Oliver... Oliver Kipling...

Oh!

"He is a teacher, is he not? Or am I mistaken?" Ethiriel seemed to recall an Oliver from quite a while back, but she honestly couldn't remember if it was from before or after her growth. He was another to-be guardian with many questions, if memory served; Henry certainly was like a magnet to them.

All while they spoke, she didn't look to Laurel.

Smiling, Ethiriel continued. "My guardian is Henry Knight, a nurse in the Gambino hospital. He is quite a nice gentleman, I am sure he would love to meet you."

"Mhm! He's a professor!" Laurel chimed, waving his hands about in front of him. Oliver had explained what he did and how important it was, but Laurel had never actually seen him teach. All he'd seen his father do for work so far was bring big stacks of papers home and sit at his desk with a strained face. That was something called "grading" and it apparently required a lot of coffee to accomplish. Laurel thought the ritual was quite strange.

"But, wait, do you know him?" He realized, clasping his hands and grinning. "How did you meet? Was it a long time ago? Where were you?"

Then, he paused. What was she looking at? He squinted ahead of them. Just some trees? The path? Maybe she was super focused on where she was going! He could understand that. He'd hovered into lots of things in his house because he wasn't paying attention. Ethiriel was being very smart!

"Henry is a nice name!" He mused. "... I don't know what a nurse is, though... Or a hospital. Is it like a professor?"

Ethiriel offered a nod, a pleasant smile present on her features. She couldn't help but laugh at Laurel's excitement, tilting her head towards him but not quite hitting the mark with her eyes. "We have met, but briefly. Henry and I were at a grocery store when he stumbled upon us. He was quite inquisitive."

"He is quite nice," she said, though Laurel spoke of names and not Henry as a person. Surprised, Ethiriel's brows rose. "A hospital is where individuals -- nurses and doctors -- take care of sick or injured people. Henry is a nurse, just below the role of doctor, while doctors are able to perform acts to actually save lives. Nurses save them, too. They are kind and will help you." It was then that she straightened her posture and focused on following Nedhudir.

Making a sound of thought, Ethiriel continued, "I do not believe they are the same. Professors teach and enlighten. Nurses treat and heal. Everybody has their own set of skills and teachings that help them with their desired workplace."

Inquisitive? Laurel wasn't sure what that meant. Did that mean his dad was happy to meet them? The cheetah opened his mouth to ask, but found himself quickly distracted.

"Oh, okay!" He replied, tapping his chin. "So... Like, if I ever caught a cold, I would go to a hospital? Would I see Henry there?"

Again, he found himself perplexed with another word. Enlighten. He felt like he'd heard Oliver say it before, but he wasn't quite sure when or what it meant. He sighed and folded his arms.

"Is there a place I can go to learn more words?" He grumbled, seemingly entirely fed up with himself. "I mean, because... Sometimes I get a lot of what people say, but most of the time I don't? I feel kinda dumb."

With a gentle giggle, Ethiriel shook her head with a smile. "That would have to be quite a terrible cold for you to go to the hospital!" She then passed a glance towards Laurel, though it didn't quite hit the mark as she stared just past him. "They help mend broken bones and terrible illnesses. Some even alter your appearance if that is what you want.

"I do suppose you would see Henry if you went to the right one. He gets transferred to different locations from time to time."

The Sigel perked at Laurel's sudden change in disposition, eyes widening. Despite her knit brow, Ethiriel's smile remained as she reassured him. "There is such a place. There is no need to put yourself down! You are young and learning -- none of us were born with the same amount of knowledge..." Fumbling, she awkwardly reached out to rest a hand on Laurel's shoulder in comfort, taking only a moment to find him. "Your guardian is a professor, he should be able to find you a library -- or even teach you, himself."

Laurel's head subconsciously leaned to line with Eth's gaze as the cheetah was very, very focused on her. However, in the back of his mind, he couldn't help but appreciate the shade of green her eyes were. In fact, it made him wonder if she knew another green Raevan he'd met. How funny would that be?

His attention snapped back to the conversation when he found her hand on his shoulder. Smiling, he raised his hand and placed it over hers, and gently purred.

"A library? I... Think I've heard of that before." He muttered, his brows flexing. Once again, he couldn't exactly remember where and resigned. He'd have to start paying more attention to what people said. "Mm, but my dad already teaches people at a school. I don't want to make him more busy... Are there other people who can help me?"

The smile gracing Ethiriel's lips met her eyes as they softly closed at the feeling of Laurel's hand on hers. She always appreciated little tokens of affection -- if she couldn't see it, she wanted to feel it. This pleased her, letting out a soft hum.

Returning her gaze to before them, the Sigel paused when Nedhudir stopped to relieve himself. "If your guardian is a teacher -- professor -- then I am sure he has mentioned libraries to you at least once. I have never personally been to a school, but from what I have come to understand, libraries are expected on campus." Ethiriel's voice was soft and assuring as she tried to lift up Laurel's own. At his second point, the Raevan could easily understand that sentiment. Several times in her life, she had wanted to not bother those around her. "Perhaps that is a question for Oliver? I am sure he would know of someone who can teach you. I would offer, but... unfortunately, I am not a dictionary." A laugh decorated her statement. She didn't know how to teach at all.

Well, no. Oliver hadn't mentioned libraries to Laurel before. He'd taken Laurel to a bookstore, but hadn't had the time to take him to a library. In fact, coming to the park like this was the first time he'd gone somewhere completely new, on his own. There hadn't been an explanation of what it would be like where they were going, just what they were doing and how they'd get there, so Laurel really didn't know what to tell Ethiriel. He couldn't say that he'd been born months ago and then say he hadn't been outside of a small bubble of places, right? That felt like a weird thing to do.

But, on the same token, it felt even worse to deny it. He really hadn't been anywhere but his house, with his family, Yuri's house, and here. His world was much smaller than Ethiriel's was and the more he tried to smile and understand, the more it made him feel insecure. He bit his lip and breathed.

"N-no, actually, my dad hasn't mentioned libraries yet." He sighed, making an awkward clicking sound with his tongue. "Or campus, or hospital, or... Anything? ... We've kinda been in the house a lot, talking to family, and then he started working and I stayed behind."

He paused, mentally recoiling in shame, and continued.

"My family comes over sometimes and I go out with them." He explained. "I guess I should ask dad more questions..." His brow furrowed and a very tired expression cascaded over his features. "And what's a dictionary?"
