He stopped. "We can do that. No joke? Is there like....a place I hit up?" The formalities of fighting here were lost on him, as fighting anywhere else was what you avoided and usually brought on when someone got in your face or business.

"This place, actually," Al informed. "There are wards that keep anyone from getting hurt," he gestured over where a rune was glowing brightly, assuring all was working as intended.
"No fight club, just sparring." He smiled crookedly.
He glanced around again before walking down onto the field to stand directly in front of Kai.
"One free shot, on me. But then I wont be holding back."

Kai stared at the skinnier man before rolling his shoulders, adjusting his grip on Fin.
"Aight. You asked for it." He wasn't fast and graceful, but he moved to him and threw his fist at him, Fin curled around his fingers, and went for his side.

Al took the hit in stride but quickly spun around, a staff suddenly appearing to his hands and swiping in Kai's direction. It wasn't a hard hit - but enough to remind Kai that looks could be deceiving as it was sent with the same amount of force he received.
The black dog snarled hungrily in Al's thoughts.
It was a little unsettling, hearing Nuru snarl like that.

Staff. Right. Well, at least it wasn't sharp, but it had the same effect as a old man beating you with their cane. A few flash backs came to mind, but he raised a hand to shove the staff aside.
"Calm down, Wizardo." And went for another stab.

"You and your damn staff like some magical beard ********." He said, eloquently describing what he saw. It helped that he had not seen any recent movies including The Hobbit Trilogy and Harry Potter.
Taking the trident, he moved in, shoulder down and went to shove the trident into Al's chest. His own hand crackled as the trident pushed into his hand but was glad it wasn't shoved entirely into his skin.
At least he had a solid enough grip this time.

That somehow made even less sense, "...I don't have a beard." A beard would look awesome on him though, he'd mentally decided. He took the hit but then reflexively lashed out at Kai in an attempt to get him to back off. He really needed to get some distance if he was going to teach this trainee anything.

"Ya got a staff." He pointed out, following after Al to be as close as he could get to him and continued moving to stab the trident at his center.
"Can you even grow one?"

Al was pretty slippery, taking the scratches from the other weapons tines, but just a reminder he was making some headway now. He paced himself. Waited. Then rounded on Kai suddenly, cracking the teeth of his staff across his face and tearing into his shield hungrily. His bite was pretty painful for his size, he continued moving away - in a full sprint now. Was his weapon glowing more than usual?
"I could grow a beard if I wanted!"

When Al went to hit his face, it did one thing Kai did not like. Mess with his hair. Nobody touched his hair unless he wanted them too. He could give a damn about someone punching his face in, but his hair was an entirely different story.
Fin swam up in his mind, bubbling like boiling water as he cried out. "Tear him to chum! Let's make the water red!"
In a moment he was up against Al again, and this time punched his trident into his side. His hand crackled as the blow shot back into his arm and up into his shoulder, and he gritted his teeth through it.

s**t, Kai was surprisingly fast for a big guy - his attack essentially sending Al through the air and spinning across the muddy turf. When he finally came to a stop - it gave him enough distance.
Damn his side hurt. He dug his fingers into the mud and hauled himself back up, weapon brandished in his other hand. A fiery violet glow built up in the jaws before finally bursting forth with enough force to sear the last dregs of Kai's shield right off him. The heat was intense but thanks to the wards, Kai was spared being lightly toasted - possibly having that hair burned off to which he seemed so fond (so flammable).
Al fully got to his feet, now surrounded by singe marks but completely unscathed.

Both Kai and Fin felt a swell of maybe actually being a bit capable with this weapon situation - until red-scarf twig decided he would pull some whoopass out of thin air and beepity-boopity-blow his a** down.
One moment Kai was about to smack him down, and then next he was staring up at the sky feeling the mud soaking through the back of his coat.
"What...."

Al walked over to where Kai had landed and desummoned Nuru to offer a hand. The weapon was curled up in Al's thoughts and most contented with himself as he decided to snooze victoriously.
Al was possibly clutching his side with the other hand. Kai didn't get through, but holy s**t.
"Did you manage to learn anything?"
