To all these things Dixon simply nodded along, but there was this last point--somekindofahintmaybe--mentioned before, just as briefly and, no doubt, noticeable now only because the magnification repetition. He paused for a moment, furrowing his brow as though he were speaking yet no words just yet; he'd have to let the man finish, after all.

"I'm sorry, mate," he began, taking a slight pause with his fingers drifting up and to a pinch, "but what's this our mission? I'm afraid I've missed something.

Alistair could not help but chuckle. " that is interesting. " emotions seemed to return to his eyes. " you where giving your mission, and while its the same mission you have been completing. it is a mission regardless. i have my own mission. what the goddess gave me, is a path. the gods are real and they hold a secret. i will find it."

he felt the feeling vanish. the rock was now just a pulsing rock. he showed it to dixon. " this is a clue and one i will find the answer to. i was asking if you wanted your mission to be secret or not. i am aware of it. and even if i am only the second prince my name holds power. but it is presumptuous of me to assume you need my help. you do have the queen to help you in your path. and the mayor and the nobility."
he closed his eyes as he let the hot wind blow over him. " i would like mine to be kept secret. i do not know what father would do if he learned the gods where working on the earth. but i doubt it would be beneficial to his plans. " the right heir was after all Eveylin. and her son would be the proper king. he felt his body begin to grow.

" an task ordained by the peoples gods can be viewed in many different ways. i wish you luck count Dixon."
his voice was always the first thing to change. it became deep and thunderous.

this change was not painful. this change never felt earned. " i must go."
with those words he was of his steps thundering as he continued his transformation. it was almost seamless. practiced how each step was just in the right position to add more power and lead him further away by the time he was fully transformed he was in the coldera and soaring using the thermals. he gave a final roar and he was of.

Ye-Yes, of course," Dixon seemed as though he was choking on something for a moment, some word better left said perhaps, and continued waving off his initial foolishness, "guv'--I, um, yes--just must have been hallucinating..."

He wouldn't pursue the prince. Reeling from the drop back down to what would be called normal consciousness, the count was now quite aware of the efforts to split his head in two by these forces: the politics, the 'OH MY GOD DID A GOD JUST TALK TO ME!'--the pressure it was putting already on his relationship with Youkimi and the bosses and drunks down at the mining camps, the potential ******** that...

"We'll keep our missions to ourselves then!" He called after the man. Nearly snapped his head with the slick move; maybe his jowl would catch up sometime next week? "Just stay away from the camp, yeah?"

... And he was gone. Dixon let his shoulders fall. The count who started out as nothing more than a brutish youth, roving and ruling south tenth, was now... A prophet? Get out. No. Refuse. Banish the idea altogether with ten thousand serpents into a pit blacker than these glassy walls! And furthermore he wasn't too fond of the situation...

He let himself down to his knees. The place was hot, but at this point it was as a stiff embrace. He was either meditating or dying, whichever. So many times, he thought, he felt as though there was something out there--and I don't mean as a vague agnostic, too sick and cynical to allow proper participation in one of man's ultimate dialogues--that there was some scheme with players who were actually important. How small his world became! when he accepted that the entire universe was so finite as to be compared to a play.

The sand leftover from--well, whatever caused it in this place--felt good in his hands; he could feel home in it, and not unlike the prince who was dragon and phoenix he clutched and felt it bring him answers without, perhaps beyond, words. He felt more spiritually attuned to it, though; or at least he showed it. He exhaled, practically fire in this heat--which didn't seem to bother him anymore--and let a smile come to him. This land was strong, and it was built on beauty and pride. A slight white corona enveloped his bold violet aura, and within seconds he was rocketing out of the top of the volcano.

Lady Chusi Chhatrapati

Chusi was deep in the south, as she had been for a while. She looked around the vast obsidian city in the mouth of the volcano, she had dozens of Ethens in her employ, restoring what had either eroded away or broke and she had discovered some very interesting things that both amazed her and make her mind whirl. She had sent a letter to Susumu simply asking him to come to Mt. Shaelia since he seemed to show a fair amount of interest when she had brought up the Obsidian city last year. They had managed to make the city livable again, they had opened the large center temple that dominated most of the volcano just yesterday and it was by far more grand than anything she had ever seen, it almost seemed like it doubled as a castle as it grew from the center of the Volcanos mouth and rose up to its rim and down several hundred...if not thousand of feet before connecting to the tunnels below... Chusi still had to do a lot of work when it came to the tunnels, if they where going to offer it to the queen to be her new home, they would have to board up most of the tunnels as even after a year, they hadn't been able to find an end to them.

At the behest of Lady Chhatrapati, Susumu arrived. He came by himself, as there was no need to disrupt the activity of his other officers or the people of Kaishin. Others celebrated the new year, so there were many who had seen to their tasks and work to give them this new day to themselves. Susumu, in the place of his lady, did not allow this to be a day off. If he was able to do good elsewhere, so be it.

He arrived in a sea-blue robe, his sword at his side, and otherwise not wearing much that would draw attention to his position, but he was clear about who he was and what family he served. There was honor in that calling.

He continued into the caves, and after asking a few questions, he was led to the noblewoman who had invited him here. He bowed in greeting. "Lady Chhatrapati."

"Lady Chhatrapati, Ser Susumu is here to see you" someone working on the city said and Chusi turned around "Ser Susumu, I'm glad you managed to make it here so quickly" she said to him with a small tight smile "We'ere almost finished with the city, It will only be a few days now before it can me truly inhabitable. I wanted to get your input on everything here." she said as she waived her hand around the obsidian city, it was a pretty dark looking place but that was to be expected. "The temple is nearly as big as the Lionis castle back in the capital but far grander. We just managed to open it yesterday and already their are significant differences between the city and the temple...." Chusi paused.

His imput concerning the city? He considered reasons for this, but decided that perhaps he would find it in the course of the conversation. He fell into step with the lady and listened as she led him about the city. There were new shops, new roads, and the space was clean, suggeating that there had only been so much time to break the city in, so to speak. It would feel lived in soon enough, if the populous was any indicator.

"Impressive." He admitted. Though, he heard her pause. "What plans do you have for the city and its people?"

He kept his stance relaxed, his arms were at his side, and from what he could tell, the lady was mostly at ease... but there was something on her mind. "I heard that work would continue on improving the temples of the gods."

Chusi looked at Susumu for a moment "I continue to hope that this place can become our new capital. With Blackstone completely eradicated and buried under the hardened stone it would take years if not an entire generation to uncover and with Etherland being... Etherland, The queen needs to find a new place, I'm hoping she could find this place acceptable and the people would soon follow...but I hear that these days she's only a figure head" Chusi said, pressing her lips together in a thin line, obviously not liking the idea that the family her own blood had sacrificed a natural life for was tanking.

She walked with Susumu into the large temple "I know its not orthodox but the temple could become the palace as it seems to already double as one already. Since we managed to restore the stairways most of the way we've found that their are dozens of rooms we have to clear out that are full of rotted and preserved furniture" she said to him besides, if you get to look around the city you'll find their are four more temples. To the north is the Temple of Flames, East is the Temple of Smoke, South is the temple of Embers, and West is the temple of Ash. This large temple that we stand in was called "Mandir ka Fiammetta" she said as she walked with him into the largest part of the temple "However something even more interesting is this" she said as she looked up at a large piece of Ivory as big as the front of a house. It was intricately carved to depict a woman hardly clothed in flowing white sheets and ornate metal jewelry upon her arms, torso, neck and legs. Large heavy wings came from the back of the scantily clad woman that despite being hardly clothed seemed to be powerful. Her hands where carved driving a spear up though the ribcage of another being but this one had large horns coming from its head and pointed teeth carved from its forever screaming mouth. The second being had pulled a helm from the barely clothed woman to show that beautiful face of none other then what could be described as a slightly younger looking Agni. Chusi looked up at it "We where planning on removing this from the room.... but if we remove this then we would have to find something to cover up the obsidian carving behind it...." Chusi trailed off again as she nodded to a few smaller phoenixes that would gingerly pull it from the wall.

Behind the Ivory carving was a obsidian carving of the same horned being that had been speared in the ivory carving, except now the woman with the horns looked less monstrous and more peaceful, surrounded by a gentle flame that was carved into the obsidian in a way to make it look like it was spiraling around the room. The way it was carved it looked like it was ethereal and without a doubt a carving of some other worldly being such as Agni, a possible being of fire and flames, but the very thought of that would probably seem blasphemous to most who saw it, which would explain Chusi's hesitation to move the Ivory carving that depicted Agni in few clothing only to have the wall show an alternate fire goddess. "We're doing our best to improve, but were running across several snags like this, in another room we found what looks like a mass grave of unburied warriors. Since we're in Agni's temple I've tried to get in contact with her despite my misgivings of the goddess, in order to find out how we should burry them... but she refused to speak to anyone"

Susumu studied the carving as well as the obsidian work, the piece that seemed more kin to what he remembered of ancient and older tellings of the fury and might of the goddess. Once upon a time, the goddess was a being of war, if he read the ivory correctly. It suggested that someone saw her as being the reason they succeeded against dragonkind. How curious that this magnificent craftsmanship was made to hide the work behind it, the work that was part of the building itself and was much older than the ivory.

The knight seemed to have a unique interest in the wall. The gods had many faces, some suggested, and many held that gods held the appearance and being of the people who worshiped them. Was it possible that the gods were neither phoenix or dragon? Was that the statement the statue was meant to show? Or did this horned figure represent a sister to their fiery goddess?

"The discretion is understandable.... We have long been without a complete understanding of the lore. Perhaps as we educate the people, they can look beyond the images of the temple, or see more meaning in the images." Though, it made him wonder why the obsidian carving was hidden. Was there an argument of theocratic opinion? Was it the specific request of the goddess? A decision of priests or firekeepers? The goddess resided at the flame.

But, the corpses that were found did need another place to rest. Perhaps they were buried here as sentries, or to help guard the temple in the afterlife. The knight had not seen the face of the goddess either, and he would not presume to know her will. It was difficult to know what the goddess wanted to be done with her temple. But then again, that begged its own question about how the gods felt about mortal attempts at worship.

"I would feel better if we had some affirmation from the goddess." But, in lieu of that... "We will have to make due. Perhaps we can have one of the firekeepers dictate a new and more accurate visage of the goddess to stand in place of the ivory. It is of beautiful workmanship, and I would hate to see it go to waste."

Do we not defeat ourselves as we grow in strength and wisdom? He mused as he stepped away from the wall.

"As for the dead, they deserve a warrior's burial. They were buried here, but perhaps we should arrange a funeral pyre so they maintain their honor and dignity and we can make better use of the building. Do we have a proper place of worship for Agni that is in active use?"

"I'm actually quite impartial to the carving myself" Agni said as she stood slightly outside the large archway to the temple, dressed in a flowing red dress that looked like flames moving around her tall slender body "Though I'm surprised its lasted so long, its older than Phoenix kind. I expected it to be shattered or recarved" she said as she walked toward the carved Ivory, looking up at it It was carved from the largest Giwa to ever walk this world, the meat from its bones fed the people that use to live here for three months its pelt made more than a thousand blankets" she said before looking over at Susumu, lowering her head to him for a moment "Complete understanding of the Lore is perhaps nearly impossible at this time, however it could just be called history, a history that was long before yours" she said as she reached out and gestured toward Ivory carving "This was called 'The Spear piercing the darkness' an artists rendition of my killing blow against the Queen Fiammetta of Cenere. To you what might be a noble depiction of triumph, is to me... doing as I was told as a soldier" she said as she brought her hands together, twisting one of the rings on her hands "Back then all the gods where at war, gods ruled over other gods, and tried to taken control over this land. It was not even remotely peaceful like it I now, the barrier that I have raised would have been nothing compared to what Queen Fiammetta could do" she frowned "She could stand in the center of the battlefield and send out waves of fire out to destroy her enemies. Thousands of my kin, both siblings and children where killed by her. A war of gods is a carnage you will never see... all over a stupid book"

Agni then looked over at Chusi "The dead do not belong here, they should be moved as safely as possible to the Ancient tower, if they have swords and shields symbols should be carved on the back of them that indicate their names, they should be carve onto their resting places." she said to her.

Chusi smiled slightly "The people have a set thought on what the goddess looks like... they see her has benevolent and beautiful but modest and stubborn, this depicts her as a warrior that they aren't use to seeing" she said "Her killing of a Dragon might even set more prejudice amongst people who read it the wrong way" she said and then she heard the female voice. Chusi turned around to look at the goddess for a moment before she dropped to one knee "Great Agni" she said to her, bowing her head. Chusi listened to her speak, keeping her head lowered as she spoke about the carving in front of them "I suspected as much with the bodies though I did not know if that was to be the right thing" she said to her as she calculated what she had said, a war over a book and a war of gods, by that logic then this city may have at one point been populated by gods, but then...they where all gone, they had so few gods and most of them ascended, Agni had been found "if you don't mind my being so bold, you said you where a soldier only following orders, does this mean that you obeyed a god more powerful then yourself?" she asked, trying to imagine some being even powerful then the fire goddess.

The knight had not been expecting the sudden appearance of deity, least of all the very one they had been talking about. The knight kept his head low, respectfully looking down even as he turned and with grace and practice dropped to a knee before the goddess in question. He braced one arm on his leg, and the other pressed flat against the ground.

He had no objections to the bodies being taken care of in this manner, and so it would be done if he saw to it himself. The knight was not so bold, certainly not when it came to learning firsthand the story and experience of the goddess. Though, he understood well the responsibility and duty that came with being a subordinate. One followed the orders of those stronger than themselves. He just found himself marveling a little bit at the bravery, or simple foolhardy bravado, of Lady Chhatrapati. Was it wise to speak so familiarly to the goddess?

Nevertheless, now that she had spoken concerning the statue and of the identity of the horned figure, there need not be any confusion and no need to hide the other figure. It was important to their history. For the present, the knight could ask or say nothing. It was not his place.

Agni raised an eyebrow at Chusi's question "quite the perceptive minx" she mused but then smiled and nodded her head in answer to her question "Yes, I served one stronger then me. A woman that lead my people and all those that shared my likeness to war against those who did not." She frowned "I was very successful in those days, but I was betrayed by my siblings and locked away in obsidian and forced to watch my first born die because I could not free myself... Supposedly we won the war but I don't understand how." Agni paused for a moment "both sides lost in my opinion, Our enemy was driven to near extinction and everything we had worked for was swallowed up by a void of power that we failed to see.... The woman we called our leader was insane... from what I've managed to find out she was buried alive but those who followed her still suffered."

Agni looked at Chusi "No matter who you follow, someone more powerful exists." she then looked at Susumu "You may raise. You are Ethen after all"

Chusi bowed her head to the goddesss, she didn't know what to say to that "I'm sorry for your loss" she whispered to her, biting down on her lip, she had never had the desire to be a goddess but what she had just said had her agreeing with what she already knew, she would not enjoy being a goddess.
