Joy herself didn't come out unscathed from the headbutt. But she wasn't really trying to incapacitate the guy, maybe provoke him enough under some misguided belief that working through one's aggression with another would end up in friendship. (90's television shows, shame on you and your portrayals of conflict!)
Sparring with weapons was one thing but just plain old brawling? Joy hadn't done that with her friends in years. At least not since she developed her figure and suddenly her friends were just using it as an excuse to cop a feel and not even Joy would have that. Of course, if Joy actually knew Jason outside of missions, this would be one major red flag for her. Unfortunately for both of them, Joy just really liked getting hurt.
Her game-plan was simple: hit him back for each hit she got. One of them will get tired of it eventually and then they'll lie there in an exhausted heap and laugh over how stupid it was in the first place. (90's television shows, shame on you and your portrayals of conflict resolutions.)

Jason had never been an aggressive person, nor had he been particular good as using his fists in a fight. Most of the time they were held up in defense, shielding himself from punches and blows of older kids or whoever felt like kicking his a** to the curb. As a hunter he had improved somewhat, though his skill lied with a blade, and not hand to hand. Right now he may have gone through a slight 'personality shift', but his ability to fight was just the same. Even so it was clear he had the advantage. He knew how to move his body, twisting it so her blows would glance off, and his size allowed him to step out of the way and completely dodge her. It didn't mean he didn't cop any punches, and with her knowledge he could tell she knew how to use her fists. He cussed her out, spouting words that he would never normally use, his fists flying and seeing to beat her into to ground, to assert his authority and prove he was the stronger man, and she should have never messed with him.

Thing of it is, Joy cussed right back and had the unfair advantage of knowing another language with a string of colorful swears to mix in with the usual ones. Add the fact that she was just having a blast from it, there might have been a squeak or two of laughter from her. She was taking this seriously even if that smile made it seem like otherwise except she wasn't really trying to win. Not in the traditional sense. She would try to go the distance and this would be a great endurance workout for her.

The more she cussed and sword and even laughed in that ridiculous language of hers, the more annoyed Jason got, swinging his arms around and launching his body so he could try pin her, continuously missing and copping more blows to his face. He was trying to win. And by dam he was going to if he had to summon his sword. Even if it was forbidden to do so he would do it. He stepped back, wiping his face and swearing some more.

Breathing hard, body aching, that smile still plastered on her face, Joy got up and wiped at her sweat and was that blood? She wiped the fluids on her dirtied coat, "Now what?" she asked, not shifting from a defensive stance.

"Now..." He breathed, feeling blood drip from his nose. He ignored it and surged forwards. "Now I wipe that ******** smile off your face!" He sought to pin her to the ground and throttle her some more.

A hand grabbed out and took a handful of Jason's collar, gripping it and yanking it back and away from his target.
"Oh no you don't!" He said, and pulled him back. There behind them was a blonde Life hunter who was none too pleased as hearing a mess of swear words, shouting, and some things he would need google-translate to figure out.

Joy would eventually realize that Jason's actions and intentions weren't exactly as good natured or innocent as hers were. But it was highly likely that it would have been too late by then. So while Melvin's interference with the scuffle was initially met with a disappointed "Awww," the Moon trainee straightened herself up.
["Hey, Melvin," she greeted instead and tried to make herself look presentable. Somewhat.

His reckless charge was stopped short, a force pulling him backwards and nearly sending him to the ground. Jason whizzed around to see none other then Melvin standing there, stopping him from finishing what he started. But he did stop, pulling his coat from the lifer's grasp and casting hateful glares at the both of them. "Of course you'd show up." He said, trying in vain to look any sort of presentable as blood was pouring down from his nose and staining his clothes.

"Starting another fight there, Jason. Tsk. Tsk. Or should I say Joy." He said to the lady, looking her with the same wondering gaze of who had sparked this fight in the first place.
"There are training grounds for these things." He reached into his pocket and pulled out some tissues, holding one out for Jason.

"Fight?" Joy blinked, "We weren't fighting. Were we? I thought we were just um," she snapped her fingers in an attempt to find the right word. "Barring. No! Um," wow words easily failed the trainee, didn't it?

Jason was busy contemplating the insanity of Melvin handing him a tissue while Joy was trying to talk her way out of this. He had no intention of hiding what he was doing. "I know exactly what I was doing." He spoke coldly, taking the tissue (and not thanking him, cause he was evil like that) and holding it against his nose to stop the blood flow. "I didn't feel like using the training grounds either."

"Of course you wouldn't. And it was fighting. I heard you two swearing and shouting all the way down the hallway. Maybe try to be discrete with what you are doing next time..." And he reached out, ruffling Jason's hair. "...and find a new place to get physical with each other."
He smiled at Jason on that note.

"'Kaaaaay~" Joy drawled, sounding like a student being routinely scolded by a teacher. "No fighting in the commons room from now on," she promised, raising one hand while crossing her heart with the other. "So, other than stopping us, whatcha here for, Melvin? You done with my stuff?"

Oh, if only he had a moment with Melvin alone, how he would enjoy piercing the mans chest with his blade... The look he threw Melvin was nothing short of murderous, the inane prattling of the younger moon catching his attention in the worst of ways. "The ******** you talking about you stupid-" he swore at Joy again, using a very inappropriate word. "And discrete my a**, I'll do what I want."
