The clearing is loud from the murmur of kin-speech, but over it you can hear a cacophony. There are canines and birds making a ruckus off that way, somewhere. Of course, they're just animals - it could mean anything.

Bury lifted her head towards the heat of the sun, letting it wash over her for a moment, giving enough warmth in her bones to lift herself to her hooves. Her ears perked, tuning out the sound of the unfamiliar kin around her and instead honing in on the sound of unfamiliar creatures in the distance.

Those around her sounded as confused as she felt about where she was. To ask questions was to waste time, she thought, and time was of the essence if she was to find the missing children.

Wings Sleep uncurled from her nap, only to realize something was wrong. Why were there no smalls sounds from the young ones? She heard the noises from somewhere else, the larger creatures it seemed like, but no cries of anything else. Moving to look around some more, she found drag marks, but still didn't feel that was right.

Eventually she just went where she felt was the best path to go on. See went away from all the sounds, for surely a group of young would cause more noise from the creatures if they had gone that way.

Take could hardly allow such an insult. The buck set off on his own, fully intending to take the thief down and savage him something fierce underneath his wrathful hooves and antlers. It was the shrills and screeches of animals that made his ears twitch. Perhaps they'd seen something. Worse yet, maybe they were feeding on young, hapless infants unable to protect themselves...

Take lengthened his stride, quickly moving towards the source.

Beloved peered around at the glade full of murmuring kin. Lost lambs? That shall not stand! Taking an inventory of options around her, she determined to follow the sound of the uproar of the wild creatures - for surely they would be the most reliable witnesses to any danger!

Haunt the Earth breathed in deep as her eyes slid open. There was something strange about this place. She didn't remember falling asleep here...

She did, however, remember being put in charge of a clutch of sacs. She hadn't wanted them, but there was no one else who could do it. Or so she remembered being told. A strange fissure of emotion went through the doe as she stood. Something dangerous had taken the sacs. She didn't know how she knew that, she just did. With a sigh, she eased her body up off the ground and started to look around.

There were many kin here, but she was suspicious of all of them. She was suspicious of everyone. Haunt took a look at the choices in front of her. There were drag marks on the ground which could mean something dragged the clutch away. Or perhaps something broke through the trees...though she was fairly sure she would have woken up to that kind of noise. She could hear animals making noise in another direction but...

She chose the most obvious trail, to her mind. When she finally took a step, she followed the trail of drag marks.

Freedom looked around but coudl not understand what happened. One day she was in a familiar place and the next wake she felt uncertain. Where are the precious little lambs she was looking after? They were so innocent, defenseless, she had to protect them when she found them near a cave. But now...they were missing...

Her motherly instinct to go out and find them heightened. Sporadic jolts of panic crept through her mind. Where are they? Where are they?

The group of kin in her sight did not seem too trusting. Giving each one a skeptical look, Freedom turned her gaze somewhere else.

She had a few choices: Hoofprints on the ground, fallen branches, barks and bird caws, they all seem to spell danger... She sniffed the musky air but got nothing. The collected odour in the same vicinity with other kin distorted her senses.

Going by sheer instinct, the doe went to choose her own path. There was a faint trail away from the group of kin, like a ditch but overgrown with creeping vines. Perhaps that's where the thieves could have gone.

Musings was lost in the strange floaty, warm feeling this twilight land had to offer when she slowly but strongly began to feel a feeling of loss. She was missing something, someone? OH MY MOTHERFATHER, THE BABIES.

She glances around her legs, her hooves, the kin next to her’s hooves, around the group of kin that she doesn’t even question the purpose of. What an irresponsible mother she was. Wait. Was she a mother? Were they her’s? Goodness, even for Muse, to have gotten so carried away to forget something like that was usually beyond her.

She hears the sounds of animals and is immediately fearful to find her(?) little ones gobbled up by a pack of wolves or with their eyes pecked out OR- Musings decides not to think about it anymore and just runs towards the sounds to investigate.

Please follow the dice-related instructions only for your choice.
--
If you picked A you follow the tracks for a while. It's a long, meandering path that takes you, eventually, to a hilly slope that turns to rocks. It's a little less obvious where to go once you meet the rocks, but there's only really one way: up. It's relatively risk-free, but you're winded when you arrive - lose 1 HP. As you wander, one firefly comes to see what you're doing. If you rolled an even number, divide your roll by 5 and take the mathematical floor (round down) - that's the number of additonal curious firefly followers who you've managed to attract in your journey. (Gain 1 base firefly + roll/5 rounded down if you rolled even; gain 1 firefly only if you rolled odd)
--
If you picked B, your trail is short...kind of. Whatever knocked those branches down quite clearly took to the skies afterwards. As far as you can tell, they were headed in the direction of a tall nearby cliff, though - and you do whatever you can to make it there. It's a hasty journey, though, and you almost trip as you stumble up the rocks. How did a crack that wide get there? If you rolled 8 or higher, you manage to catch yourself before anything bad happens. Lose 1 HP. Otherwise, lose 3 HP tripping. Regardless of your roll, 3 fireflies decide your haste is interesting.
--
If you picked C, you clearly went in the wrong direction. You're not sure how or why this is happening, but you've found yourself engaged in a strange hunting contest or territory battle between honking swans and vicious snarling hounds, with nothing kin-shaped in sight except for your fellow searchers. Abort, abort, abort...

If you rolled 8 or higher, you manage to escape notice, but you trip as you flee. Lose 3 HP and gain 4 firefly followers. Otherwise, you're definitely noticed - and swans and hounds can be pretty vicious. Lose 5 HP, but gain 8 firefly followers for your valor.

When you're back at the clearing, it's pretty obvious that everyone else has left for a particular cliff, so you head that way.
--
If you picked D, with a hum, skip, and a hop, you've managed to find a well-trodden path up a steep incline. The path is fairly steep, so you lose 2 HP climbing. On the other hand, two fireflies like your little tune and follow along. If you rolled an odd number, divide your roll by 5 and take the mathematical modulus (the remainder - although if your number is perfectly divisible by 5, you can use 5 as the remainder). Apparently you've attracted a small troupe of...firefly dancers?

--
CHOICE TWO

The higher you climb, the more everything below you seems to fade away. Everything is still strangely purple-colored here, though. You set out to explore the cliff, but can't seem to find any tracks, or any sign that whatever strange force is still here. Was it all a red herring?

After conferring with the other kin on the journey - who've all made it here, one way or another - you realize that all paths really must have pointed here. That's...pretty confusing, honestly. Well, it's confusing until an eagle's sharp cry cuts through the air. What you see is quite a bit bigger than an eagle (or a kin), but it travels swiftly through the air on powerful wings and gives the group a haughty glare.

It flies off, almost taunting. It alights on a few trees - and they really make those mysteriously tall, here: the tops of the canopies are only a meter or two lower than the cliff's height, even though you must have climbed for a few hours. It finally lands, though, atop another cliff - definitely more than a few kin-lengths away. Was that there before?

And more importantly, it has to know something, right? How will you approach this?

A) You believe you can fly. Or, you know, jump. You sleuth out a ledge somewhere on the cliff, which brushes against some strong tree branches, which you can then use to climb down. Hey, you're a good climber. It's much better than backtracking.
B) Climb back down the cliff and start heading toward the next one. Slow but not at all risky, right?
C) There's a felled log which you could use as a bridge - if you got some other kin to help you move it over. It'll be a group effort, because it's huge, but the trees here really are huge, and it's clear that it'll bridge the gap after some time spent working.
D) Everyone else seems to have this well in hoof. You'd really much rather eat berries - you've already climbed so far. And there are some bountiful bushes over there.

Due to the delay, you have until 1 AM PT (GMT - 8 ) on February 27, 2017 to post your reply. Please roll 1d20 with your post.

She had left her counterparts and had trudged into the jungle towards the commotions and realized quickly that the whole thing was a very terrible idea. She was fairly familiar with the damage a swans wings could do and as for hounds and those teeth, she didn't want a part of that!

Turning and moving back slowly she however tripped and gained a few bruises but was otherwise unharmed. At least some fireflies were starting to follow her around. Was that a good thing?

It would seem that everyone was no back in the same place and she looked over towards Keeper. "Any luck?" She asked him hoping his venture had been far more enlightening than her own. "Clearly following the voices wasn't a good idea, though isn't it often said you should never follow unknown voices?" She wasn't sure where she had heard that but she was almost certain it was a thing.

As they walked along she became apparent of the scenery change. "This is a strange place, don't you agree?" She asked him and then turned her eyes skyward as a large eagle, at least she thought it was an eagle took off. "What do you think that was?" She was suddenly curious about whatever manner of creature it was.

Was it leading them somewhere? Climbing was definitely not something she was good at so it would seem to her she'd have to back track, though that log was perfectly capable as well.

Keeper frowned. He'd guessed that the eggs must have been dragged atop a pelt, but he did not think traveling the uphill, rocky terrain with such cargo would've been comfortable, or even likely. To turn back now, however, would be to risk precious time: he had nowhere else to go but up.

He walked up and up and up, and he didn't know if hours had passed or days. Sometimes he would catch glimpses of other kin beside him: the lumbering steps of a sightless, long-mouthed Kimeti; the orange-and-gold mane of a graceful Kiokote; and even the strange, rattling horns of another Acha. But for the most part, he was alone, and he expected he would fare no better during the rest of his search—which was why he was surprised to see other kin milling at the top, with Surviving the Storm among them.

"No," he said, grateful for a companion to share his disappointment with. "But I think we're on the right trail. We must be, if so many found their way here."

Or was it a trap? He kept the fear to himself.

"It is... it felt almost timeless, during my climb," he admitted. A part of it could simply have been the scenery, the purple haze, the strange turn of events—but perhaps it was something more. These were not the swamps he knew.

Before he could convey this, however, a cry came from above, and his head snapped up. He was silent for a moment; then, "Do you think it could be a gryphon?"

It did have a timeless feel to it. She turned her gaze towards those around them and wondered if they all felt the same way. She just wanted to find these babies and get them back home where they belonged.

This place was almost a little too strange for her.

"I suppose that is what it could have been. I've never seen one before but now that you mention it it does fit the description...." She said recalling someone speaking about one once. She had forgotten there was such a thing. She had babies on the mind so her thoughts were pretty selective right now.

Looking over their options she pondered what exactly the best route to go here might be. Those berries didn't exactly look safe, but then again they could be. She didn't want to chance anything though. Getting sick here would probably be a terrible thing.

"I don't think I'm going to try and jump that." She gave it another look and shook her head. "If there were enough of us I'm sure we could use that log as a bridge once it was moved in the right spot." she offered though there was always just walking back down. Did she really want to do that though?

"There's always heading back, unless you think you might be able to climb down those trees? I wouldn't chance that though. What if you missed, you could die." She wasn't talking to him exactly about this, it was more of open thinking at this point.

"I haven't seen one, either," Keeper said, voice quiet. Perhaps they were angry at the tribe, at the pool, to have ignored them for so long. (What happened to the pool?) Gryphons were considered sacred to his kin, and he didn't know whether he hoped or feared that his guess was true.

"Ah! A clever idea, that," he said, moving to the log. He tilted his head, gauging its considerable weight and size. "I must agree, however; I don't think we could do this alone."

She noted his hushed tones and looked towards the sky almost expecting it to come swooping down on them for talking about it.

Sizing the log up they wouldn't need very many others but it would be perfectly possible for them to put it into position. Since there was no way she'd be climbing down a tree. At least not today.

"At least it looks like some others may consider the option at least we can plan out how to move once more come over." She offered to him and started to figure out what needed to be done in order to move it.

Yearning stumbles over and over as she climbs the cliff, her mind zoning in on the simple task of reaching the top. Everything else falls away into the silent background of the mist. At one point she stumbles hard, tripping on a huge crack and hurting herself in the process. She's bound and determined to reach her destination though. The youngs lives were counting on it.

Upon reaching the top she stops to give herself a small rest. Unfortunately it's soon interrupted by the cry of a very large.. eagle? as it flys overhead before landing on the top of another cliff. It has to be involved, somehow. Yearning looks around desperately at her options.

She can risk jumping, but believes that would probably just cause her more hurt... There's always climbing back down, though she'd have to watch out for that large crack she'd...never mind, she didn't want to chance that and it would be ever so slow, not to mention the fact that she'd have to climb back up the other cliff. Yearning notices some tasty looking berries over to the side on a bush and her tummy grumbles in hunger. She sighs and turns away from it though, the young are in need and she's only just managed to calm her panic. Eating berries instead of searching would just bring it back.

There's a broken tree log on the ground that some others are already standing by. Yearning thinks perhaps they might be deciding how to move it across to bridge the other cliff. She trots over to them and looks to the edge. "Are you wanting to cross with this? I will help move it, if you are." She waits for their responses.
