complimentary gesture of his middle finger, spitting at the dirt by their feet. “Keep the damn money. You children can use it to buy yourselves some class. Or maybe even some morals too, if you can find those on sale. Though I doubt you’d know what to do with them.”
And with that he whipped his ornamented hair around, storming off before he started breaking things. Or people.

Sajahka almost felt guilty.
Almost.
Admittedly, all of Leukos’ trouble in this regard at this point was his fault, and the man didn’t deserve it. But Sajah hadn’t done it because he deserved it; he’d done it because they needed coin, and the opportunity had presented itself. They didn’t ‘deserve’ to live impoverished despite working all their lives simply because they’d been slaves. It wasn’t an entirely fair analogy, since Leukos had earned the money, presumably. But life was not fair, and he wasn’t in any position to spend too much time regretting doing what he needed to in order to take care of himself and Nyko.
So, given that both sides seemed to have said their fill and Leukos looked very ready to be left alone, Sajah nocked his head, giving a light tug at Nyko’s wrist. «Come. I think we have bothered him enough.»

Nyko guffawed.
Never in his life had he ever caused such a reaction in someone and honestly, if he'd been able to capture the moment he would have. There was absolutely nothing this p***k could do to him in public that wouldn't come back and bite him ten fold, and having that sense of security made Nyko cocky to the extreme.
Admittedly he probably would have been just as upset if someone had taken his coin from him, but the tides had turned enough so that Nyko needn't worry about that. Was he really pulling at his hair? He was using more curse words than Nyko ever expected any 'morally upstanding' youth to use, and that in itself was gold.
He allowed himself to be tugged along, moving his fingers just a fraction so that he could hold onto Sajah's hand. "I rather liked today. We should go shopping more often."

Leukos was still shaking as he stormed off, putting as much distance between him and those miscreants as possible. He was supposed to start performing today, get started on working the crowds right away. But there was no way he would be able to focus on anything else but how mad he was, not at the moment anyways, when it was still so fresh. And he hadn’t been able to do anything at all to fix the problem; he was at exactly the same spot as when he had rolled out of bed this morning. Just more angry and resentful.
He started out at a brisk pace, but that slowly gave way to a run, bolting through the streets of Matori in no particular direction. He just needed to get away from it all. From people. From his problems.
Eventually he found himself at a dead end down an alley, face to face with an impassable stone wall. Just another obstacle in his way. With a frustrated snarl he punched at the rocks, pounding his fists against it even as his knuckles split open and blood began to trickle down his wrist. But very quickly that began to just hurt too much, so holding his injured hand gingerly, he slid down the wall to sit on the ground, tucking his knees up to his chest.
He had promised himself. He’d promised to never let his life be at the mercy of someone else ever again. But he’d broken it. He’d made a huge mistake, because he had been a fool… a stupid, naive, trusting boy. Smacking the back of his head against the stones, he shut his eyes and cradled his fist to his chest, heaving a shuddering sigh.
“I... I really messed up…”
