What a funny girl. It was ever surprising how easily her demeanor could flip on the dime, from salty and irritated one moment to quietly flustered the next. Though from his own experience, perhaps that wasn’t so odd: teens were just funny like that. Too many emotions and hormones flying around in one small space, so mood swings were common. One just had to hunker down and weather out the storm.

As it stood, it would appear Chrysanthe had shifted to a rather glum mood, looking more put out than usual. If she wasn’t going to elaborate on what had brought her to this country, or who she was chasing, Leukos wasn’t going to pry: he wasn’t exactly blameless himself in keeping his own story under wraps. But he felt he ought to at least try to ease her mind a bit from the infinite troubles she appeared to heap upon herself.

He touched the top of her thigh, just for a moment, to draw her attention to him again instead of the wall she had been scrutinizing. “Hey,” he said, folding his hands in his lap as he smiled. “Don’t worry about it. From what I’ve gathered, you’re a smart girl. I have no doubt you’ll be able to figure out a way to find what it is you are looking for. It just takes perseverance and flexible mind. Besides…” he shrugged, laughing a bit lightly, “You’re feisty enough to kick the a** of any obstacle that gets in your way.”

Chrysanthe almost didn't notice the touch, but when she did the girl shifted but had no real time to react before his hand was gone again. She just glanced at him with narrowed eyes, albeit a bit flustered at the sudden affectionate gesture but determined to stay sharp. "I suppose." She admitted as he tried to perk her up - at least she supposed that was what this had shifted towards. Chrysanthe shook her head rapidly, "I'm sure I will figure it out, you're right. But what about you?"

Her brow furrowed thoughtfully as the slightest hint of concern showed, "If you're here for a friend then why are you gathering money like that....is everything okay?" Shouldn't he be fine? Was there a reason for the performance? Surely if he just wanted to do it for fun then he wouldn't have taken the money from those disgusting men....unless he was that greedy of a person? Chrys bit the inside of her cheek. Truly she didn't see him as being that way so surely there was a good reason behind it all.

It warmed Leukos’ heart that it seemed the girl took his words in stride without much offense, shifting the topic away from whatever had made her so glum.

Ah. Towards him, it would seem.

Like he had pointed out but moments before, she was a smart girl. Some might see his performance and not question it, taking things at face value. But making connections that others missed was the mark of an analytical mind; and while he couldn’t be sure what level of education Chrys had received, and despite her explosive impulsiveness, it was clear she wasn’t just some dumb blonde. But he’d figured that out already; only a fool would make any other conclusion.

“What about me?” he reiterated, collecting his wandering thoughts for a moment. Was everything okay?

Besides the newest bucket of stress she’d been so kind as to dump on his head with the men from earlier, Leukos was practically soaked through already with troubles. He was stuck on a landmass not his own, with a livelihood dependent on the fickle generosity of others, forced to having to reside in a part of the city that made his skin crawl every time he even thought about it, with no means of escaping these circumstances and no one to ask for help. And worse yet, he had no one else to blame but himself for the rubbage heap his life had become at the moment.

So no, things weren’t okay.

“Everything’s fine, don’t worry yourself over it,” he said, speaking calmly around a false smile as internally he screamed into the swirling abyss of his anxiety. “I already concluded my business here with them, but I’m afraid I may have gone a little overboard with escapades into life as a tourist. I hadn’t budgeted properly, and now I find myself having to make up for all that frivolous spending. It’s not too heavy of an oversight; just enough to force me to switch lodgings and earn some extra coin for the trip back home. So even though I might be here a bit longer than originally intended, we won’t be neighbors anymore. Not that we couldn't still entertain each other's company, if you wouldn't be opposed.”

Chrys blew a stray piece of hair out of her gaze, "I'm surprised that you aren't more eager to turn things to yourself." She quipped lightly. Where was the, 'Oh you care about me? So nice!' or whatever it was that those who enjoyed attention did in these situations. Instead the man was simply wiping away her concern like it was nothing and Chrysanthe found her gaze rolling in frustration. Why did she even bother? It wasn't like they were friends or anything. Of course it wasn't any of her damn business what Leukos did with his life.

"Liar." She found herself muttering under her breath with a narrowed gaze, "But I'll take it since it's none of my business I guess. But ya can't say I didn't offer." She stood and brushed the dirt from her clothing, "Still, I guess it's easy enough to spend more than expected." Chrysanthe reached down to touch the money pouch that hung at her own side. It was far lighter than it had been at the beginning of her journey - that much was definitely for certain.

Chrysanthe shook her head, "If your entertaining keeps you fed I guess I can't complain." The girl shrugged her shoulders, "I'm probably not much for stayin' longer in this area anyways." Her golden gaze flickered around the alley thoughtfully, "It's just a waste of time trying to find one fish in the whole damn sea." She smiled, a rare teasing expression crossing her features, "Though seems we're good at finding each other somehow anyways despite that. So I guess if you do really need help you can always try to bother me again....not that I'll linger around to keep shooting creepers away from ya, but if I do see something I guess I would intervene..." She trailed off before glancing away, "It should be safe enough now, we should get going before it gets to be evening."

Leukos found he couldn’t really be offended as he heard Chrysanthe muttering under her breath: he was lying. But it was a lie used to keep trouble away from others, so in his books, it was fine. Lying to trick someone into doing something for you, or swindling them out of their possessions...now that he couldn’t stand.

But whether he was untruthful or not, it had worked, because she was standing and moving on. Leukos joined her, cracking his neck from side to side. “I suppose you are right about that; I wonder what the odds even are, with so many other people in the city. Perhaps we are just fated to keep bumping into each other till the end of time.”

He bent to retrieve his things, patting off the sides as he slung it over his shoulder. And though she hardly seemed like the type to accept a compliment⏤because for reasons Leukos couldn't fathom, the girl had decided she disliked him⏤that didn’t mean he still wasn’t going to be civil. So he smiled down at her, perhaps for the last time, and squared his posture. “Well, thank you for your concern, whether or not you feel inclined to give it to me freely. I’d like to say it’s been a pleasure meeting you again, but things got off to a fabulously rough start again. So here’s to hoping that our next meeting will be in more pleasant circumstances, without having to tempt that trigger-finger of yours.”

He began to walk down the alley, but as he came shoulder to shoulder with her, he paused, hesitating. And since this might be the last time he saw her, Leukos figured he might as well say what was on his mind, despite the reaction it might garner from the volatile girl. “It might seem tacky to say, but you really should smile more: you’re a lovely girl. I hope some lucky boy will be able to capture your heart, as I seem to have had a rough time of it…. But I suppose that just makes it a more valuable prize in the end~” And in a rather brash move, he dipped in to steal a kiss, pivoting on his heel to escape down the alley before swift vengeance in the form of a wooden bolt could be lodged into his fleeing back.

Worth it.
